Pros
Charting does become more streamlined with it. Although I have to add many of my own buttons for compliance with different insurance companies, it still feels quite robust.
Cons
Integrating claims with InAvalon has been a total nightmare since the switch and I have been frustrated by the lack of support. When I started, the learning curve for charting in iCanNotes was about average. I wish there were more customization options. I have a lot of extra buttons on my screen that I will never use.

I finally found the right EHR for my behavioral health practice
Pros
As an APRN/owner about to launch my practice, ICANotes has been a great relief for me. I had used it during my clinicals and I'm glad I returned to ICANotes. I really appreciate the "click boxes" feature for charting, which generates a well written narrative in the progress note. The integration of assessment tools and the smooth workflow are impressive. I can complete a note in just three minutes, maintaining excellent quality. The trainers and customer support team are exceptional! They have been incredibly supportive and I enjoy training with them. It's no surprise they have a full training schedule!

I am trying desperately to make this EHR system work for me
Pros
What I like about this EHR system is its certification ensuring that the notes are easy to manage and will pass any audit. That is my main reason for choosing this system. I find myself in more contact with their IT department than with Simple Practice.
Cons
I am facing some challenges with ICANotes+. The charting process can be quite overwhelming unlike their legacy program. My clients have expressed frustration with the system, finding it difficult to complete paperwork, sometimes taking them over 4 hours for an intake. I also experience frequent page crashes while using it. Unlike other EHR systems like Google Meets or Simple Practice, I have had to clear the cache and add "https://" to load certain webpages, which shouldn't be necessary. Troubleshooting issues has become a regular occurrence, requiring constant IT support. Moving my clients from another EHR to this one has been challenging too. Unfortunately, I can't use my own editable forms or assessments during client sessions.

Great for mental healthcare facilities.
Great for mental healthcare facilities.
Pros
It is a very capable software with the ability to create mental health forms such as screening questionnaires and treatment plans with measurable objectives in a matter of minutes. I can perform complete mental health assessments just by sitting on my computer and rarely need a notepad. Note taking is a breeze and it is easy to include a thorough mental health status examination. All the notes are organized well and I love that I can also link my treatment plans to my case notes so that I can keep in mind therapy progress when creating a case note.
Cons
I haven’t really faced any real issues while using it but there are still some inconveniences every now and then. The software sometimes struggles to keep up to my pace due to internet issues at my end or probably server issues on their end. The UI is not very smooth itself which adds to the lags and overall sluggish appearance. Training program is very hectic, requiring us to take a whole week off just to be able to comprehend the basic usage of ICANotes.

ICANotes speeds up my work.
ICANotes speeds up my work.
Pros
ICANotes is an amazing medical note taking software. I love that I am able to construct algorithms and speed up my work using ICANotes. There are so many different charts available and navigating them is a breeze. I can include clear and comprehensive guideline categories that may be incorporated into the notes with the press of a button. The pharmacy section is extremely user-friendly and I have yet to come across a drug that isn’t listed here. Each charts front page makes it simple to see allergies and medical issues at a glance, promoting safety and fast recall to physicians when necessary.
Cons
One of the major problems that we face is the connectivity issues. We have faced so many significant disruptions and pauses that our company had to move to a web-based launch, rather than remote log-in. It was very time consuming and unpleasant, given the pace that my business required. That being said, they have significantly improved the connectivity and added a lot more servers than before. I would like some minor UI changes as well. Like the ability to left-align categories in each section so that the headers dont appear to be floating in the middle of the page.

OK for Small Mental Health Group
OK for Small Mental Health Group
Pros
The mental health providers who have been using this software for a long time really speak highly of it. They have a strong affinity for the EHR and believe it works best for them.
Cons
I am not satisfied with this software for several reasons. It runs very slowly and the "web based" RDP connection lacks sufficient RAM. The customer service is terrible with no one available to assist and their solutions are not helpful. Integrating with their preferred partners is nearly impossible. They charge for services that others don't, and their response times can stretch for months, even with weekly follow-ups. Running reports is a comical experience, taking hours or even days, whereas it would only take seconds in other billing systems. We've had to dedicate a special computer just for running reports in ICANotes, as they can take 8-24 hours to complete before exporting.

Easy to learn, simple to follow.
Easy to learn, simple to follow.
Pros
ICAnotes is easy to learn - thanks to helpful video instructions for utilizing it. The customer service representatives have always been exceedingly helpful and kind. I enjoy the tools that allow me to customize my progress notes based on how I approach treatment difficulties. Progress notes can be completed fast and effortlessly. It was simple to integrate into our practice because it includes all of the features required by mental health providers, such as assessment forms, consents, and a fully integrated calendar with automatic patient reminders. It also has a telemedicine platform.
Cons
Invoicing is not as polished as other modules in ICANotes. For example, the invoicing on HCFA forms will only allow me to print one service per form, and I normally require the ability to print and bill several charges on one form weekly or monthly. We eventually had to move to a clearinghouse for billing which solved the issue for us. It is great that I can always get help from online forums which are full of helpful advice. If anything is beyond my capabilities, the customer service team is always available.

The reminders sent to patients for appointments is the best feature
Cons
I have found the support to be unhelpful and the server crashes are frequent. The system takes too long to load and is difficult to navigate. I often encounter repetitive screens and switching between calendars for different providers is time consuming. The telehealth feature doesn't function properly and the notes feel repetitive and lack individualization.

Pros

Cons
The program is a mess with an overwhelming number of buttons. Documenting services feels like navigating through a maze. The system tends to go down randomly which can be quite annoying. A horribly misrepresented product
A horribly misrepresented product
Pros
The customer service provided within the product is prompt and responsive. This is key because you'll often need their assistance.
Cons
ICANotes is noticeably slower compared to other EMRs and computer programs. There are areas where you get stuck and can't proceed such as receiving an error message when creating a patient chart without all the required information. The interface itself looks grainy and unclear, making it difficult to work with throughout the day. Scrolling is too fast, and the text windows are small, leading to difficulties in highlighting and scrolling through text within the boxes. The copy/paste functionality is inconvenient, requiring the use of an app-specific clipboard. It's challenging to refer to prior notes during a session, making it difficult to answer important questions. Updating different areas of the medical chart can only be done through specific notes, which can be cumbersome. Uploading documents requires accessing a separate website, and there's no patient communication log.

Pros
When it is functioning properly, the software provides fantastic features that significantly speed up and simplify the charting process.
Cons
The system experiences issues on almost every workday. It is frustrating not being able to access the chart room directly which is where I usually go to review patient charts. Additionally, the system determines when I can document in the chart, causing delays. Waiting for the blue ring to stop spinning and processing inquiries takes a long time. I often see a coffee cup icon with steam, but I'm unsure of its meaning. Does it imply that I should take a coffee break while waiting for the software to function properly?
