“Wonderful voice dictation feature”
Pros
Handling invoices is very simple and being able to add progress notes right from my phone is incredibly convenient. The voice dictation feature works really well and makes the whole process feel effortless.
Cons
It seems like this may already be in development but there still needs to be a simpler way to keep track of family sessions.

“Lovely new additions”
Pros
Using it has been very user-friendly on both the therapist and client side. The newer additions, especially secure messaging and video conferencing, have been a big advantage for expanding a teletherapy practice and making clients feel more supported. The built-in forms are also really useful, whether you use them as they are or as a starting point for creating your own.
Cons
What would make it even better is having more options for uploading information when switching over from services outside of an established EHR.

“Quick and client-friendly”
Pros
This platform has been really enjoyable because I can log in and begin using it right away without being hit with a bunch of questions about how the system works. It's also been nice to jump straight in with clients and they've all been able to find their way around it without any trouble too.
Cons
The only part I'm still working through is the billing side, especially when insurance is involved but that's more about me learning that process in general than it being an issue with the platform itself.

“Top-notch client portal”
Pros
The client portal has been really useful and having clients book their appointments online is a big plus.
Cons
standard forms are a downside and it's frustrating that I can't simply upload my own.

“Integrated telehealth”
Pros
Having calendar sync with different calendar apps is really useful. The built-in reminders coming through three different methods are a big plus and I appreciate that they're included. The scheduling setup is simple to use. It's also a big benefit that telehealth is already integrated into the platform.
Cons
Something that really bothers me is that telehealth can't be enabled only for the specific counselors in a practice who actually need it. It ends up being very expensive to pay for that feature for everyone when only one or two providers use it. I also wish appointments could be color coded. Another drawback is that online groups aren't available and there's no screen sharing which forces me to pay for another service for individual sessions that need screen share and for running groups. The credit card processing fees are also too expensive and being limited to Stripe makes it worse. On top of that, the lack of phone support is very frustrating since you have to wait hours for an email response. Honestly, I would have picked Therapy Notes without hesitation if it didn't have the integrated virtual appointment feature.

“gives me peace of mind”
Pros
I can create notes and forms, upload them to the client portal and it's completely removed my need for paper while saving me a lot of time. It also gives me peace of mind knowing my communication with clients is HIPPA compliant.
Cons
There's definitely a bit of a learning curve. With so many features available, it takes some time to learn where everything is and understand the right way to do certain tasks. Some steps have to be done in a specific order. There are plenty of tutorials and help articles but it's still something you should expect to spend time getting used to.

“ability to build my own forms”
Pros
Having insurance billing, scheduling, documentation and financials all in one platform has been incredibly helpful. Another big plus is being able to build my own forms to send to clients, along with custom templates for notes and treatment plans.
Cons
A challenge so far has been converting some of my personal documents into the forms and note templates but I'm planning to keep working through that.

“Calendar syncs nicely with my Google Calendar”
Pros
One of the best parts for me is the calendar along with the client case notes. The calendar is very user-friendly and syncs nicely with my Google Calendar which makes scheduling much more convenient. The case notes include a range of templates so I have different options for documenting client sessions in the way that fits best. That has been really valuable. I also really appreciate the client reminder features.
Cons
My biggest issue is something that may not even be avoidable, it doesn't integrate with PayPal which is the platform I use for invoicing clients. I also haven't been able to get Stripe working the way I need and on top of that, it costs more for me to use than PayPal.

“handles online intakes”
Pros
Being able to manage billing, take client credit card payments, handle online intakes and use the platform for reminder calls and texts has been really valuable.
Cons
The learning curve was steeper than I expected and clients can't update or change their credit card information on their own whenever they want.

“Cooperative support staff”
Pros
As I'm getting my private practice off the ground, it has handled all of my administrative needs in one place. The platform has been simple to navigate and anytime I've had a question or run into a problem, the support team has been incredibly helpful.
Cons
I'd really like to see a more mobile-friendly app because the calendar is pretty hard to use on my phone. It works really well on my computer but the phone experience could definitely be improved.

“Impressive number of features”
Pros
For the monthly price, it packs in an impressive number of features. The standout for me is being able to set up a fully virtual experience for potential patients which fits exactly what my demographic is looking for.
Cons
A few customization options aren't available but they're very specific limitations and not anything that really affects how I use it.

“Still learning”
Pros
Right from the start, it has been very user-friendly and I'm still in the process of learning how everything works.
Cons
I've only just started using it so I'll have a better sense of any drawbacks once I've spent more time with it.

“private practice made possible”
Pros
Having this software in place is what really allowed me to launch my private practice. It took away a lot of the stress and uncertainty I had about handling all the behind-the-scenes work.
Cons
The only downside is that the scheduling widget isn't compatible with Wix.

“Offers more functionality compared with other tools”
Pros
Compared with other tools I tested, this one offers a lot more functionality. The integrations with other software work well, the calendar sync options are solid and the layout is very simple to navigate. It also comes with an excellent selection of preloaded intake and assessment forms. The areas that are meant to be customized are simple to adjust.
Cons
Since I'm based outside the U.S. and Canada, there are still quite a few gaps in functionality around things like zip or postcodes, billing codes and similar details. It would also be much better if I could mute the functions or screens I don't use and create a more personalized in-program view.

“Practice management made effortless”
Pros
Switching to it has made running my practice feel much more organized. I no longer have to email or print stacks of intake forms for new clients and being able to handle consent forms and paperwork with just a few clicks is a huge relief. Notes are quicker to write, scheduling feels much simpler and the Google Calendar integration has been especially helpful. Billing is also clear and uncomplicated. I honestly have so many positive things to say about SimplePractice and only wish I had moved over to it earlier.
Cons
I'm still unsure about how well it handles group documentation since I'm planning to offer groups down the line.

“Saves a ton of time”
Pros
There's a lot this software gets right, patients can complete their paperwork remotely and even schedule on their own which saves a ton of time. It also helps me create detailed, professional office notes that I can confidently send to other doctors and the templates make the whole process much more manageable.
Cons
I really haven't run into any complaints, especially when I compare it with the software I used before.

“Gets easier to use with time”
Pros
Getting started with SP is pretty simple and after a little time learning the system, it becomes very user friendly. It offers a wide range of form options and helps organize your EHR process efficiently.
Cons
It doesn't offer a real person to speak with when issues come up around how certain functions work.

“amazing flexibility”
Pros
A colleague recently pointed me toward it and after subscribing, I can see why. The platform is user-friendly, simple to navigate and the short training videos are genuinely helpful. I also really appreciate how much flexibility there is to customize the system based on how you want to use it.
Cons
The percentage charged for credit and debit card payments through its online payment processing is higher than with other comparable card readers.
