Dashboard gives a clear overview

Pros

I love using it and it's very user-friendly. The dashboard gives a clear overview of income, expenses and cash flow which makes it simple to stay on top of my financial health.

Cons

some features are only available if I upgrade to a higher-priced plan.

Rising costs

Pros

Back around 2018 and earlier, this was actually solid accounting software at a fair price. At that point, it still felt like good value for the money.

Cons

Prices keep going up yet the software has become very unstable and full of bugs and ongoing issues. The latest interface released on 10/01/2025 is awful and incredibly glitchy. At this stage, it's not accounting software I can recommend or even continue using. Support seems to know less about the product than the people using it and open cases rarely get any follow-up. I still have unresolved cases from five years ago that I'm chasing. The new invoice layout is slow, awkward and adds far too many extra clicks. Something that used to take one minute now takes at least five. On top of that, nearly everything now opens in pop-up windows and side panels that shove the working area off to the side so you can barely see your data. The number of clicks needed has gone up by at least five times. Financial reporting still lets you switch back to the legacy version for now but the new reporting and bank feed are difficult to read and the report formatting changed enough that it no longer works with existing templates. Overall, getting anything done in QBO now takes about five times longer than it did with the previous interface.

Accounting and payroll in one system

Pros

Having accounting and payroll built into one platform is a huge plus. The software is user-friendly and there are plenty of customization options that let you adjust the settings to match your preferences.

Cons

Support is where it falls short. Whenever I need to contact customer service, it usually takes over an hour for the issue to be resolved or even escalated. It would be much better if Intuit brought in and kept more experienced support staff.

simpler compared to other tools

Pros

It feels fairly simple to use especially compared with other accounting tools. On top of that, the pricing is quite reasonable for what it offers.

Cons

bank statement and credit card downloads don't always work reliably which gets frustrating. Sometimes they start working again after I've already made manual adjustments to reconcile the accounts and that can end up creating duplicate entries.

Can log in anywhere

Pros

Being able to log in from anywhere with an internet connection is a big plus. It's very convenient and after getting used to the differences from the Desktop version, it becomes fairly user friendly. The reporting also seems to be improving which has been nice to see.

Cons

Customer support needs work since it's almost never handled by someone based in the US. On the positive side someone usually does follow up with me within 12 hours which is helpful. I also don't think the value fully matches what you pay especially since the cost has gone up quite a bit over the past couple of years. On top of that, I run into a fair number of bugs and errors while using it. I also have to clear the cache pretty often, otherwise the system tends to run into glitches and other issues.

Invoice creation saves time

Pros

Keeping my finances organized has been much simpler with this and being able to share documents with my bookkeeper without any hassle is really helpful. It also takes care of creating invoices which saves time.

Cons

Using it doesn't feel user-friendly and the system can be hard to navigate. Because of how difficult it is for someone to make full use of all the features, I was actually encouraged to hire a bookkeeper.

Organized finances and reporting

Pros

It really helps me stay organized and keep up with my financials, along with reporting and other administrative work.

Cons

I do wish it were a bit more user-friendly especially when setting up the account for the first time since that would make the workflow flow better.

Receipt scanning is a mess

Pros

The bank transaction sync is about the only part that works decently.

Cons

Bank syncing is fine but that benefit disappears because the receipt scanning is incredibly poor. I'm dealing with thousands of bank transactions and thousands of receipts yet the system creates very few useful matches between them. The receipt scanning and automatic review are shockingly inaccurate. Around 9 out of 10 receipts I scan or even email directly to the account address they provide, are not categorized or labeled properly. I still have to manually correct the amount, date and category even for repeat vendors and recurring purchases. The AI feels very underdeveloped.

Price is hard to beat

Pros

Running a small business with this has been really simple. It's extremely easy to use and the price is hard to beat for a small business owner.

Cons

I'd like to see a better connection with Stripe since I use it for a lot of my billing. It would also help if there were an option to put customers on subscriptions for IT billing.

Provides real-time insights

Pros

It has been a very efficient tool for our small business. It gives us real-time data and reports that help guide our decision-making, while also letting us track progress and goals as they happen.

Cons

Scheduling invoices ahead of time would be nice. Right now, that process feels pretty complex and a bit confusing.

worthwhile option for me

Pros

QuickBooks Online has been a really worthwhile option for me especially when it comes to value for money. It's simple to use, invoicing is very convenient and the financial reporting tools are genuinely helpful. Since it's cloud-based, I can access everything whenever I need it and it saves me a lot of time overall.

Cons

bugs pop up from time to time and that can be frustrating. Customer support also hasn't been the best and scammer-related incidents seem to happen more often than they should.

Diverse set of operational features

Pros

It goes into a lot of detail, handles a wide range of business needs and includes plenty of useful operational features.

Cons

Getting everything set up and learning how to use it can be pretty complicated. It also feels like too much for a small business and the workflow isn't as user-friendly as it should be.

stellar support

Pros

The invoicing tools are simple to use, customer service responds quickly and the reporting options are really good. The pricing is fairly average too which feels reasonable for what it offers.

Cons

Every now and then, it runs into some major issues and getting around the system wasn't very user-friendly without some help. Thankfully, customer support was able to guide me through that.

Convenient finance tracking

Pros

Keeping finances on track feels much more easier with this software. The platform is very user-friendly and doesn't come across as intimidating even for someone without an accounting background. Everything is laid out in a clear organized way, whether it's tracking income and expenses or reconciling accounts.

Cons

The monthly subscription price can seem expensive especially for small businesses or startups that won't use all of the advanced tools. There's also a bit of a learning curve. Even though the system is user-friendly overall, features like advanced reporting and payroll can still be difficult to work through without added training or support.

Incredible fund accounting feature

Pros

Having fund accounting features that separate restricted donations and grants makes this stand out especially for nonprofit work. The automated categorization cuts down the time normally spent entering transactions by hand and the customizable reports make it much easier to show program results clearly to funders and board members.

Cons

At times, the bank connection sync runs into issues which can slow down the reconciliation process. The interface also feels more geared toward businesses so there's a bit of a learning curve when adapting it to nonprofit terminology and reporting needs.

Lovely features

Pros

It comes with really useful features for managing freelance and contract workers. I also appreciate the way everything is organized, along with the tracking tools for monitoring money coming in and going out.

Cons

the pricing can start to feel expensive as your team gets bigger especially for small businesses that are trying to grow while still keeping expenses under control.

Offers a lot of functionality

Pros

Its simple to use once you get going and it handles accounting and payment processing really well. It also covers payroll and invoicing so there's a lot you can do with it without spending too much.

Cons

It’s a bit complicated at the beginning when you're trying to understand everything but once you get familiar with the details, it becomes much more manageable.

the right fit for me

Pros

Starting out as a first-time business owner, this turned out to be exactly the right fit. I didn't have much experience at the beginning and it really helped me handle invoices and keep track of expenses without feeling overwhelmed.

Cons

Overall, I was happy with it but if I had to point out the part I liked least, it would be the withdrawal limits that come with being a new user.

helpful year-end reports

Pros

Running my business with this has been a big win. I can keep tabs on all of my bank accounts across different banks, along with my credit cards and mileage, all in one place. The system is simple to work with and the mileage tracker starts automatically when I begin driving. Creating invoices is quick and the year-end reports are really helpful since I can pass them along to my accountant for tax filing.

Cons

Every now and then, the mileage tracker misses the mark and occasionally my bank accounts disconnect. Reconnecting them usually isn't a huge problem but there are times when it becomes frustrating. I'd still like to understand what causes the mileage tracking issues although it does seem to have improved lately compared with a few months ago.

Makes collaboration easy

Pros

Right away, it stands out for how broadly it connects with other SaaS tools. Almost every bookkeeper and accountant already knows how to work in QBO which makes collaboration much easier. The platform is very comprehensive and includes pretty much every feature you'd expect from accounting software. Its reporting capabilities are especially strong, making it easier to pull financial data and turn it into useful insights for better business decisions. On top of that, it includes invoicing, payroll and even lending options which adds even more value. The newer AI features have also been a solid addition.

Cons

That said, it is expensive and can be quite complex. Most business owners will likely need a professional bookkeeper or CPA to really use it effectively.
