simple timecards and recruiting

Pros

Using this platform day to day has been a really positive experience. The time card feature is very simple to work with and employees can find their way around it quickly and efficiently. On the employee management side, it offers strong value for the cost and the reporting tools help us pull what we need for our compliance agencies. As an HR Director, I use it every day for recruiting and I have been very happy with both the main platform and the onboarding tools.

Cons

There was a bit of a learning curve when it came to setting up some of the tasks within the onboarding and recruiting modules, although I was eventually able to work through them. The one time I got stuck, I reached out to customer support and joined a Teams call to get help.

user-friendly platform with strong training

Pros

Right away, Paylocity feels very user friendly and the training resources are really well done. It's also helpful that they keep up with constantly changing employment laws which takes a lot of pressure off. Another big plus is that they continue improving and enhancing the product over time.

Cons

One area that could be better is customer service since it isn't especially outstanding. The reporting system can also be inconsistent at times so reports often need to be double-checked to make sure the information is accurate.

Helpful support every time

Pros

Whenever I need help, customer support is usually very accessible and I can almost always get someone on the phone without much trouble. The people I speak with are friendly and most of them really know what they're talking about.

Cons

There are still a few system issues that need attention especially around accrual rates and policies. At times, certain employees' PTO does not transfer correctly into payroll. I also think the reporting could be improved because finding specific reports can be frustrating and the search function needs to be more user-friendly like hopefully AI can help with that in the future. The onboarding process could be more organized as well and the performance appraisal feature would be stronger if it included a 360 review option. I do appreciate the training resources they offer but adding more training specifically for supervisors and leaders would be a valuable improvement.

fragmented system and endless hassles

Pros

The time clock used to be one of the better parts of the system because it was simple to use but the latest update has made even that more frustrating than helpful.

Cons

Having employee information scattered across different areas is a huge frustration. I don't understand why some details are in HR & Payroll while other things are in Time & Labor instead of having one place where all employee information can be viewed at once, while still keeping it in the other sections if needed. The same issue comes up with User Account changes too. If I search for an employee in HR & Payroll, it would make much more sense to be able to update things like passwords there instead of having to jump to a completely separate User Accounts tab. It feels unnecessarily split up. Another ongoing problem is the constant layout changes. Every few weeks it seems like tabs get moved, features are no longer where they used to be or the whole setup is adjusted again. It's frustrating to keep re-learning a system that gets used every day. On top of that the site constantly reloads pages or logs people out even while they're actively using it which is incredibly annoying and often means redoing work and wasting admin time. The Recruiting tab is also very difficult to work with and not user-friendly at all. An interface more like Indeed would make a lot more sense. Customer support has also been consistently disappointing. The reps often seem unsure of the answers and I have never had a support call take less than 30 minutes because so much of the time is spent waiting on hold while they try to figure things out. Email support is even worse, with response times often taking weeks even after follow-ups. At this point I'd rather sit on hold than have a ticket created because at least that might get resolved sooner. There are also smaller but constant workflow issues that create unnecessary extra steps. In HR & Payroll, when using the check calculator and searching for an employee, the system frequently says no employee was found. Then the workaround is to search for the employee first and manually go to Pay > Checks > Check Calculator just to cut a check. It's little problems like that over and over again that create so much unnecessary runaround. Even the AI assistant isn't useful since it often repeats itself and doesn't really understand the question being asked. The onboarding process has similar gaps. When bringing on a new hire, there's nowhere in onboarding to add the employee to a group or schedule template which just creates another thing to remember after finishing the onboarding steps. That feels like something that should obviously be built into the process. The same goes for having yet another separate tab to launch an Event Packet. Once again, it seems like things are divided across multiple screens for no clear reason instead of being kept together in one organized place. Overall the whole system feels unnecessarily fragmented and full of avoidable frustrations.

A helpful portal

Pros

One of the best parts of Paylocity is how flexible and wide-ranging the modules are and a lot of them can be customized to fit what we need. I especially enjoy the onboarding tools, data analytics, review and journal features, along with Impression, Community and Marketplace. The portal is also very user-friendly which makes things simpler for staff as well.

Cons

At times, it can be challenging to reach the right level of support when dealing with more complex payroll issues. That said our newly assigned representative has been a strong advocate and is helping make sure our needs are properly addressed.

powerful reporting that delivers

Pros

One of the strongest parts of Paylocity is its reporting platform. It makes payroll reviews and ongoing audits much more efficient and improves the overall process quite a bit. I am hoping the shift toward using only the report writer tool still keeps the same level of flexibility and accuracy I have come to rely on from its dynamic reporting.

Cons

Support could definitely be better especially when it comes to response time and help with tax-related issues. That said after working with a number of other systems, I'd still say Paylocity is fairly comparable in this area.

reliable support and full HR coverage

Pros

the best parts of Paylocity is the level of support they provide. It serves as a comprehensive HRIS for our company and we rely on a wide range of its features across different areas of the business.

Cons

Pricing does feel a bit on the higher side. I also think the expense management piece could use some improvement especially since submitting expenses is not as convenient as I would like.

Affordable platform with helpful setup

Pros

it has been very user-friendly overall for our team. We ended up paying less than we were before for a system that works better for us which was a big win. Another thing I like is that they do not hit you with constant extra charges. The implementation process was simple too and having a dedicated team made everything much simpler.

Cons

The training side of things could still be a bit more user friendly. There are also times when emails come in from different representatives and it is not always clear who they are since they are not the original rep we started with.

user-friendly payroll and reporting

Pros

Right away, Paylocity is very user-friendly. The modules work well together which makes everything much more connected and efficient. Payroll is simple to run through batches and the reporting tools are also basic while still offering plenty of functionality. Time & Labor is also easy to set up and manage. On top of that our Executive Account Manager and the rest of the team have been extremely helpful.

Cons

One thing I would really like to see is a visible ticket-tracking system instead of having to depend on our EAM to build one separately through a Monday board or an Excel spreadsheet.

responsive support

Pros

One thing that has really stood out with Paylocity is the level of customer service. I am able to get in touch with someone whenever I need help even if my usual account rep isn't available. Email responses come back very quickly which makes a big difference. On top of that the pricing is a really good value compared with other payroll providers and comes in lower than many competitors.

Cons

Honestly there isn't much to complain about with Paylocity. The only frustration has been the turnover among customer service account reps which can be a hassle at times, as it is with most companies. That said when we haven't been satisfied with the rep assigned to us, management has responded quickly and reassigned us to someone else when needed.

outstanding implementation and support

Pros

Switching to Paylocity was a fantastic experience. Compared with our previous provider, the implementation turnaround was nearly half the time which made a huge difference. Their team was knowledgeable, quick and very attentive whenever I had questions and they made sure everything was answered clearly. I have been so pleased with the service that I recommend Paylocity to all of my clients as well.

Cons

At this point I really have not come across anything I dislike about Paylocity. Whenever I need help, my service team responds quickly and keeps things moving.

payroll that saves time

Pros

Using Paylocity has been an excellent experience for us. The platform is user-friendly, accurate and efficient and their customer service team is consistently responsive and knowledgeable. It has made our payroll process reliable and much more manageable and I would absolutely recommend it. It's worth every penny. I spend far less time handling payroll now which gives me more time to focus on higher-priority work.

Cons

One area that could be better is the PTO tracking system. It can be hard to understand at times especially with the time-off projections turned on which seems to create confusion for employees.

all-in-one HR powerhouse

Pros

Paylocity covers just about everything I need for HR in one place. It handles payroll, compensation, LMS, time and labor, benefits and even includes applicant tracking and onboarding so it really feels like a complete, all-in-one solution.

Cons

There are times when communication falls short especially if there's an outage or a module isn't working the way it should. In those situations, updates are not always sent out.

comprehensive HR/payroll win

Pros

Right away, Paylocity recognized the gaps and frustrations we had with our previous payroll provider. The HR and payroll package they offer feels complete, well-rounded and simple to navigate. Since my responsibilities cover HR, benefits, payroll, employee training, background checks, compliance and more, it helped me get comfortable with the system quickly. One thing I really like is their excellent technical support as I can reach a live U.S.-based representative instead of being pushed toward a chatbot or a self-service article.

Cons

Getting started is fairly easy but reporting can take some time to learn because there are so many report options and variations. Payroll processing was also a little confusing in the beginning, mainly because there are more steps than I expected, though it does become more manageable with experience.

responsive support & clear answers

Pros

One thing I really appreciate is the customer support. The team replies quickly and gives clear, direct answers to the questions we send in. Even when an issue cannot be fixed right away, they still explain why and provide context instead of leaving us guessing. If something is not possible at the moment, they at least note it as a potential enhancement for the future.

Cons

There are still a few changes we would like to see in certain features especially around recruiting reports. For example, we need reporting that combines both internal and external hires into one total for a selected time period. Right now, Data Insights only accounts for external hires in that way. Although a total number is available, it does not separate internal and external hires clearly. Since these updates are still pending as enhancements, we cannot get that functionality added yet. Because we are trying to automate more of our processes, not having these features means we still have to rely on manual work.

excellent interface and reporting

Pros

The user interface is excellent and information is very simple to locate and access whenever needed. The reporting tools are also really well done and I especially like the way the reports are formatted. On top of that customer support has been very helpful whenever questions come up and they do a good job of directing me to useful reference materials in PEAK.

Cons

One thing that would really help is having the ability to impersonate employees. That would make troubleshooting much easier on our side and allow us to resolve more issues internally.

solid payroll workflow

Pros

Running payroll with Paylocity is fairly easy, with a user friendly step by step flow that helps cut down on mistakes or missed details. It also includes plenty of additional tools for things like benefits, time and labor, time-off scheduling and learning, although the core payroll functions are what we rely on most.

Cons

Even though it comes with a wide range of features, there is not much flexibility if your internal processes do not match the way the system was built. Customer support is also pretty inconsistent. It feels like a 50/50 chance that the person you reach will have enough knowledge to actually resolve the issue. They do offer a large library of guides but finding the right one can be difficult because the search function is not always helpful.

favorite payroll and hr platform

Pros

Right from the start, Paylocity felt very easy to use. You definitely don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out how the modules work. I have worked with plenty of other systems over the years and this one has easily become my favorite payroll and HR program.

Cons

No HR or payroll system is ever completely perfect and Paylocity is no exception. Still, the thing that really sets them apart is their customer service. They actually answer the phone, respond quickly and help fix issues fast so you can keep things moving.

fantastic onboarding support

Pros

Switching from ADP to Paylocity was a big step for Visium Resources especially since we're a staffing company and our business depends on paying employees accurately with as few issues as possible. Even with all the challenges that come with a transition like that, the move went very well. The part I appreciated most was the customer service, who really guided us every step of the way during onboarding and through those first few weeks of implementation. I mean they were absolutely awesome.

Cons

The only downside was also understandable in a way and that was the seemingly endless number of meetings during Visium's onboarding process. At the same time, I get why they were necessary because good communication is the only way to make a transition go well. There were just so many meetings that it started to get hard to keep track of who we were supposed to meet with next and we unfortunately missed a couple which caused some inconvenience for the Paylocity trainers. We did get scolded a bit but we've rescheduled and hopefully we'll continue learning everything we need to know about the system.
