quick design help

Pros

This software works really well as a fast way to edit designs, make posters and put together marketing materials even if you don't have much experience with professional graphic software. It's pretty simple to use and there are plenty of free templates available if you want to get started quickly.

Cons

When it comes to basic projects like adding text over a background and using a few decorative elements, it does the job perfectly. That said, it still doesn't feel like a true replacement for programs such as Photoshop or Illustrator.

Great software!!

Pros

Canva has been a huge help for putting together flyers, newsletters and event graphics without needing to bring in a professional designer. The prebuilt templates are especially useful and already suited for nonprofit events and fundraising campaigns.

Cons

Few of the more polished templates are locked behind the paid plan though the free version still offers plenty of options to work with.

Recommended from my side

Pros

An excellent tool for putting together educational materials!! It makes designing presentations, worksheets and infographics feel simple and the final result still looks polished and professional.

Cons

A downside is that some features and premium graphics sit behind a paywall which can be restrictive for students or educators working with a tight budget.

simple setup

Pros

Getting started with it takes hardly any time which is ideal if you don't want to spend forever figuring out complicated design tools. It also comes with a huge range of templates, whether you're creating images, videos or posts for social media.

Cons

Many of the best-looking templates are only available in the PRO version so the free plan can feel a little limiting after a while.

loved it!!

Pros

The tool really feels like the model other design platforms took inspiration from which says a lot about how innovative and approachable it is for people who are not design experts. The template library is a big plus, with plenty of options for different uses and channels in the paid plan. Even the free version gives you access to a broad selection although it can take a while to dig through them since free and paid templates are not separated. The range of graphics available is also impressive and works well across different kinds of projects. The AI image generator is a fun addition even if it can feel a bit random at times which is pretty common with tools like that. I also appreciate being able to share slides straight from the platform and monitor views and engagement. Also, the pricing is simple and still affordable which I hope stays the case for individuals, hobbyists and small businesses rather than only enterprise users. The brand kit features are another highlight especially the flexibility to apply brand colours, fonts and themes and then save designs as reusable templates within Canva.

Cons

Hard to criticize this tool unless you are a professional graphic designer who needs a much higher level of precision and creative control because in that case it may not be the right fit. The free plan is also more limited in terms of features. Another weak spot is video exporting, where the quality can sometimes be inconsistent and I have seen exports distort the original video from Riverside.

a friendly tool

Pros

Right away, it feels very user-friendly which makes it simple to collaborate with clients even when they have no design background at all.

Cons

There are still a few limits when it comes to design flexibility but there are workarounds because the platform includes so many features and app integrations.

Speeds up content creation

Pros

Canva makes it really simple to put together marketing brochures, internal communication pieces and social media posts without needing a full-time designer. The ready-made templates are a huge help because you can build from them instead of spending hours starting from scratch or reinventing everything.

Cons

It does feel a little limiting when you need highly detailed designs that are very specific to a brand.

a nuanced tool

Pros

Keeping our hiring ads fresh matters a lot for our organization and it has been really helpful for that. It lets us switch up our flyers creatively and share them with the right audiences quickly and effectively which has made our recruiting materials much more engaging.

Cons

There is a slight learning curve with it at first but I wouldn't really count that as a major downside since it's still very simple to pick up and learn.

it works great

Pros

One of the things I enjoy most about it is being able to share my designs directly to social media. It connects really well with those platforms and the whole process is very simple to handle.

Cons

Compared with other design software, it does feel somewhat limited in certain areas, like layering elements or customizing fonts and that can narrow down the kind of results you're able to achieve.

helpful for quick designs

Pros

Putting together flyers, posters, web pages and other creative pieces takes a lot less time and effort with it. The interface is user-friendly and the pop-up tutorials make it simple to follow along. It guides you through each stage of the project step by step so the whole process feels fast and approachable for just about anyone.

Cons

If you compare it with similar tools especially programs in the Adobe suite, it is definitely more limited in what it can do. Anyone coming from more advanced design software will probably notice right away that the functionality and customization options feel pretty minimal. The platform also offers very few photo editing features which can be limiting for certain types of projects. It makes sense that Canva is not built as a photo editor but having at least a few more editing tools would make it much more useful.

fantastic templates for outreach

Pros

Canva makes it possible to create flyers social media graphics and training materials without needing strong professional design skills which has been a big help for us. The templates give us a strong starting point every time so we save a lot of time when promoting events and putting together outreach content.

Cons

Some of the more advanced design features are locked behind the paid version and collaboration can feel a bit dated when working on more complex page designs.

has amazing template library

Pros

Having design tools available online makes the whole process really convenient and it takes a lot of the hassle out of creating things. The paid subscription is also worth appreciating because it unlocks plenty of professional content and stock images that are useful in different designs. Also, it has been really helpful for editing videos, as well as making banners and GIFs.

Cons

I'd love quicker access to the layers panel. It's not a major issue at all though it does take a few extra clicks here and there before getting to the layers tab.
