Pros
Open Dental offers many customizable features compared to other PMS systems. I also have endless access to "how to" tutorials, or I can call their pleasant customer service for assistance!
Cons
Getting around certain sections might require extra clicks, but it's not a major issue overall.

There are numerous glitches with Open Dental Cloud, happening multiple times a day. I find myself constantly closing and reopening between patients and calls.

Pros
The tooth chart is efficient and informative; I can clearly see that I'm viewing the "distal of #3" just by looking at the chart. It's easy to add frequently used buttons, make auto notes, and use them. The auto notes allow me to stop anytime, type in a note, and then pick back up with auto prompts whenever I want. It's easy to see insurance coverage and how much a patient owes, so I know if they even need to stop at the front desk to check out. The schedule is easy to use with appealing color blocks. Perio charting is simple, and it's easy to toggle back and forth to show patients changes between this perio charting and previous ones. I love having a place under the tooth chart for personal notes that can be seen and a way to easily place and see preferred hygienists or dentists on the schedule. HHx is easy to see on the same page as the chart.
Cons
I'm absolutely enamored with Open Dental. I've been a hygienist for a decade, and this software has exceeded all my expectations. It's incredibly efficient and meets all my needs.

The tooth chart is efficient and informative. I like how it clearly displays details like the "distal of #3" with just a glance. It's simple to add frequently used buttons and use auto notes efficiently. I appreciate the flexibility of stopping and starting auto prompts as needed. Managing insurance coverage and patient payments is easy, allowing us to streamline front desk procedures. The schedule feature, with its color-coded blocks, is not only efficient but visually pleasing. Perio charting is straightforward, making it easy to compare patient progress over time. I also find it useful to have a section under the tooth chart for personal notes, and it's convenient to designate preferred hygienists or dentists directly on the schedule. Health history (HHx) information is conveniently accessible on the same page as the chart.
Cons
I absolutely love Open Dental. As a hygienist for 10 years, I've never been happier with software, it fulfills all my needs and more. Efficiency is crucial to me, and this software checks all the boxes.

“Best Value for a Dental Software
Pros
With one window, I can view everything for the patient by simply toggling between the options on the left. It's easy to log on and off without losing my space. Everything is customizable, and there are so many options. Customer Service is amazing, and they always call back quickly and are very knowledgeable. If something can't be figured out right away, they escalate it to a higher-level tech, and solutions are found promptly. The cost is great for such good customer service. Open Dental's value can't be beaten!
Cons
The forms could use improvement. Setting up and using sheets can be challenging. Updating them to a more modern approach would be my only suggestion.

It's convenient to have all patient information in one window, easily accessible by toggling through options on the left. Logging on and off is seamless without losing your place. The software's extensive customization options are impressive, offering numerous features to tailor to our needs. Customer service is exceptional, they respond promptly and are highly knowledgeable. If a problem requires advanced technical assistance, they escalate it efficiently. The cost is very reasonable considering the level of support offered. Open Dental offers unbeatable value!
Cons
The forms could use improvement. Sheets are difficult to use and set up. Updating them to a more modern approach would be my only request.

Cons
It's not a flaw of the software itself, but rather my own lack of knowledge. Some instructional videos seem to lack audio, which I've brought to their attention. While I try to watch the help videos first, sometimes I don't have the luxury of time and have to call support.

While I can go for months without needing assistance, when an issue arises, I find myself on the phone with them multiple times a day or for several consecutive days.
Cons
It's not really a con, but more my lack of knowledge. Some of the help videos seem to lack audio, which I've mentioned. I usually try to watch the help video first, but sometimes I need to call for assistance due to time constraints. I consider it more of an operator error on my part.
