Built for construction industry

Pros

What I appreciated most is that the software was clearly designed with the construction industry in mind. Since this kind of business can be incredibly complex when it comes to tracking jobs, handling invoices and pulling reports, I found it really helpful to use a system that actually supports those needs. In my experience the program did a very solid job of keeping all that information organized and maintaining the data across those areas reliably.

Cons

One limitation I noticed is that the program seems better suited for certain construction categories than for businesses like mine that manage a wider mix of project types. When I needed to work across different kinds of projects, it was harder than I expected. I also felt that labor integration within projects was somewhat restricted which made that part of the workflow less flexible for me.

Communication and process management win

Pros

Honestly I could go on for a while about what I like because this platform has made a huge difference in how I manage our projects. From bidding and pre-construction all the way through the build and even the warranty stage, I've seen CoConstruct bring a lot more structure and clarity to every step. It has taken a lot of the chaos out of process management for me and helped make sure no phase gets overlooked. In my experience selections have become more organized, the sales side has felt more organized and the communication tools have been the biggest standout by far. I've been able to keep a steady, detailed line of communication with my customers and for my business, that has been incredibly valuable.

Cons

The main drawback is that, like with most project management tools, not every feature lines up perfectly with the workflow I was already using. Instead of seeing that as a dealbreaker, I looked at it as a reason to step back and rethink whether some of my own processes could be improved. At this point, there are only a few parts of the software that don't fully match the way my company operates so it really hasn't been a major issue. The most difficult part has probably been the rollout with my suppliers and subcontractors especially in the beginning. That said it hasn't been anything overwhelming and I've actually found that most of my subs and suppliers respond well to the software and seem genuinely interested in getting more familiar with it.

Comprehensive construction management tool

Pros

It covers pretty much every part of our operation in one place. I use it to manage communication with subcontractors, suppliers and customers and it also helps me handle bidding, finances and invoicing without needing to jump between different systems. It keeps everything connected and makes the day-to-day side of running projects much more organized.

Cons

the platform can still be a little slow to respond at times especially when I am making updates to schedules or uploading and editing files. That part can be a bit frustrating when I am in the middle of work and need things to move faster. Still, I have personally seen improvement over the past year so it does seem like they are making progress.

Hard to trust...

Pros

Buildertrend seemed to offer the features I needed at a price point that felt appropriate for what was included. I felt like the product lineup matched what I was looking for without seeming overpriced so it came across as a solid value.

Cons

What really bothered me though, was my impression of the company's management. I found them to be unwilling to work fairly and at times their business practices came across as unethical which made the overall experience hard to trust.

useful map feature

Pros

What I really liked about it was the CRM side of it and I especially appreciated the map that showed me which projects our workers were assigned to. That feature gave me a much clearer view of where everyone was and helped me stay on top of job activity.

Cons

On the downside, I feel like the reporting tools could be improved especially when it comes to tracking sales, bids and pending projects. That part of the system didn't give me as much visibility or detail as I would have wanted.

Simple to check progress

Pros

It feels simple for both me as the builder and my clients when we need to check progress or make updates. I can get to all the main tools and project functions without digging around which saves me time during the day. Another thing I really appreciate is being able to update records right from my phone so while I'm on-site, I can keep everything current and share updates right away.

Cons

One issue I've run into sometimes is that downloading things to my phone can be a bit difficult. It doesn't happen constantly but when it does, it can be frustrating.

Convenient mobile version

Pros

Comes with a user-friendly mobile version that fits perfectly into my day-to-day work. Since I'm out in the field every single day, I end up using it at every stop and it has been incredibly convenient for keeping things moving while I'm on the go.

Cons

Since I'm still pretty new in my role, I honestly haven't come across any downsides yet that I can clearly point out.

Complete project visibility

Pros

Its a plus having the full project workflow kept in one place, from leads and purchase orders to job costing. I can also save filters and templates which helps me tailor the system to fit the way our team actually works. On top of that, I really love the customer-facing site because it gives homeowners a clear place to check everything related to their project and that has been incredibly valuable for us.

Cons

I do think the selections feature is a helpful option to have available but in my experience we rarely use it because it feels a bit too complicated to work with efficiently. From my side, it also doesn't present very well on the customer portal so it hasn't been as useful for us as the other parts of the platform.

beginner-friendly

Pros

Its quite userfriendly especially for someone like me in construction who never saw himself as particularly tech-savvy. On top of that, I've found it to be an incredibly capable tool for keeping both our team and our clients updated and connected so everything stays in one place instead of getting buried in scattered email threads.

Cons

There really isn't much to complain about. If I had to point out one thing, it would be that I wish the quick message feature allowed photo sharing.

does everything I need!!

Pros

it feels all-encompassing for managing my projects. I haven't really run into any process or piece of information that couldn't be worked into the system which makes it useful for keeping everything in one place.

Cons

There's honestly not much for me to complain about. At times, I do get a little annoyed by how many dialog boxes I have to click through to complete certain tasks but aside from that, I have very few issues with it.

Cut down on paperwork

Pros

What I really love about it is having everything kept in one place and being able to get to it anytime, from anywhere. It has cut down heavily on paperwork, reduced miscommunication and helped avoid a lot of the customer disagreements that used to come up more often. I feel like it keeps the whole process much more organized and consistent.

Cons

One thing I still wish for is a bit more personalization for my business. I'd like my customers to feel like they are interacting more directly with my brand, instead of seeing Buildertrend so prominently and associating the experience more with the software than with us.

Helpful initial support

Pros

The initial customer support was very helpful and I appreciated having that guidance when getting started. I've also noticed that the software platform keeps being updated and improved which makes me feel like the product is actively being worked on rather than left behind.

Cons

What has been frustrating for me is the lack of flexibility when it comes to customizing forms for New Zealand requirements. For example, I need POs to show GST exclusive pricing and that kind of local formatting hasn't been as simple to set up as I'd like.

Lead tracking that really helps

Pros

Before we started using it, our homeowner details were stored in paper folders and we managed demographic data through huge spreadsheets. Since switching over, I've been using the LEAD section to keep all of that information organized in one place which has made it much easier for me to provide funders with accurate details about the people we've served. On top of that, I'm also able to monitor job costs against estimates more effectively than we could before.

Cons

The reporting tools in the Lead section work well enough but the Job area feels much more limited when it comes to reporting options. We really need more flexibility there especially in the jobs section. I've also noticed that the estimate versus actual report doesn't let me combine change orders with the original estimate which makes that comparison less useful than it should be.

Simple to get the hang of

Pros

I found the software very simple to pick up and I can move through the platform without getting lost. From the start, I felt comfortable learning how everything works and the navigation has been very user-friendly for me.

Cons

What really sold me on it was the bill pay feature but in my experience, it ended up being a major waste of both time and money. Instead of making payments easier, every single transaction seemed to turn into a long, frustrating ordeal. Even something as basic as an ACH payment became a drawn-out process for me, with waiting periods stretching to nearly two weeks.

Powerful features and broad coverage

Pros

What I like most about it is how much functionality it packs into one platform. From my experience it covers a wide range of areas which makes it really useful for managing different parts of the job without constantly switching tools. I also find it very user friendly so even with all the features included, I can still move through the system without feeling overwhelmed.

Cons

Like any software, I've noticed there are a few functions that feel like they could work better if they were designed a little differently. In some cases, I would prefer an alternate workflow or a more user-friendly approach. That said these are relatively minor things compared to how much the platform offers overall.

Clients can access documentation

Pros

My clients can get to all the important documentation whenever they need it. They also really enjoy being able to follow what's going on in real time which keeps everyone more informed and involved throughout the project.

Cons

One thing I'm disappointed about is that the option to keep the schedule open in Gantt view while working in the platform is no longer available.

Keeps our team informed

Pros

It keeps our entire team informed on where every project stands. I've found that updates are much more visible, communication feels more aligned and everyone seems to stay aware of the current status without needing constant check-ins.

Packed with helpful features

Pros

I've found it packed with features that really help automate a lot of our day-to-day processes, keep everyone in the loop and make sure nothing slips through the cracks. From my experience it does a solid job of keeping communication organized and helping the whole team stay on the same page.

Cons

Because the platform includes so many tools and features, it's definitely taken us a while to get everyone fully trained. In my case, getting a crew of carpenters on board hasn't been the fastest process since not everyone is especially tech-savvy or excited about learning new software.

well-designed system

Pros

What stands out to me is how thoughtfully this program has been put together. It covers nearly everything I would have wanted if I were creating a custom-built system for my own needs so it feels very complete and practical to use.

Cons

One thing I still wish for is the ability to create a wider variety of reports since having more reporting options would make it even more useful for me.

Essential for my work

Pros

It helps me stay organized across multiple jobs at once. The client management tools, time clocks and to-do lists are very user-friendly so I can keep tabs on everything without feeling overwhelmed. On top of that, I'm required to maintain a daily report for all site activity and the fact that those reports can be customized makes that process much more useful for my workflow. I also get a lot of value from the subcontractor and vendor list, the bid proposal tools and the photo library for each project which has been excellent for keeping records in one place. Another feature I really like is the scheduling and reminder system because it helps me stay ahead of deadlines and moving parts. The platform includes a lot of strong functionality and I've noticed that the Buildertrend team actually pays attention to contractor feedback and sometimes builds those suggestions into the software which makes it feel like a must-have tool for the way I work.

Cons

my subcontractors and clients do not enjoy having to log into the program every single time they want to check a report or find information. Busy people usually just want details as quickly as possible and any extra login step becomes frustrating. I've found that getting people to sign into yet another account is a challenge in general and that is definitely true here as well. It seems more workable for owners since they usually have the time to log in and look around but contractors and subcontractors are already juggling enough and often do not want one more system to deal with.
