My experience

Pros

Having real time access to our own data is huge!! The automation goes far beyond the standard 'out of the box' setup so bringing on more providers hasn't meant hiring more staff to keep up. Scheduling stays reliable even with multiple locations and lots of providers plus the notes and forms are flexible enough that we shaped them around how we actually work instead of changing our workflow to fit the software. It also supports single sign on and SCIM provisioning which means staff use the same Microsoft or Google login they already use elsewhere and accounts are automatically created or disabled as people come and go. That's been a big advantage for both security and admin work once you have more than a few users (even though most buyers don't think to ask about it). It also handles complex payer mixes without any trouble! We set up our EDI agreements one payer at a time and ended up eliminating 98% of paper billing. After four years of heavy growth, it has continued to keep pace :))

Cons

Despite the praise, this software does have some drawbacks. At the beginning, it is somewhat difficult to figure out and the price runs higher than the smaller practice systems which is probably the complaint people bring up most often. I don't think that argument means much unless you actually look at the return. Software cost is minor compared with payroll and if the platform cuts manual work and speeds up the time from visit to payment, that price difference tends to disappear within the first quarter. Support is where I see the most room for improvement. When the issue is more complex, it can take a few tries before it reaches someone who really understands the deeper parts of the system. Still I understand that no vendor is perfect there and I've dealt with worse. The bigger problem usually isn't even on the vendor side: a lot of practices set everything up at go-live, never revisit the configuration and then blame the system for behaving exactly the way the defaults were left. More than any other platform I've used, this one pays off when you put real effort into setup. Understanding how to aim it at your cash flow and then scale it for enterprise-level throughput and volume is what really determines the value you get. If a practice plans to stay the same size forever and never change how it operates, a lot of what this system offers will probably go unused.

Good software but not flawless

Pros

Everything ranging from the last note, ratings, documents, messages, labs and prescriptions is visible from the clinical screen and THAT is genuinely helpful (keeps everything in one place!) The templates work for both providers and patients and can be customized which adds a lot of flexibility. It also includes useful elements like an addition function that comes in handy for things like calculating a PHQ-9 total score. Notes are ultimately rendered in MS Word so you can take advantage of Word's tables and field codes which is impressive! With AI now in the mix, that power is much more accessible even if you are not a coder so older complaints about complexity feel less relevant. The billing module is also solid, with filters and claim recommendations that help improve first-pass claim acceptance.

Cons

On the downside, the electronic prescribing setup follows NCPDP-driven pharmacy priorities so the workflow feels built more for pharmacy usability and safety than for prescribers :/ Because of that, the process is extremely click heavy and inefficient which becomes a constant annoyance. With EPCS you have to choose each medication to send, then select each one all over again inside EPCS, click through multiple steps, enter your personal password and then provide a rotating 6 digit access code. It is honestly hard to imagine a more inconvenient workflow. There is also no medical director guiding the organization and that gap is noticeable. Having staff guess what providers need clearly does not translate well in practice. Cost is another major issue since this EMR runs about 30% to 50% higher than competing systems for small to mid-sized practices. Also, because the company is owned by private equity, it often feels like the priority is extracting as much revenue as possible from users :(

An Expensive Regret from Start to Finish

Pros

I found nothing positive to say about this EHR

Cons

Its negatives are overwhelming and have made this purchase an expensive regret. The platform is excessively complicated and the training was both time-consuming and minimally beneficial, while promised psychological assessment tools never materialized. Customer service is absolutely horrifying, routinely passing callers to other departments without offering any real help and the telehealth platform works less than half the time. Patients are unable to easily self-schedule and for the price, the system offers terrible value especially when more affordable and functional alternatives exist. To make matters worse, cancellation has proven deliberately difficult, with billing continuing long after the reviewer requested to terminate service.

Customizable EHR with helpful AI

Pros

Switching to this EHR felt like a noticeable upgrade from the one we had before. It was much more efficient and gave us a lot more flexibility to customize things around the way our team works. Scheduling patients was fairly simple and having the patient portal built in made communication between patients and providers much more connected. Support was also impressively quick and effective which really helped since the system was brand new to our whole company at the time. The AI features built into the platform were useful as well. On top of that, it was simple to learn, easy to tailor to our needs and patient management flowed much better than it did in our previous system. Having Zoom integrated for virtual visits was another feature we really appreciated.

Cons

Group scheduling was the area that gave us the most trouble. At times it did not work as smoothly as we needed and that could make billing those sessions more difficult. That said there was always some kind of workaround available even if it meant we had to get a little creative to make it function the way we needed.

responsive support team

Pros

Whenever an issue came up, the customer service team was quick to respond and helpful with troubleshooting. Scheduling was also simple to manage.

Cons

One frustrating part was not being able to opt out of marketing emails after creating an account. My inbox ended up getting flooded with too much promotional spam.

poor support!

Pros

No positive takeaways for us ! although the company did at least provide a training period but that training proved so poor that they still cannot even determine whether the core system actually functions properly

Cons

The problems are severe and persistent. Switching billing programs required submitting separate paperwork to each insurance carrier and four months later, Medicare ERAs are still routing to the old program with no resolution in sight. The onboarding lead who oversaw the process ignored emails and when the trainer reached out on the reviewer's behalf, that lead dismissively replied that it was no longer her problem and directed them to submit tech support tickets instead. Custom documentation templates were advertised as achievable but the company failed to disclose the hidden cost of one hundred fifty dollars per hour to convert those templates into a printable format. Training hours are limited yet much of that precious time was squandered troubleshooting technical malfunctions rather than learning how to use the system effectively.

Nice but paying for everything bothers me

Pros

I do like it because you can do a lot of stuff directly with the program. No need for extra tools or add ons when you have enough features in the program itself.

Cons

I have to pay for everything and I dont like that. The support team is not as responsive and I expect them to be very professional since I am paying so much.

Not a good fit for e-rx users

Pros

I love that I can customize It to use the SOAP format for notes. It really helps me stay organized.

Cons

Prescribing is a nightmare. If you're prescribing controlled substances, I would definitely not recommend this program.

Began well but now it's really bad

Pros

At first, It was great and super easy to use. But over the last couple of years, it feels like they've stopped caring. There are constant glitches, downtime and remember the healthcare outage? It's been pretty rough. I've had it for about 10 years now but I'm starting to get frustrated with the lack of improvements.

Cons

Customer service is terrible and the features feel outdated. It's not what I expected at all.

Both frustrating and essential

Pros

The EHR and PM (billing module) are both solid. They work well and are efficient. The patient portal is super functional too. My patients can schedule appointments, make payments, see what meds I've prescribed and where they've been sent and even fill out and submit forms. The EHR and PM are definitely powerful but they're pricey, you get what you pay for, though.

Cons

The eRx function is so inefficient. For example, if I need to resend 4 medications, I have to select each one, hit 'Resend,' and then send each one individually. Or, I have to save them to the main console, select each one again, and send them. It's even worse with controlled substances (CII). You basically have to rebuild one prescription, duplicate it, save it to the console, and repeat the process. AMD uses DrFirst EPCS, which means I need to select each medication separately, then enter a password and a six-digit code from Symantec VIP. It's honestly a mess. The recent update actually got rid of a 'Quick Resend' feature, so now I have to click each Rx at least twice just to resend it. Despite tons of negative feedback, they've made it clear they won't bring this feature back. If you're thinking about using AMD, have your salesperson walk you through this eRx process first , trust me it's much more inefficient than it sounds.

Too many layers

Pros

I like how this software can be used for documenting in an Ambulatory Surgical Center. The customization options are great and let me tailor things to what I need.

Cons

Everything has to be typed in manually and I have to fill out so many boxes just to complete one note. It's pretty tedious.

Disappointed, looking for a better choice

Pros

It is great for keeping patient records compliant. It gives me peace of mind knowing I'm following the rules.

Cons

The customer service is terrible. The system isn't as flexible, it's tough to pull reports, the patient portal is awful and the integration with other software and APIs is really lacking.

Very easy to use

Pros

I've been using the AMD practice management system since 2014 and I've never had any issues with training the users. It's really easy to use. plus the district manager is always available to help if I need anything.

Cons

The cost is just too high, especially for optometrist practices. This is the only big issue I'm facing with my clients right now.

Amazingg tool!

Pros

It is super easy to customize. I can create my own templates and documents, which makes things a lot more efficient for me.

Cons

Setting it up is a real challenge. A lot of our clients get frustrated with AMD because of issues with preferences, templates and other setup problems. Once everything is fixed, they love it but it's a bit of a headache getting there.

AdvancedMD EHR makes things easy

Pros

It's really easy to use and Advanced MD support is amazing. Once I set up the templates, the physicians can go through documentation. Printing notes and medical records is also a snap.

Cons

It can take a while to set up the templates and navigating them isn't always the easiest. But they're constantly improving and in the past 17 years, I've seen their EHR system become a lot more user-friendly.

Fav EHR solution

Pros

What I appreciate the most about AMD is that if I ever get stuck or can't find an answer through their training library, their support team is just a call away. They're always quick to help me out and resolve any issues I face.

Cons

One of the biggest issues I face as an admin is the inability to delete certain things. Our clinical staff sometimes miss details and when things need to be deleted, I can't do it.

Why Advanced MD EHR works for us

Pros

The scheduling features are really handy and it's easy to track client visits for billing and progress notes.

Cons

The lack of Android connections is a big problem. It doesn't work well with Chromebooks or Google Sheets and we really need a word processing program for some of the features.
