Fits my needs

Pros

Built specifically for behavioral health, this software fits the way I work really well. The interface is simple to handle and the AI features have been a big plus. I also appreciate being able to view my patients' other medications and get an estimated cost for prescriptions. It has helped me save a significant amount of time.

Cons

I really don't have any major complaints about it. If I had to point out one downside, it would be the cost since it is a bit on the expensive side.

essential part of my workflow

Pros

Being a strong note taker has never been my thing, going all the way back to school. Since opening my private practice, this EHR has been a really valuable part of my workflow for the past five years. The AI has been fantastic at capturing everything discussed, including small details I absolutely would have forgotten to document later. That's going to be especially valuable moving forward, particularly for prior authorizations which used to get held up because they were missing key information needed for approval.

Cons

I wish it had a student version to use alongside PMHNP precepts. There are occasional inconveniences here and there but they usually get addressed quickly.

Charting made efficient

Pros

Charting became more efficient and it fit well with the platform we were already using. It also feels forward-looking in the way it supports the workflow.

Cons

The note structure doesn't offer enough flexibility. Notes also tend to become overly detailed and wordy which increases the risk of including too much private patient information. Another downside is that dictation wasn't built into the design.

Great communication tools

Pros

Using it has been really simple for our team. The system is user-friendly, easy to manage and it helps our practice stay in touch through communication tools that actually work well. It also includes useful features for billing, client portals and messaging which makes daily tasks much more manageable. Our clients seem to be happy with it too and that has been a big plus.

Cons

Roughly once a year, we still run into a stretch of a few days when the system freezes or goes down for several hours. It has definitely gotten better over time and to be fair, that seems to be an issue with most EHR platforms. On the positive side, it remains accessible both inside and outside the practice.

Keeps everything connected

Pros

One of the biggest strengths of the this EHR suite is how well everything is connected. Clinical, billing and financial information all sit within the same system so it's much easier to get a clear view of operations, aging and overall performance without having to depend too much on outside reporting tools. Having everything integrated cuts down on data silos and helps teams track both operational and financial performance in real time.

Cons

There are still a few areas where end-user efficiency could be better. Patient identifiers could be more visible across different screens and workflows for handling credit balance resolution and refunds would benefit from being more consolidated. It would also help to have added functionality for manual posting especially the ability to balance at both the beginning and the end without having to restart if something is off. Telehealth features could also use further improvement.

proactive implementation support

Pros

A big reason I considered this EHR was the implementation side. Before moving forward, I met with the implementation team to go over the services they offer and that was the strongest selling point during my evaluation.

Cons

The system feels pretty minimal overall, with very few options to customize it. The app also doesn't work reliably for residents and its capabilities and functionality are extremely limited.

Reasonably priced

Pros

Its a very versatile system. The pricing is very reasonable so it feels like a solid value for the money. Customer support has also been helpful whenever I've needed assistance. I don't handle billing or payments so I can't really speak to that side of the product. I also really appreciate how secure the system is when it comes to storing sensitive information.

Cons

Honestly I don't have a specific least favorite part of it. It's user-friendly and the layout gives me the flexibility to be as detailed as I need to be.

comprehensive system

Pros

It covers just about everything a practice needs from day one and continues to support it over time. It handles general practice management well, including HIPAA compliance, security, confidentiality, scheduling, multiple documentation formats and options, telehealth, treatment planning, billing, payments, faxing and secure communication with both clients and staff. The newer AI tools also help make documentation more efficient while still keeping it secure, confidential and HIPAA compliant. Onboarding is especially helpful because a dedicated trainer walks new users through the system at the beginning which makes all the information in the Knowledge Base much easier to understand and put into practice. I also appreciate that the company listens to feedback from practitioners and users, responds to suggestions and keeps improving the platform with bug fixes and updates that make it more complete and user-friendly.

Cons

I do wish they offered access to a personal trainer whenever there is a major update since that kind of guidance would be really helpful during bigger changes. That said they do provide training sessions often so users still have opportunities to get up to speed. The cost has also been rising over time which can be tough for a practice but it still feels like solid value because the platform is so comprehensive and the staff stays responsive when issues or suggestions come up.

Reliable and packed with features

Pros

After using this EHR for about two years, I really haven't run into any problems with it. It handles a large amount of information well and is very user-friendly.

Cons

It includes so many features that it can take a while to learn everything it offers and figure out where to find certain tools, like treatment plan interventions.

Frustrating and poorly designed

Pros

Honestly if there were a way to give this zero stars, I would. There really isn't anything about this platform that I enjoy using. In 30 years of practice, this ranks near the very bottom of all the systems I've worked with.

Cons

Using this platform feels anything but user-friendly. It takes six separate clicks just to document a session, sign it and lock the note. On the treatment plan page, when entering goals, objectives and interventions, it keeps jumping back to the top of the page so you have to constantly pay attention to where you were and scroll back down to the correct section to keep entering information. The dashboard does something similar by reverting to its original view which means every time you leave and come back, you have to set your preferences all over again. On top of that, the screen is packed with too much information which makes it overwhelming to look at and tiring on the eyes after a while.

helpful tutorials

Pros

this tool keeps our workflow efficient and feels very user friendly overall. The tutorials were especially useful at the beginning while learning how to use the program.

Cons

A few parts of the treatment plan could be better. I wish it offered more options for goals and interventions.

Love using it

Pros

Managing everything with it has been very simple and I really haven't run into any issues. The part I enjoy most is how simple it is to use, I absolutely love using it.

Cons

Honestly I don't have any complaints about it. Anytime I have a question, the support team responds quickly, it's very manageable and the system has been consistently reliable without going down.

all-in-one platform we love

Pros

After 14 years with Valant, it still works really well for our practice. We moved over from EPIC when we opened a private practice and it felt very familiar which made the transition much easier. I really appreciate that it's a true all-in-one system. Telehealth, billing and other core functions are all handled in one place. The patient experience has been excellent too, our patients really like the billing process and invoicing tools. The outcome measure library is another big plus. It's simple to send forms through the portal, have patients complete them and then the system automatically scores them and pulls the results into the notes. Being able to send measures or other content through the portal and have it flow right into the documentation really helps organize our workflow. Our younger patient population especially enjoys the mobile portal app because it's convenient for completing paperwork and joining telehealth sessions.

Cons

It does roll out a lot of helpful updates and changes and most of them are genuinely useful. The only challenge is that sometimes everything moves a little too quickly. We usually catch up and learn the new features but if something gets missed, it's easy to fall behind on what the system is now capable of doing.

User-friendly product

Pros

Using it has been very simple and the platform feels really user friendly overall. The behavioral health-specific prompts are especially helpful for our industry and that has been a very nice part of the experience.

Cons

I'd just like customer service to be a little more responsive. At times solo providers seem to get pushed farther down the line so that part could definitely be improved a bit more.

Tailored for my practice

Pros

Right from the start, it feels customized to me and the way my practice runs. The system is very organized and simple to use and as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, I can say it really fits the needs of my field.

Cons

It is a bit on the expensive side. That said having features that actually work well for prescribers matters so the cost feels justified.

efficient and secure assessments

Pros

Handling diagnostic intake electronically has been a very efficient way to complete thorough assessments. Patients just sign in to the portal and fill everything out there and providers can review the results before the appointment even starts. That saves time, keeps the process organized and it's also secure and confidential.

Cons

The biggest downside for a small practice like mine is the cost. That said I still feel the fee is worth paying since I've continued using their services.

Cooperative support staff

Pros

Its so easy to use. The tutorial videos are useful and the customer service team has been even more helpful when I've needed support. They've also built in some really handy shortcuts that save me time. I especially appreciate the tasks on the Dashboard since that extra layer of accountability is something I really need. I've also noticed the system is being updated regularly which I really value. They seem to listen to feedback and the changes they make have been genuinely helpful.

Cons

The AWS connection wasn't something I was aware of until the outage happened. That raised some concerns for me especially since being part of one of the three biggest cloud platforms could potentially make it a bigger target for security breaches. I'd really like more clarity on what's being done to keep us protected going forward. I also wonder whether it would be possible to make the appointment calendar available offline, just an idea.

Top-notch customer service

Pros

It has been user-friendly to use. The customer support team has been wonderful and I really appreciate that it's built specifically for behavioral health. They also keep rolling out new features that help both providers and clients which has made the platform even more useful over time.

Cons

Lately though, it has been going down and acting glitchy more often which has been frustrating for our team and takes extra time to deal with the impact on clients. I also really wish paying the bill were more convenient, please add an eCheck option.

constant outages and lost revenue

Pros

Being able to submit billing directly through the system to the clearinghouse is convenient even though some diagnoses still get rejected by the clearinghouse.

Cons

After using this system for the psychiatry side of our mental health practice for the past ten years, I can honestly say it has cost us tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue. Choosing it has been the biggest regret of my career. The platform goes down during business hours far too often sometimes for hours at a time, like from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on a Monday and when that happens, you cannot even pull up the schedule. That means no booking appointments, no access to the day's patient list, no prescribing medications and no checking patients in or out. Even worse, there is basically no customer support available when this happens. Because the outages and severe lag became so frequent, we were eventually given the number of a liaison to contact but that person never seems to know what is happening, has never really been helpful and only occasionally responds to emails. The system crashes or becomes unusable nearly every week or two. On top of that, medication prescribing in this EMR is extremely clunky. The process is repetitive and forces you to open what feels like ten different windows just to send a prescription to a pharmacy. The mobile notes feature is awkward and complex too.

Simple to get the hang of

Pros

Using it felt very simple and while I was learning the system, the layout made it much simpler to understand how to move through the different pages.

Cons

The biggest frustration is how often the site goes down for something we rely on for charting. When it needs to be available and running, there are just too many interruptions and complications.
