Great software needs support

Pros

This software is designed for the medical billing and EHR community. It's very comprehensive and thorough, with many features to assist with new regulations.

Cons

Lack of customer support and billing staff's lack of knowledge make it cumbersome to work with claims rules and holds not addressed by trained AR or RCM staff.

Athena review

Pros

Athena was the first EMR I used when transitioning from paper charts. There was a steep learning curve, and only the expertise of a well-trained hospital employee got us through the transition. It slowed us down initially, but our notes and billing improved.

Cons

I wish I could open 2 windows simultaneously like other EMRs. The reason I'd never recommend this system is because they couldn't help us merge charts from one Athena chart to another. When our hospital was acquired by another system, we had to change our Tin number. They claimed they couldn't carry over crucial information like consults, lab trends, and imaging reports, which we needed for a smooth transition. This made no sense, especially considering the frequent acquisitions in the medical environment. It's been a complete disaster for me and everyone in our medical group.

Report Data is NOT true data

Pros

The facesheet displays all pertinent patient information before an encounter is opened, as long as the clinical staff have updated the chart correctly.

Cons

I'm sharing this as a personal opinion, not representing my present or past employer. I've used this EMR for five years in various roles. There are too many workarounds for providers and support staff. Their logic in reports is illogical. Data doesn't pull accurately, so charts have to be manually checked to ensure measures are satisfied. Calling customer support in five years has only resulted in one helpful specialist. The others always escalate the case, which never gets logically resolved. ACO and UDS reporting makes sense, but Athena's report logic doesn't pull accurate data. I've had to manually check charts to ensure the work was done by clinical staff before reporting it out. This is just one example of the issues with Athena's logic, and why I would never recommend it to any FQHC needing to report data.

Trouble shooting

Pros

The only way to get help is if 100 practices have the same problem. Worst customer service. Terrible product, every update is another hassle.

Cons

The technology team behind this program seems incompetent at best.

Helps with billing, but not with clinical aspects

Pros

I interned with a primary care physician and got familiar with this software. For billing, it helped the doctor and administrative assistant a lot in keeping track of patient payments. It was easy to use that part, and the billing data was well organized.

Cons

The rest of this software's functions were confusing and not intuitive. It also lagged a lot, and reaching customer service was impossible.

Athena EMR

Pros

It's easy to enter patient data, and I like the tab that accesses meaningful use reminders for screenings, vaccines, etc. It's also excellent for maximizing billable services.

Cons

I dislike that I can't be in the patient's chart and keep the daily schedule open on the side while charting.

Athena software

Pros

The Athena software enables registering, scheduling, and checking in and out a patient. These actions are performed in a prioritized and organized manner.

Cons

While Athena software enables registering, scheduling, and checking in and out a patient in a prioritized and organized manner, it often struggles with frequent system glitches and slow response times, which can disrupt these processes and cause delays.

Worst EHR Imaginable to a Physician

Pros

Certain sections are well organized. Easy INR management, fairly good growth charts with automatically calculated percentages, good implementation of external screening questionnaires, meaningful use, etc. Ability to create auto-texts, templates, etc.

Cons

This product is incredibly glitchy: text formatting issues, slow-downs, crashes, and an outdated medication refill system. It's difficult to confidently manage prescriptions or communicate with other healthcare providers. It requires too much daily maintenance work and lacks helpful customer or IT support.

The broad health network.

Pros

The integration between the health network, medical connections across all specialties, and the wide variety of patients creates a personalized service platform with state-of-the-art technology and quality.

Cons

It would be great to integrate more services such as laboratories, diagnostic centers, and pharmaceuticals for a more comprehensive information network with optimal quality care.
