“Marketo Engage - best automation tool to date

“versatile tool with many bugs
Pros
It helps newcomers get their lead scoring strategies off the ground and actually generate measurable business outcomes. What impresses me most is the speedy email delivery , messages go out almost instantly without any noticeable lag. It links data to automation workflows in a very simple way, and I'm especially pleased with the reporting capabilities and subscription management because those tools make sharing files with external partners far less of a issue. The targeting precision ensures my campaigns reach the right people, while the event activity logs give me helpful visibility into user behavior. All in all, it feels like a flexible, all-in-one solution that manages many parts of lead management effectively and saves me time when prioritizing prospects.
Cons
marketing features are weak and the integrations are often unreliable or don't function as expected. I had to invest more time than I thought to get comfortable with the system and the learning curve turned out to be higher. To make matters worse, bugs keep appearing across different areas of the platform which has been frustrating and disruptive to our workflows.

“Great features but gets sluggish
Pros
I have been really impressed by the engagement programs and the lead scoring models , they've made a noticeable, almost dramatic, difference in the way I track and prioritize prospects across campaigns. The account-based marketing tools are flexible and our CRM hooked into the system without fuss. Adobe's support team responds promptly and the community forums often provide practical answers when I run into issues.
Cons
It slows down when I try to open certain modules which becomes really annoying during peak workloads and deadlines. I'm also let down that there isn't native SMS support , if I want to send texts I have to build custom integrations or workarounds to get messaging to function.

“great central hub and automation
Pros
Having all our marketing files in one central place is a huge help. The automation features are really impressive and the way the software works with other apps is fantastic.
Cons
I do wish the visibility into customer journeys within campaign flows were clearer , at times I lose track of which stage customers are in and it becomes hard to follow how they progress across different steps. To be honest, the campaign tracking could use much better clarity.

“Limitless options !!
Pros
the customization and personalization options are virtually limitless and I love how powerful the smart campaigns are, they're very effective at managing programs while keeping the data clean and organized.
Cons
Although the custom objects our industry requires function well, getting to that data continually forces me to dive into velocity scripting, it would be incredible if future updates offered a GUI-based way to run those scripts without all the manual coding, because that would save us a tremendous amount of time.

“Sophisticated targeting with an outdated look
Pros
I can build highly advanced filters to reach exactly who I'm aiming for in my campaigns, and the available logic settings are quite extensive when it comes to managing complicated recipient selection.
Cons
Honestly, the interface is really outdated and that makes using the tool more frustrating than it should be.

“Game changer for our team
Pros
It has completely changed how our B2B marketing group operates since we adopted it back in 2014. What I really like is that it hands us everything required to run marketing programs from beginning to end, whether we're a tiny team or part of a much larger organization. The program templates together with the Smart Campaigns have alignd our workflows tremendously and Smart Lists make it simple to zero in on exactly the audience we want. Attribution reporting is reliable too which makes it easier for me to demonstrate ROI. Compared with other tools I've tried, this solution includes the core features right out of the box, nurture campaigns, event registration and personalization options. You can add extra apps later if needed but to be honest the built-in capabilities already cover the majority of our needs.
Cons
The training materials for our field marketing team are good but the platform itself was hard to learn. It took us a while to get comfortable with even the basics and feel confident using it. A few features are lacking especially for managing events since that's not the main purpose of the platform. For instance, we can't prevent people outside our target audience from registering which is a feature usually only found on dedicated event platforms like Cvent.

“Smart targeting with clunky dashboard
Pros
I am grateful that it helps me pinpoint exactly where to connect with customers and produces valuable, actionable insights that actually matter.
Cons
I can not break down the dashboard analytics by segment. That makes it harder for me to get the specific insights I need.

“Simple and smart but restrictive
Pros
It makes my life easier and handles the bulk of what I require. What I appreciate most is its ability to monitor and store customer preferences, which allows me to create tailored messages that connect with people.
Cons
One downside I've run into is that the custom activities are very limited , you're capped at just ten, which quickly becomes a headache if I am trying to connect with outside platforms that depend on activity events. To unlock additional slots they push you into a far more expensive tier and in my view that higher cost is hard to justify when you look at what rival services include.

“fantastic framework
Pros
I find the tools and overall structure excellent. There are loads of features plus smart automation that links easily with our website and data warehouse.
Cons
To be honest, its not easy to use even if I am already familiar with comparable systems. At times some features seem rather inflexible , I have to perform tasks exactly the way the system expects, and that can be frustrating. I do understand that this strict approach probably supports more powerful functionality but it still requires a fair amount of acclimation. Additionally, the cost is fairly high, so I really think you need to be sure it's worth the investment before you buy.

“good for team connection
Pros
It is really useful for connecting with our clients especially when it comes to communication and collaborative creative work. It's done a great job of aligning our sales and marketing teams so we're all working toward the same goals and shared priorities.
Cons
the pricing tiers are a bit unclear and arranging a full demo ended up being more complicated than I anticipated.

“Simple to use and customize!
Pros
Ita simple to use and customize, and the platform's data insights and analytics really help me get a clearer picture of our business.
Cons
It did take me a while to learn everything because there are a lot of features packed in, so I needed time to get comfortable with how it all works.

“Versatile but sometimes slow
Pros
The interface is very engaging and I value how flexible this platform can be. We rely on it mainly to run large-scale email blasts, integrate with our Salesforce instance, organize and maintain our contact database and build landing pages to support our content marketing campaigns.
Cons
it slows down and the Salesforce synchronization can take ages. I wouldn't call it a deal-breaker most of the time but when we're under tight deadlines trying to submit something, that lag can really crank up my stress levels.

“solid platform
Pros
I've been using this for our B2B marketing automation and really like how simple it is to set up multiple drip campaigns and nurture sequences. The segmentation features perform well and the web personalization tools are reliable. Overall, it's a solid platform that covers everything we require.
Cons
It doesn't feel as easy as other marketing automation tools like HubSpot. I find some of their newer features especially web personalization, seem launched before they're fully tested or polished properly.

“Powerful email marketing tools
Pros
I'm very impressed by this platform's email marketing tools. The options for targeting specific groups of people are very detailed and the interface is enjoyable and easy to use. Creating personalized emails with dynamic content is much simpler than I thought it would be. I would definitely recommend this platform.
Cons
Setting up A/B tests has been pretty confusing for me and when I try to pull up older reports it's not a very simple process, using past analytics could definitely be simplified.

“best for marketing data!
Pros
Once I got the hang of how it operates, the logic behind every feature became crystal clear. It's a great fit for marketing ops , we rely on it daily to normalize disparate data, track campaign and user activities, score leads and manage all of our lifecycle stages effectively.
Cons
I am not a big fan of how engagement streams handle email nurture campaigns. We migrated from Eloqua and to be honest I much preferred their visual campaign canvas , it offered far greater flexibility than these engagement streams. For simple drip sequences the streams are passable but our needs are more complex, we're trying to use real product usage signals to route people between different streams and that capability is really clunky here. On top of that, it drives me nuts that you can't update custom objects straight from form submissions which adds extra manual work and breaks my preferred workflows.

“poor reports!
Pros
Our support crew is excellent and launching huge campaigns takes virtually no time at all. Integration with our email platform is simple & we send out three to four emails every day without any problems.
Cons
The analytics for our marketing are seriously thin on specifics and that becomes frustrating when I need full, detailed data to make decisions. I can tell they're working on richer capabilities but from my view the rate of improvements moves too slowly given our requirements.

“simple setup but clutter over time
Pros
We had an easy setup and syncing with Salesforce makes it much easier for our sales and marketing groups to stay aligned and share updates easyly.
Cons
After years of different admins, it gets really messy. Everyone sets up folders and labels their own way, so the whole system just feels overwhelming.

“Features aren't worth the difficulty
Pros
Marketo boasts a vast array of features including robust reporting seamless integration with multiple platforms powerful list building and more. Once familiar with its capabilities I successfully managed a large volume of interconnected campaigns with Marketo.
Cons
Marketo presents a steeper learning curve compared to other email marketing platforms I've encountered. Clients often struggled to manage it independently consuming a significant amount of my time. Despite its enhanced capabilities practicality is questionable for average businesses due to missing standard features like adding emojis to emails stability issues effective merge fields flexible templates clear error communication and more. The troubles outweighed the benefits and I lack confidence in the accuracy of the data retrieved from it.
