smooth onboarding, needs statement details

Pros

When I first began using the full suite of services that drchrono provides, I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the switch turned out to be. I had imagined it would require endless hours of training, multiple trial runs and plenty of setbacks before we were truly up and running. Fortunately, that never happened. We were fully functional right from day one with minimal effort indeed.

Cons

We've only been using this software for around five months so there are still a few things we're getting used to. Because our office operates on eastern Standard Time, there are times when reaching a specific representative means waiting several hours for a reply that's simply due to the time difference. I am not fond of the way the statements are formatted they lack detail. It would help a lot if the statements showed co-pays, co-insurance and deductible balances. Also, when scheduling an appointment for a patient, it would be helpful if the screen displayed the facility the patient is assigned to since we see patients across multiple locations. We solved that by creating flags but having it built in would be preferable.

Focused on building ehr systems

Pros

As a nonprofit that also runs a Low Vision Occupational Therapy and Optometry practice, I already found it hard to come across software that could handle both of my clinical disciplines and it felt nearly impossible to find an EHR that could also satisfy our nonprofit-specific needs like collecting household headcount, annual income, veteran status and similar demographic information. Discovering Dr Chrono was a relief. They truly are an organization focused on building EHR systems and they provide the blend of clinical functionality and administrative flexibility that I needed. It really does feel like getting the best of both worlds. Throughout our implementation period they have continually looked for ways to adapt the platform to fit our workflows and reporting requirements. So far they've been successful at creating workarounds and tailoring elements to suit us. I'd definitely advise anyone with specialized reporting demands or practices that cross unusual healthcare boundaries, like my combined OT/OD services, to take a serious look at Dr Chrono.

Cons

At this stage I genuinely appreciate how the implementation is going but I am having trouble because our setup includes more than one kind of practitioner which complicates configuration and workflows.

simple setup and quick document upload

Pros

Setting it up and customizing the screens was not a problem and I found most of the billing codes are already populated in the database. The forms are simple to modify and uploading documents, photos and exam notes is quick and issue-free.

Cons

However it lacks an employee clock-in feature and doesn't let me print spectacle or contact lens prescriptions directly from a patient's chart like my previous system allowed. Support does reply quickly to inquiries but you must submit questions through their online form and then wait for a callback which often comes at inconvenient times. That back-and-forth can turn into a frustrating game of phone tag.

excellent support but could be faster

Pros

I have found the vendor's interface easy to use and the customer support they offer is excellent and reliable. I genuinely feel they are a powerful company to choose and on top of that the people I interact with are consistently kind and personable.

Cons

In my experience the product would benefit from additional UI work as it sometimes feels a little sluggish although it's still functional and pleasant to use. I would really welcome more UI improvements to speed things up and polish the overall feel.

User friendly on tablet and phone

Pros

Really like how user friendly the EHR is and that I can pull it up on a tablet or my phone. Getting everyone in the office up to speed turned out to be easier than I expected and I thought training the team would be a much bigger challenge.

Cons

What I dislike most is that I cannot prescribe controlled substances through the system having that explained to me up front or being presented with possible workarounds would have saved a lot of issue. I also find it frustrating that sending lab or imaging orders to any provider outside of Health Gorilla is so cumbersome and limiting. When we were getting the EMR set up, the first person who assisted me and delivered my initial training was incredibly helpful and patient. Unfortunately, the woman who followed for our subsequent training was very difficult to reach as her voicemail filled up and we struggled to get answers.

Love one-on-one training and simplicity

Pros

I am really into the one-on-one training and the extra perks and I love how simple and sleek it feels to use.

Cons

It only runs on the iPad which I find limiting and building templates eats up a lot of my time.

Providers and staff absolutely thrilled

Pros

Our providers and office staff have been absolutely thrilled with DrChrono since the very first week we started using it. Although we're still learning all the ins and outs, the experience so far has been excellent and really encouraging. They offer a great deal of customization and the training they provided was practical and genuinely helpful for getting everyone up to speed. The support team assigned to us has been outstanding as they respond to emails quickly, reach out proactively without prompting and typically return phone calls within the same business day. I also love that it's cloud-based because clinicians and staff can schedule patients, write clinical notes, check AR, view the live claims feed and handle other tasks from the office, at home, in the hospital, or even while on vacation.

Cons

There are a few limitations that frustrate our workflow because they aren't customizable which makes some processes awkward. For example, our practice is a General Surgery office and we frequently need to schedule patients for Recall visits at 1, 3, 5, or 10 years but there's no built-in way to add patients to a Recall list for instance, everyone who needs a recall visit in September 2019. Right now the only workaround is to add a flag to the patient's chart and then search by that flag. The system will generate a report that pulls all flagged patients but there's no option to organize those results by date which is really inconvenient. On the bright side, DrChrono does have a Reddit-style up/down suggestion area so if enough providers request a proper Recall feature, there's a chance they'll build it.

Custom templates still a little complex

Pros

What I appreciate is that the templates are completely customizable so I can make my own edits and personalize them as needed. I can also download pre-existing templates and adjust those to suit my workflow.

Cons

I really don't like how the system is organized. It feels like there's no clear home screen and if one exists it's not obvious so finding notes isn't easy. There should be a much quicker way to bring up notes but instead I end up clicking through five different pages before I can even open a SOAP note for routine charting.

easy to use with warm support

Pros

I found the product easy to use. The team at Dr. Chrono has been consistently warm and very supportive and they still are. I never hesitate to pick up the phone or send an email if any issue comes up.

Cons

Occasionally Dr. Chrono skips around the interface and I cannot always select the specific location I need when I am trying to access it which is frustrating.

easy to use with clean layout

Pros

I find the software very easy to use and appreciate its clean layout and format. When I do need customer support, my issue is typically resolved in under thirty minutes which I really value.

Cons

I get frustrated having to toggle back and forth between the doctor and the nurse practitioner. It would be much better if there were a more organized way to handle that switch so it feels less clunky.

speedy performance and incredibly adaptable

Pros

Performance is speedy and reliable and platform is incredibly adaptable. I can build bespoke forms for any specialty. Also, it's the only EHR I have found that provides native iPad apps rather than a web interface that makes a big difference! The system is very user-friendly and easy to learn and it fits how I work instead of forcing me to change my routine. DrChrono support is excellent too as our assigned specialist is always responsive and very helpful.

Cons

Not fully adapted to Spain and I find many features untranslatable. Suited for USA/english-speaking countries.

Highly customizable with clean interface

Pros

It's highly customizable and really makes record-keeping simpler. I also appreciate the clean interface. The trainer they assigned to me, Jenny Parker, was pleasant to work with as he was attentive and clearly knowledgeable.

Cons

Like most programs, this one has a handful of small issues that I would tweak if given the chance.

Excellent EHR when I started my practice

Pros

I had been using drchrono EHR from the very beginning of it and would be known as an early user. Back in 2010, I opened my neurology practice, it was user-friendly and had a lot of advantages. They offered template making on your own, documenting notes etc, and it was very easy and efficient to do all the tasks. Although at that time there were very few good options plus it did not fit in my budget being a solo practitioner. The support staff is very friendly and helpful. Ive seen the company evolve and grow over the years. I closed my practice in 2014, but even if I was offered to use drchrono again I wont hesitate as I have been using it before and it never disappointed me in any way.

Cons

There is one issue that I think should have a solution and that is if a practitioner is no longer practicing or does not want their drchrono EHR account active should be able to store all of their records and have access to them. This is a major issue that I am facing and yet I am unable to sync it to my Box account as instructed.

Consistently positive and customizable

Pros

I have really enjoyed using DrChrono as my EMR it's been a consistently positive experience for our practice. The system can be tailored extensively to our needs and every person I have worked with during setup and ongoing use has been timely, courteous and efficient. I am genuinely pleased with choosing them for our EHR and the ongoing support from Gail Shania, Tanya Valluri and Sophia Samuel has been outstanding.

Cons

For me there are a few small quirks in how the EMR operates, such as the inability to automatically send an appointment confirmation at the exact moment an appointment is scheduled which would be a helpful feature.

a natural fit but unreliable support

Pros

For our busy outpatient surgical center, this has been almost a one stop bedside tool. Consent and data entry are pretty easy to handle. We found it essential to build our own templates for nearly the entire workflow and were able to do that with very little outside help. Overall it feels fairly natural. There are certainly drawbacks to creating your own templates but the option is pretty important for our practice. Plus being able to draw notes and fax them directly is excellent and the ongoing improvements in fax documentation and signing show they are actively trying to get better. The tiered service model can feel a bit clunky since you generally have to pick the features they bundle at each level but on the whole it is decent given those constraints. They also provide online instructions and videos for many features although those videos are often outdated and it is hard to tell which version they cover. They should label each training video with the specific DrChrono version to avoid wasting time. Overall the setup was simple, the initial setup support was helpful and the training they offer is solid.

Cons

The variability in service quality is something I cannot stress enough. There's no direct phone line and the only way to reach them is via email and that makes things very frustrating. When they do call back, it's sometimes at times when I am busy or after hours so it feels like support is always at arm's length. That distance makes resolving complex problems extremely difficult. I would gladly pay extra for a dedicated phone line or hotline but that option has been rejected for reasons I don't understand. Running support this way seems like a poor choice for an EHR company. We experience frequent breakdowns, slow performance and problems using notes. even after bumping our office internet up to 15G, the improvement was limited and it only speeds things up when the system is actually working. I still recommend higher bandwidth because the data load is heavy and DrChrono can accomplish a lot when functioning properly. However these outages have forced us to revert to paper charting on multiple occasions. A recent example we couldn't view a complete note from the iPads while it was visible on the computer which is not how we operate and shouldn't be expected to. That incident was resolved in a few hours but the very next day notes were unreadable from either the iPad or the computer. We've also had consent forms drop off the consent list on the iPad or appear in reverse order. After many emails they finally admitted there was a problem but the back-and-forth process creates poor communication. It's especially frustrating when they ask for a screenshot of an issue that happened days earlier. even then, the best you often get is we are looking at this. Their team can be pretty decent when they respond but I really wish they offered a service package that included phone support or a hotline.

Really impressed by user friendly

Pros

I am really impressed by how user friendly it is as everything I need is literally at my fingertips. I was able to start using it right away and feel confident that I'll pick up the rest as I go. Kyle has been incredibly patient and supportive which made me comfortable asking what might be basic questions.

Cons

For a practice that is new to EHR systems, I find it a bit frightening trying to figure out where my patient records are actually stored and how secure they are. I am genuinely eager to keep learning and I appreciate that this vendor seems committed to helping me until every one of my questions is fully answered.

Outstanding step-by-step training

Pros

The training was outstanding. They took me through the software step by step and I also received a video recording to refer back to while implementing. My trainer, Gail, was incredibly thorough and knew the product so well that there wasn't a single question or problem she couldn't resolve or explain. They even scheduled a follow-up session so I could start using the product and bring any questions or issues that came up to review during that follow-up which made the whole onboarding feel smooth and stress-free.

Cons

honestly I don't really have any complaints. If anything, this system is more than what I need because my practice is a small boutique office and I don't handle insurance billing or prescriptions, etc.

Runs my solo practice profitably

Pros

DrChrono lets me run my solo psychiatric practice both efficiently and profitably. I can adjust whatever I need, whenever I need to and the interface is incredibly simple and easy to use. They take care of my billing and credentialing processes so my only real job is seeing patients. I have only ever received positive customer service and support. even when I am traveling internationally, I am able to document visits and write prescriptions for my patients. When other practitioners problem about their systems, I usually laugh and tell them they're missing out because an EHR can be functional, affordable, easy to use and supported by a responsive team.

Cons

honestly I don't have any major complaints about DrChrono.

Frequent updates and far superior

Pros

The platform gets frequent updates and improvements and I find it far superior to other systems. After using DrChrono for a year, we spent two months comparing nineteen other EMR products. None came close in usability and scalability, customization options, or overall pricing. The sales reps worked closely with us to build a customized setup for our cash-based laser therapy clinic. A few glitches did pop up but Gail from Implementation worked hard to resolve them, kept us constantly updated and pushed their developers to create fixes and tailored solutions just for our practice. Having Gail as a dedicated Implementation specialist made it feel as though the entire company was focused on our clinic alone. Overall this has been an excellent experience and I plan to use DrChrono for many, many years to come.

Cons

As with any cloud-based service, there are occasional moments when it becomes sluggish or temporarily unavailable. That happened to us twice in past four months but outages were fixed within thirty minutes.
