great customer support

Pros

One thing that keeps us happy with Compulink is how consistently they keep refining the software. The newer updates have made the screens much cleaner and cut down on a lot of unnecessary clicking. We also get a lot of value from the custom reporting tools, since they let us pull exactly the data we need when the built in reports are not enough. Having everything connected in one system is a big convenience too especially being able to move straight from a patient's exam to the eyewear section without jumping around. Another major plus is the support team. It makes a huge difference being able to talk to experienced, long time staff who really know the system inside and out instead of being handed off to someone with very limited training. When bugs or other issues come up, they respond quickly and get things handled. Also it is really encouraging to see them continuing to expand and improve the patient management side of the software.

Cons

An area for improvement is linking a resource like an OCT or Visual Field to a doctor's schedule. Right now it's not set up in a way that makes this easy for the patient representative.

allows us to do everything on one screen

Pros

Compulink really shines when it comes to customization. Instead of boxing you into a complex EHR workflow, it lets you shape the system around how you actually work. You can drag and drop parts of the patient chart so the layout matches real visits. That flexibility is useful across specialties like sports medicine or optical retail as you can remove irrelevant fields and keep documentation clean. Also the OneTab screen is a huge efficiency booster. Having nearly everything visible at once means nurses and techs can often complete about 90% of their charting from a single screen. Favorites and presets also save time on routine visits, so charting can take less than three minutes. Another major strength is how well the EHR and practice management sides work together especially for offices with a retail component like optometry. It handles exams, orders and insurance claims all in one connected process. With a single shared database, there's no waiting for systems to sync and fewer front desk to back office communication issues. Newer 2026 versions added SMART Workflow and AI tools. Automated status tracking helps staff know where the patient is and what comes next, and built in coding assistance suggests codes based on documentation helping with both compliance and reimbursement. Support is also a strong point. Occasional glitches happen but its customer service is knowledgeable and easy to reach by phone. Pricing also stays relatively stable and transparent compared with software that keeps adding subscription costs.

Cons

That said it definitely has a learning curve. New users cannot just jump in and figure it out right away. The interface can feel overwhelming at first with so many buttons, tabs and configuration options. Training takes real time and many practitioners feel the initial onboarding period is too short. Navigation can also feel less user friendly than it should. Some tasks that seem simple like finding a patient ledger or editing a table can require digging through multiple menus. The design sometimes does not follow modern web logic which adds to the frustration. Frequent updates are another mixed bag. They are necessary to stay current with medical regulations but they can cause version instability. A common complaint is that an update fixes one small issue and unexpectedly creates another problem somewhere else like in scheduling or the prescription module. Updates can also disrupt established workflows by resetting custom settings or moving icons around, which forces staff to relearn habits they had already built.

Excellent for managing an optical practice

Pros

From optical practice workflows to patient management, everything with Compulink has been excellent. The system is always accessible when I need it, I haven't run into bugs or technical issues and the customer support is consistently helpful. The security features also add a lot of confidence and overall it is well worth the money.

Cons

Honestly I don't have any complaints. As it stands out as a top-tier product to me and I really only have positive things to say about it.

Has all the tools we need

Pros

Everything I need is in one program including charts, financial records, insurance payments and patient reminders which makes managing the practice much more convenient.

Cons

There are a lot of features I don't use and I'm not able to remove them. Since I don't use a clearing house for billing that part just ends up feeling unnecessary to me.

Strong reports with easy navigation

Pros

This is the first EHR I've used that is simple to navigate while also offering every report I could need and even a few extra ones I wasn't expecting.

Cons

The only downside is that I feel like the support teams response time could be better.

Complicated Interface

Pros

I did not find anything that I particularly enjoyable about Compulink.

Cons

I found the program challenging for both optical and medical staff to use. The training period was very brief and despite weeks of trying to figure out the program I still felt confused.

Customizable EMR

Pros

I truly valued the Compulink team for their quick responses to my inquiries. They were also very accommodating in helping me tailor the provider and patient experiences to my needs. Running a sports medicine and eating disorder clinic, I had them remove weight as a mandatory variable from many presets and eliminate some automated patient education that was triggering for my patients. They assisted me in customizing my charting environment, which has sped up my documentation process. Now, I use the same EMR for my sports/family medicine practice, my PT, my chiropractor and soon for therapists and dietitians as well.

Cons

Adding diagnoses sometimes requires more effort than I'm used to with Epic but it does get easier with more use. Throughout my career, I have worked with Epic, Cerner and Meditech, with Epic being my clear favorite. Epic was too costly for my small private practice but I still prefer Compulink over Cerner and definitely more than Meditech.

Great Optometry/Medical Software

Pros

I love how user friendly Compulink is. Searching for patients is pretty easy and the top tabs neatly organize every part of the patient chart. The drop down selection menus cover everything and the tables and scheduler are customizable. I am really impressed with the system!

Cons

There are features in the software that we are not using which I did like to explore. However, programming the data into the software seems beyond my skill level. As an optometry practice we do not use the ordering sections so price calculations and insurance billing are not available to us.

Compulink is the BEST!

Pros

I find Compulink to be highly customizable! Each ASC is unique and I like that Compulink lets me directly modify our workflow (like layout, documentation, printable forms etc.) without unnecessary hurdles. Since implementing Compulink in our ASC, we have developed a process that suits us perfectly. What used to require two full time Front Desk Receptionists to prepare patient charts can now be managed by just one. Compulinks ease of use is a big plus as our nurses and technicians find it simple because most of their documentation can be done on one screen and they can set up Favorites for quick charting. Its simplicity allows us to train new employees or agency staff quickly. Although we do not often need support from Compulink, their customer service is always prompt and helpful. The system is budget friendly with simple invoicing and consistent pricing over the years, even during the pandemic and inflation. From a management perspective, its reassuring to see that many of the Compulink employees who helped set up my former surgery center are still with the company. This stability is important because it means I know who to contact for assistance and a low turnover rate reflects well on the company.

Cons

We have had issues in the past when updates were made to the system including one incident where we lost a significant amount of data and had to revert to paper charts until it was resolved. However, its been a while since we have faced any update related problems, and it seems to be fixed now.

Cooper Eyecare review of compulink

Pros

Sending patient history and demographics before exams, authorizing through Compulink, integrating equipment and managing contact lens evaluations, orders and sales are all seamlessly handled. I also like the option that allows us to customize and the logical presentation of their tabs.

Cons

The software automatically calculates the contact lenses needed based on refraction, trial contact lenses and over refraction. It also allows me to import or use Excel sheets with Compulink.

Virtually end-to-end EMR/practice management solution

Pros

I like that Compulink integrates almost all EMR and practice management needs into one package.

Cons

I find the customization of reports to be limited without additional paid features and exam layouts can only be customized with a higher cost version of the software. Some procedures are complex and not intuitive and there are minimal options to search or sort lists. Adding to system tables is not very resourceful.

Compulink review

Pros

I find Compulink very easy to use and generally navigate through things without trouble. However, I do struggle with Compulink University as it is challenging to find what I am looking for. Searches often return results that are not related to my query. Despite this, I really like the EHR itself. It seems to have many features we might not even be aware of.

Cons

It is important for us to have a contact person who is easily reachable and can collaborate with our IT team to resolve issues quickly as any problems often interfere with patient care. The medication field seems to be a persistent issue. Although I have not heard many recent complaints, I know there were frequent issues with it freezing the computer or slowing it down when merging medications.

Loving Compulink

Pros

I really like the collaborative approach in implementing the software and the thorough training to make sure we are prepared. The support is excellent and I can set up my own templates, which speeds up charting.

Cons

There are minor annoyances such as having to click in certain areas of tabs instead of tabbing to them and the cloud times out too quickly sometimes. I might get caught up with a patient and have to log back in to continue where I left off. Its not a major issue but it can be a bit frustrating when I am in a rush.

Compulink Usability

Pros

I love how easy Compulink is to use and how customizable it can be. The end user training is pretty simple, to the point and I also like the fact that Compulink offers quick classes that staff can watch.

Cons

I would love to see Compulink settle on one or two vendors to handle most of the integrations. For instance, merging web registration, appointment scheduling and the patient portal into a cohesive system would be great.

Flexible, Effective EMR!

Pros

Our favorite aspect of using Compulink is the exceptional support from every level of the company. For every question, there are helpful resources available and for issues not covered in the comprehensive documentation, the knowledgeable and patient staff are just a phone call away.

Cons

Our practice had some trouble hosting the Compulink server ourselves but since moving to their Cloud Hosted AWS solution, we have faced so few problems and those were resolved so quickly that its hardly worth mentioning.
