“Simple scheduling
Pros
What I like most was how simple it made scheduling clients and the fact that I could jump from one note to another with a single click, which really saved me time and reduced friction during busy days.
Cons
I did miss several customization options I rely on like color-coding, the ability to set different billing rates per client, submitting forms electronically and I noticed there wasn't an online portal for clients to book or cancel appointments.

Pros
Over the past four years I have been using TherapyNotes regularly and in my experience the service is fantastic. Overall it consistently stands out as the best platform for managing therapy documentation.

Pros
As a clinician running a solo practice, I depend on TherapyNotes outstanding customer support. They make it easy for me to handle my own billing, maintain my EHR, schedule new clients, manage onboarding paperwork and take care of all the other practice tasks this platform is built to handle!

“Excellent value with amazing support
Pros
TherapyNotes offers excellent value. The cost is reasonable for its wide range of features, great reliability and level of support are amazing. As the support staff respond promptly, are knowledgeable and genuinely want to help. The interface is very user friendly, with everything organized sensibly and easy to find, even for new team members. In short the platform is comprehensive and keeps improving with regular updates that genuinely enhance everyday workflows. The client portal is easy for clients to use and they rarely report issues.
Cons
For the most part, technical problems have been very rare, which is impressive given how many features the system packs. And whenever I ran into something over the years, it got fixed fast or was placed in their review queue. Sometimes I wish new features appeared sooner but the thoroughness and quality of their updates usually justify the wait.

“Customer support went far beyond expected
Pros
My customer support representative went far beyond what I expected to resolve an issue I thought could not be fixed. I had spent hours toggling between TherapyNotes and Medicaid, completely baffled about why a payer wasn't reimbursing me. But the support team set aside extra time from an already full workload to troubleshoot with me and suggest practical solutions. They showed outstanding customer service, stayed calm and patient, listened with real empathy and didn't end the call until a clear plan was in place. Their level of support alone is a major reason I'll keep my subscription. And I sincerely hope the company recognizes and rewards them for this level of service. I really appreciate the help so thanks so much!
Cons
The only problem is that the monthly price goes up each year. As someone who renews an annual plan, I believe therapists who stick with the service year after year should receive some kind of financial incentive to renew their subscription.

“Extremely easy to use and reasonable price
Pros
As a solo practitioner running my private practice, I have found TherapyNotes extremely easy to use and set up. The price is reasonable too and the suite of features you get is surprisingly comprehensive for the cost. Their customer support stands out with short wait times, real people who are friendly and helpful and they consistently follow up whenever anything is needed.
Cons
I have not been dissatisfied with the product for my needs. Any small problems I've run into have been addressed promptly and more often than not the issue was due to user error on my end rather than a flaw in the software.

“Worked well but limited customization
Pros
For our team, TherapyNotes worked really well because it offered features like appointment scheduling and appointment note-taking. Plus I found the interface easy to use. It also supports filing insurance claims and gives a clear and concise billing overview.
Cons
While the application does a lot, several areas could be improved. Our team found that certain features could not be customized for specialized documentation which limited our workflows. The base pricing is affordable but paying extra to unlock other necessary functions felt inconvenient and added unexpected cost. The mobile app works for basic tasks, but to get a full overview and manage everything, I still needed to use the website making the app feel somewhat redundant and not very useful for complete on-the-go management.

“good UI but billing is chaotic
Pros
I liked the refreshed user interface. It looked great and made finding things pretty easy. Plus the system's structure helped me keep patient records organized and up to date.
Cons
We frequently ended up building our own forms and documentation since the platform is primarily geared toward Mental Health therapy, while our practice mainly offers Speech Therapy services. Then when we expanded to include another discipline called Occupational Therapy the billing processes became chaotic. It turned into a real challenge to maintain distinct, accurate accounting records for each discipline and keeping them separated and easy to track was especially hard.

Pros
It is very easy to use from both the clinician and client sides. Also it is budget-friendly which really helps a smaller practice like mine. Their support team was excellent too as they are always quick to respond and genuinely helpful.
Cons
What ultimately pushed me to switch platforms was a need for more customizable forms. “not really happy w the service!
Pros
The salesperson knew their stuff and that the product is dedicated solely to mental health. Plus it comes with a lot of handy features and I found the telehealth functionality, built-in credit card processing and the client portal especially appealing and thoughtfully designed.
Cons
What frustrated me was that they sold it to me at one price and then tried to change the pricing for supervisors afterward. I complained and they honored the original agreement briefly but before I'd even had it for thirty days, they raised all the prices and went back on their promise not to charge for supervisors. I have expressed my dissatisfaction and they apologized for the frustration, yet nothing has been restored. They sold me the software with certain fees and then altered everything within a month, which has left me very unhappy.

“quick record transfer
Pros
I loved how simple the setup process was. Transferring patient records from another EHR happened quickly, saving me a lot of time. The handy to-do list on the main screen guides you through every step so nothing gets missed and it keeps me organized each time I sign in. I also really like that telehealth is built right into the platform and the charting templates are easy to use. Also it is easy to upload documents and share them with patients which I do often. Their customer support stands out. As the team responds quickly, follows up to confirm things are working and even checked in personally to see how I was getting on. I was massively impressed by how fast they activated e-prescribing and EPCS as what other systems take weeks to do, they completed in under a week. They also helped me connect to my state's PMP. For those working in more than one office, the ability to add multiple locations is a really convenient and helpful feature.
Cons
The e-prescribing add-on is pricey. When I wrote this review it cost me $65 per month on top of the base EHR fee which feels steep compared with similar platforms. I wish they would offer a one-time setup fee for EPCS instead and reduce the ongoing prescribing charges to make it more affordable.

Cons

“constant performance issues
Pros
I really like the therapy note templates for documenting sessions. Charging copays to clients is also easy and I can pull intake details into charts without a problem. However much of the intake process is geared toward psychotherapy rather than being tailored for medication prescribers.
Cons
Medication-provider notes are limited to free-text fields, making standardized documentation difficult. Performance issues are a constant headache qw the system lags no matter my internet connection, even though I clear my browser history and cache daily. When I reached out to tech support, they insisted the slowdown was my connection which felt dismissive. Prescribing is especially frustrating. The prescriptions tab will vanish and reappear unpredictably and when it loads, it can take two to three minutes to become usable. If a prescription fails to send, there is no alert because the prescribing module doesn't sync with the therapy notes, so I can miss failed transmissions without realizing it.

Pros
Lately I cannot point to any positives at all. They have changed pretty much every feature they began with.
Cons
Honestly this whole thing feels like absolute garbage. For two days my eRx feature has not worked and when I try to get support I'm stuck in a queue that easily takes 45 to 60 minutes. The website has been glitching on and off for months and nobody has offered compensation or even a real apology for wasting our time. It used to be a great product when it first launched but now it feels like they've prioritized squeezing cash out of customers. So yes we are switching to another platform. I'm so disappointed. Pros
I have just seen secure messaging added and I find the customer support to be very helpful and quick whenever I need assistance.
Cons
Billing, billing, billing. Huh I'm constantly frustrated by the billing workflow because it's not user friendly at all. In my experience, the claim scrubbing lags behind what other platforms offer, so I end up jumping through too many hoops to fix errors. Also there is no option for secondary claim billing and feature rollouts feel slow. Secure messaging is fine but could use improvements. “Phenomenal customer service for ten years
Pros
I am using TherapyNotes for ten years and have not had a single negative experience in that time. Their customer service is phenomenal as they are quick and always providing thorough answers to any question I raise. That level of responsiveness was especially valuable when I opened my private practice and was using TN for the first time. Over the entire decade their support has remained excellent. Scheduling, the EMR, billing and accounting are so simple to use that practically anyone can handle them.
Cons
My only wish is that they would automatically move discontinued medications into a past medication trials section. That change would be really helpful, since I would not need to review my notes to figure out what I had prescribed in the past, especially when managing long-term clients.

“Poorly handled and damaged trust
Pros
Overall I have found the platform pretty easy to navigate and reasonably priced for what it offers. Every so often the telehealth feature will act up and stop working, which is frustrating when I am trying to run a session. I'm certain the issue lies with their system because I can simply leave and connect through Zoom or Psych Today without any trouble when that happens, so I know it is not my internet or my device causing the problem.
Cons
I have become increasingly frustrated with how it handled the Change Healthcare situation because it's made running a business much harder for providers like me. They waited too long to switch clearinghouses while other EHR companies were able to pivot in days or a week after the attack. It feels like their outdated coding and resistance to change prevented them from acting quickly. When I and others raised concerns about being charged our monthly fees while the platform didn't provide essential services we signed up for, the company refused to accept responsibility and seemed more interested in shutting down criticism than fixing the problem. I was even blocked from their Facebook group for calling attention to the issue, which felt like an attempt to silence legitimate user feedback. They keep assuring us they're working on restoring the ability to file claims through the platform, but after repeated promises there's still no real solution, while other software vendors have already resolved this and are processing claims. Meanwhile, TherapyNotes continues to collect subscription payments and individual providers are left struggling financially and operationally. That pattern has seriously damaged my trust in them.
