Powerful platform for growing teams

Pros

As someone managing payments across countries, I really appreciate their Global First architecture and the shift toward agentic AI, their touchless multi-entity management has been a real lifesaver. For mid-to-large companies it feels like a powerhouse although I and other users sometimes wrestle with a fairly steep initial setup and a noticeable learning curve.

Cons

I often grumble about what feels like an implementation tax and the maze of complex pricing with those small drip fees, it can hit like a financial sledgehammer and support occasionally throws up frustrating speed bumps.

Great for integrations and payments

Pros

What I really like is that it connects with so many other tools and platforms, giving plenty of integration options. I am also pleased that it supports handling international payouts, whether via ACH or alternate payment methods. Another big plus for me is the built-in approval workflow, it's easy to use but still efficient which makes routing approvals up the chain easy and reliable.

Cons

Getting started can be a bit of a challenge because the interface takes time to learn and there are a lot of settings and features to get comfortable with. It took me some effort to feel confident navigating the site and its capabilities.

Confusing reporting and payments

Pros

For our team, we find it a great centralized tool that connects reasonably well with our banking and accounting platforms, helping us manage accounts payable and handle bill payments efficiently.

Cons

I find the bill reporting and payment schedule within the system confusing and the payment flow isn't as dependable as some competing solutions, plus I feel there are numerous hoops to jump through to demonstrate compliance.

Modernized payables with room to grow

Pros

As a $4.5B credit union that migrated from Prologue, where everything was handled manually, invoices arrived by email and staff had to type them in, I can say Tipalti has moved us into a much more modern workflow and given us improved control over compliance. Built-in OFAC screening right in the payment flow is a huge advantage for a financial institution like ours and gives us stronger oversight than we had before. The standout benefit though, has been the consistent support from Customer Success Manager and Customer Support Engineer. The moment they took over our account the difference was clear. Plus they alwats stays proactive, always pushing for improvements and making sure we're included in pilots and tests for new features like AI-generated reporting. They even connects us with Tipalti's engineers so we can explain what a large credit union needs which has helped the product team better grasp our compliance and accounting realities. That collaboration has unlocked possibilities for future enhancements that would make the platform more practical for larger organizations. Meanwhile, they are the best after we go-live, handling every ticket, following up reliably and not letting issues drop even when the answer is simply the platform doesn't do that. She keeps cases moving until they're resolved or escalated properly and that dependability matters when you're running a platform at our scale.

Cons

Implementation ranks among the hardest system projects I have overseen. We were told it would take six months yet it stretched to nearly a year and that only happened because my team drove every milestone, requested weekly meetings and pushed aggressively. The group assigned to our rollout felt relatively new and lacked the deep product knowledge we needed for a $4.5B institution. We also had to migrate 2,818 vendors from manual email entry in Prologue into Tipalti, a process we ultimately had to handle ourselves. I spent many late nights combing through manuals and testing imports because the hands-on guidance we expected didn't materialize. After going live we ran into several functional gaps that required workarounds. there's no native review stage for AP to validate coding and GL accuracy before invoices go to approvers which is how our process must work. The expense module isn't flexible enough for an organization with roaming staff, we have over 300 employees who rotate locations yet the system only allows one designated approver per person, if that approver is unavailable the only workaround is uploading an entire employee sheet which is clunky. On the AMEX side our policy mandates post-purchase managerial review and Tipalti doesn't support that so we export transactions to Excel, attach them to our legacy approval form and route them through DocuSign. It functions but it's entirely manual. Reporting is limited and there are no AP leadership dashboards so we cannot quickly view total volumes, invoice aging or bottlenecks without exporting data. We still manually import Tipalti transactions into Prologue daily to keep our ledger in sync and branded check printing isn't available which confuses vendors and members who expect our name on checks. Altogether, these limitations make the product feel more suited to small or mid-sized businesses than to a large, regulated credit union with detailed control needs.

Easy and reliable for growing teams

Pros

This software is user-friendly and very dependable and I feel it might be pricey for a small or start-up business yet it suits a mid-sized company that manages a large number of suppliers.

Cons

I have found it to be fairly expensive for smaller businesses and the process of integrating it with an ERP system can be quite complex, posing a real hurdle if you lack technical resources.

Intuitive and getting better

Pros

Overall I find the platform very user-friendly and familiar to use. For our traveling staff, things like snapping receipts on mobile have been a huge help and the tight integrations with tools such as Sage Intacct and Amex have really streamlined our processes. I also appreciate that Tipalti seems responsive to customer needs, the recent change enabling more precise coding underlines their commitment to continual improvement and to delivering the automation we've been after.

Cons

My main gripe at the moment is that the corporate card approval workflow is limited. Right now card charges route straight to finance and skip the frontline managers who normally need to sign off and that step matters a lot for how we operate. Fortunately, Tipalti is already working on a more powerful approval flow that should roll out soon. It's comforting to know a fix is underway and that the company is acting on user feedback.

never run into any problem

Pros

One of the things I really value about Tipalti is how it brings our payment workflows into one place and makes them so much simpler particularly when we're dealing with multiple currencies and cross-border transfers. My company handles commissions in currencies like USD and Euros so having a system that automates currency conversions and the actual payout process has been a huge relief for me and my team. Back when we were processing payments through Wells Fargo it felt clunky and slow but since switching to Tipalti we process payments far more efficiently. The ability to import invoices in bulk and to batch payments has saved us an enormous amount of time and being confident that a payment will be debited from the correct currency account has removed a lot of the guesswork and reduced potential errors. Another thing that stands out is the quality of communication and support from the Tipalti staff. Their support crew were extremely responsive and helpful during setup and implementation. They walked me through configuration steps, troubleshooting and even tricky cases like specific currency exchange scenarios. On top of all that, the platform is user-friendly enough that once we've completed setup, my team can run payments without running into major problems.

Cons

I do find the OCR scanning takes longer than I expected and it doesn't support scanning multiple invoices packed into a single PDF file. I also run into minor quirks with notification settings that can be annoying.

Excellent ap automation platform

Pros

Tipalti has effectively centralized and automated our accounts payable workflows. The NetSuite integration works brilliantly, offering real-time synchronization and precise GL posting. Its automated approval flows and OCR invoice capture have been transformative, cutting down hours and making management across multiple entities much simpler. Customer support has been outstanding and I feel the platform is clearly designed to scale with our future growth.

Cons

Getting custom approval workflows and vendor onboarding up and running demanded a pretty steep learning curve and I ended up doing a lot of back-and-forth to get things configured. Still, the platform's flexibility combined with an attentive support team helped me navigate those challenges and get everything under control.

Modern and easy to use

Pros

Its interface is really modern and user-friendly which has reduced the team's learning curve. The materials and help available to us have been outstanding and I genuinely appreciate having a dedicated technical support rep.

Cons

We've run into occasional bugs in the system that have slowed down our day-to-day operations. It also tends to lag a bit around month-end which is frustrating because that's exactly when we need the platform to be performing at its best.

Worth every penny

Pros

Having gone through some terrible rollouts before, Tipalti's white-glove approach felt like a complete relief. Our implementation lead guided our team step by step and always ensured every one of our questions got answered. Honestly this was the simplest implementation we've ever experienced and it truly justified the cost.

Cons

The user interface feels a bit dated to me. I understand they have an extensive roadmap planned yet I still find some of the automation features to be somewhat awkward and clumsy in practice.

Super smooth and dependable

Pros

The platform is really user-friendly to use and updates like the redesigned invoice and payment pages have made getting approvals and processing payments much more easy and efficient. I love that so much is centralized, vendor onboarding, invoice tracking and related tasks are all in one place which has cut down on manual steps and made daily workflows simpler to manage. The NetSuite connection is particularly helpful, it integrates smoothly with our existing systems so managing POs and approvals across different business units feels seamless. Whenever we've had questions or needed assistance, the Tipalti team has responded quickly and even helped troubleshoot NetSuite-specific matters. It's also been encouraging to see them act on customer feedback, for example, they updated the payment screen after listening to user suggestions. That responsiveness makes it clear they care about improving the product for real users and I have found that refreshing. There have been measurable time savings and fewer errors since adopting it which has made the investment worthwhile for our team. In short, the solution has been reliable and has genuinely improved the efficiency and value of our workflow processes.

Cons

An area I'd like to see improved is the approval delegate functionality. When a colleague takes time off I end up having to manually reassign their approval tasks and that creates unnecessary administrative overhead. It would be far more convenient if users could nominate their own delegates in advance or if admins had more flexible reassignment controls. These are relatively small improvements but I am always asking whether my requests are queued or already part of their development roadmap. So far I regularly check for updates and get feedback from the team about whether these items are in a pipeline of improvements.

Modern features but pricey

Pros

I really like the app's sleek, modern interface, it feels polished and simple to use. I also found the vendor self-service features handy. suppliers can register bank details and upload invoices themselves. The system's image/OCR pulls data from imported invoices to pre-fill AP forms and I appreciated that approval workflows can be customized to our needs.

Cons

What bothered me was the pricing, it simply wasn't competitive with the other payment platforms we were evaluating and when it came to foreign currency transfers their fees were shockingly high, roughly four to five times what a rival charged. On top of that, the invoice image capture process isn't immediate, it took about a day to get results back. We also had to pre-fund a separate account to cover outgoing payments which added operational overhead. Functionality-wise, Tipalti duplicated some of what our ERP, Acumatica, already does and we couldn't get Tipalti to import the coded AP forms from Acumatica the way we needed. Finally, I found it wasn't easy to open up AP submission as a self-service option for a large number of non-accounting department users without adding more complexity.

makes my job stress free

Pros

The platform is really easy to get around and I can pull down the reports I need without trouble. Each year when we distribute 1099s to our U.S. video owner licensees and 1042s to our international video owner licensees, I am able to efficiently compile the information required both to send to our licensees and to file the necessary returns with the IRS for tax reporting.

Cons

There isn't anything about Tipalti that I can point to as a major dislike. If I had to suggest one area for improvement, it would be faster response and resolution times from customer support so open tickets we've raised get closed out more quickly.

Love the vendor self-service

Pros

My vendors now handle their own payment information through Tipalti which lowers the chance of fraud for me and lets my team concentrate on higher-value responsibilities instead of admin tasks. I have also found Tipalti to be especially reliable and efficient when handling cross-border or international payments.

Cons

I have noticed that since we partnered with Tipalti they keep rolling out new, related offerings, for example the Tipalti Card, as they continue to innovate. Unfortunately, we haven't had an opportunity to take advantage of any of those newer products so far.

Pros

Tipalti has been a key part of multiple improvements we've made to our accounting. We've rolled out bill approval workflows that help keep us compliant and make everyone responsible for staying within their budgets. Because of Tipalti, we've been able to simplify and speed up our month-end close. And the Tipalti cards have given our team the convenience of company cards while making tracking and reconciliation much faster.

Fast invoice processing overall

Pros

I have noticed the invoice upload and scanning are extremely quick. Usually my invoices are prepped for processing shortly after I submit them for scanning.

Cons

Whenever I update a payee's name, the platform insists that the payee uploads their passport or company registration before any billing details can be changed. That causes a lot of pushback, many payees tell me they're uneasy sharing such sensitive documents and aren't clear on why it's necessary. On top of that, the session times out way too quickly when I am idle and kicks me back to the login screen which interrupts my workflow and is frustrating.

Too slow and not robust

Pros

From my perspective as a purchase requisitioner, the system is easy to use and easy for raising and tracking purchase requests so I find it user-friendly for that role.

Cons

Switching back and forth between the procurement module and the bills section is painfully slow in my experience which makes the whole platform feel less powerful than it should be. There's no alert sent to the purchase order requester or the approvers when an invoice arrives and is ready to be receipted so I often don't even know an invoice is there. It also lacks any OCR capability to extract a PO number from an invoice, meaning if the PO number isn't present it won't detect that automatically or send the supplier a notification asking them to add it. The payment SLA is too long. invoices sit way too long before funds are released and we need a much faster turnaround. The Sage integration doesn't meet expectations either, it doesn't reliably push supplier bank detail updates into Sage and remittances aren't sent to suppliers from the system. I have also noticed that the updated bills view frequently fails to load the actual invoice image which is frustrating when I am trying to verify paperwork. Finally, there's no clear audit trail showing approvals for a payment run so I have to open the procurement section which, as I said, is slow and time-consuming, to confirm the approval workflow was followed correctly.

Pros

Tipalti hooks up with Sage Intacct which really cuts down on duplicate data entry and boosts efficiency. The interface is clean and the filtering options make it simple to pull up the exact information I need and their customer support team is reachable and helpful for a range of issues.

Cons

As an appliance distributor we deal with a high volume of returns, whether it's vendor-damaged items, product recalls or customers changing their minds and I have found the credit memo functionality to be problematic. We have numerous suppliers paid through automatic withdrawals but the system doesn't handle credit memos for those vendors which creates gaps. Processing payments has been slower than I'd like while we're experimenting with workflows that fit our business and more often than not I have had to fall back to writing checks or initiating manual ACH transfers through our bank to speed things up.

Great for global ap

Pros

For our company, Tipalti acts as a global vendor payment platform, supporting multiple currencies and handling purchase orders. It makes vendor portals much easier so suppliers can submit invoices, manage bills and follow payment status. I have also seen it integrate smoothly with NetSuite and other ERPs. Overall we consider Tipalti a scalable AP solution for mid-sized companies and larger and the approvals workflow is excellent.

Cons

Great for modern remote teams

Pros

One thing I like is that it is built for remote teams as it fits the way we work today.

Cons

My main issue is how the payment methods linked to my account are managed as those are what the tool uses to pay invoices.

Costly platform with outdated design

Pros

When I pay overseas contractors, this payment platform lets me send funds to international clients reliably.

Cons

The UI feels outdated and it's been a challenge for me to pull auditable data from the system. On top of that, fees are very high and there is a 12 month contract that silently auto renews without warning.

Offers quick support and smooth invoicing

Pros

What I like is that invoices are automatically captured and whenever I run into problems Tipalti's support team responds quickly to help resolve them.

Cons

Lately I have found that whenever we record manual payments, I cannot see any additional banking information which is frustrating when I need to verify transaction details.

Greatly improved our invoice workflow

Pros

I have been using Tipalti for about six months and it's completely changed how we handle invoice approvals and communicate with internal teams. Another thing I really like is the bill audit trail as it stops people from blaming AP for late payments. We used to struggle to pay vendors on time and were starting to get a bad reputation. The main problem was getting managers to approve and code invoices quickly. Our old system did not have a good approval process so we had to email PDFs every day. Managers had to download each invoice, sign it, save it and email it back as it was slow and easy to lose track of invoices. Since switching to it, everything is in one place. Approvers can review and code invoices with a single login so nothing gets lost. Plus the platform brought the transparency we needed and fixed most of our invoice problems. We are now paying vendors on time and improving our relationships with them.

Cons

The rollout was difficult and took almost a year. A big reason for the delay was turnover in our IT team. So defining what we needed and building the CSV integration took about six months, even though the guides said it would take around six weeks. Now looking back, I think a better implementation partner would have made things faster. We also had a problem with vendors who want payments sent to PO boxes as that stopped us from fully onboarding some suppliers which has been frustrating.

Super smooth ap automation

Pros

It is really user-friendly and has sped up how I close the accounts payable module making that month end process much faster. Integration with NetSuite was also easy and painless. The implementation team has been very helpful and quick to respond whenever I had questions and overall it has simplified my vendor processes.

Cons

Honestly I have nothing but good things to say about it. Overall it is the best platform I have used for this kind of work.

Makes approvals and payments effortless

Pros

We notice that it makes it simple for our team to track approvals and send reminders without hassle. From one screen I can quickly see which invoices still require approval and the due dates attached to each. It also helps us control cash flow because invoices can be scheduled to be paid exactly on their due date.

Cons

I use it to reimburse employee expenses but the receipt handling is limited and could be better. It would also help if the expense tool supported more document types like bank or credit card statements so the system could automatically create detailed expense entries.

Great support and flexibility

Pros

Tipalti support team is outstanding, the product offers real flexibility and the available features adequately serve our company's needs well.

Cons

That said I am disappointed by the weak reporting features. I'd also like the option to make payments for high net worth individuals and with current interest rates, any money held in the account should earn interest over time.

Very responsive support overall

Pros

I love that the customer support is really quick to respond whenever I reach out.

Cons

Their support team did not seem to fully understand how the NetNow program works especially when I asked about the program itself or ran into payment issues.

Excellent support and easy workflow

Pros

After working with several payment providers, what always stands out about Tipalti is how committed and attentive they are to customer support. I get quick replies from their support team and when issues need more attention, my account manager and even the CEO on rare occasions has stepped in to help. I work in tech so I know issues can happen. But how fast they respond and fix things makes a huge difference especially compared to other vendors that feel distant and do not really care about solving problems. I mean I truly feel they care about our business and that keeps me loyal. Once you get used to their terms and formats, the platform becomes fairly easy to use unlike some systems that never feel clear. I have been using it almost every day for five years so I am very comfortable with it.

Cons

I'd like to add some more advanced payout rules into our disbursement workflow but right now that's not supported. Ideally it would handle both incoming payments and outgoing payouts so I wouldn't have to rely on a second PSP for that functionality though perhaps that capability will arrive someday.

Love how much time it saves

Pros

Tipalti handles a big part of our buying and payment process automatically. Our accounts payable team used to spend hours organizing invoices and chasing approvals. Now I can control spending with clear approval steps and invoices are processed faster so suppliers get paid sooner. The Supplier Hub also helps reduce vendor questions since they can easily check their bill and payment status. From my experience setup went smoothly and customer support has been excellent.

Cons

Since procurement and accounts payable are separate modules, they do not always feel connected as you have to manage them separately. I'd also like a simpler way to reconcile Tipalti wallets. Also it would be really helpful if it used its ERP connections to offer a direct bank feed making bank reconciliations smoother and easier.

Huge time saver for invoices

Pros

The time I save on entering invoices is huge. Once the AI learns how I code them, I just need to review and submit. I mean it is super simple!

Cons

If I rely on lots of fine-tuned customizations, altering any of them can cause it to cause sync problems. In my experience those glitches are normally simple to spot, work around or get support to resolve and re-establish the sync.

Great workflow and compliance tools

Pros

Its bill process is very clear and well organized. The Supplier Hub gives a detailed view of each vendor and I can customize things like vendor profiles, user access and reports. There are also useful compliance features.

Cons

There is a delay between when I send funds and when it actually pays vendors which is frustrating. Also I cannot pay part of a bill in one batch which limits flexibility.
