Powerful HR coverage and value

Pros

Paylocity covers just about every part of HR and payroll so it is like a very comprehensive platform. The time tracking tools are also easy to use and overall it offers great value for the price.

Cons

Because the platform is so expansive, it can feel like more than a small company really needs. With so many areas and features included, it's sometimes hard to remember exactly where to go to enter certain information and a lot of the functionality ends up unused. My experience with the tax department also hasn't been very good. Rather than really listening to the issue and helping resolve the tax filing problem, I keep getting repetitive responses about things I already understand and being told it has been fixed when it actually hasn't.

flexible platform with room to grow

Pros

We've been using Paylocity since 2017 and it has continued to grow alongside our company, giving us more and more functionality within one system instead of needing separate tools.

Cons

The Performance Review module gets the job done but it isn't especially advanced. We've also had quite a few times where we called with questions and the support agent couldn't solve the issue on the first contact. Staff turnover seems to be affecting that as well, although that's a common problem in a lot of places.

smooth reporting tools

Pros

Most of the reports are easy to use. The dynamic reports can be arranged however you need which makes them very flexible. The report writer is helpful too, although it can get a bit complicated.

Cons

The time card doesn't stay balanced. Even after it's locked, it still changes. I can print a time card on Tuesday, then check it again on Wednesday and it shows something different. Employees are supposed to be paid 8/80 for overtime but I have had several cases where it switches to 88 regular hours when the maximum should be 80.

integrated modules and strong reporting

Pros

One of the biggest advantages is the value for the price especially considering it includes the features we rely on most. The modules work well together, the EDI and integration options are useful and our employees really enjoy the Expense module. The reporting tools are also something I genuinely appreciate.

Cons

Where it falls short is with the turnover of account managers and the inconsistency in their experience level. I expect our account manager to be better trained and more knowledgeable than I am and to guide me on things I may not already know. They should be the expert, including understanding the full downstream impact of any change. It's also frustrating how many limitations admins have when trying to make configuration changes.

simple platform with helpful training

Pros

Paylocity has been a very user friendly system for our staff and supervisors and it hasn't taken much training to get people comfortable using it. Being able to share their videos and articles with employees has also been really helpful since it took the pressure off our team from having to build our own walkthrough materials.

Cons

There's a lot of ongoing development which is a positive overall but it does sometimes create hiccups that have to be worked through. At times, the updates don't seem to be communicated clearly or a change ends up causing downstream effects that Paylocity may not have fully anticipated yet. That said this tends to happen with systems like this.

good support and strong value

Pros

One thing that has really stood out is how helpful the customer support team has been and the wait time is usually very short. It also offers great value especially since the price is lower than many competing options.

Cons

A few areas are harder to customize than we would like for our specific needs. Also the reporting section is also not very user friendly and we have run into some glitches from time to time, although customer support has been able to help resolve them.

strong compliance

Pros

something that really works well with Paylocity is how much it can be customized to fit your company and its specific needs. Whenever there's something you want added or adjusted, you can work directly with your assigned Paylocity team member to make it happen. I also appreciate that if a feature doesn't fit into the budget during the first phase, it can still be added later as the system grows alongside the company. My favorite part is the time tracking compliance tools especially the geo-location feature and the ability to audit entries and add notes.

Cons

It really depends on how you view it but there are a lot of different ways to complete tasks in the system so each team tends to handle things in the way that works best for them.

impeccable support and flexible modules

Pros

Using Paylocity has been very stress free and their customer support has been impeccable whenever help is needed. Another big plus is the number of add-on modules available which gives a lot of flexibility.

Cons

One issue is that the Time & Labor module and the HR & Payroll module do not always work together as well as they should. At times, important details end up being left out.

All-in-one HR powerhouse

Pros

Having time tracking and HR information connected in one system has been a huge benefit. It's really helpful to keep all employee data in one place while still using separate modules for different reporting needs. The core setup already adds a lot of value and the more advanced tools especially LMS plus Skills and Certifications, make it even more useful. The Onboarding module has also cut down the time it takes to process our large number of seasonal hires by a significant amount.

Cons

There's definitely a steep learning curve and it becomes challenging if the data isn't set up properly from the start. Once things are entered incorrectly during implementation, fixing them afterward can be a real headache. One of Paylocity's strengths is how well it standardizes things like cost centers, pay bands, job titles and position codes. At the same time, that structure can become a drawback if those standards aren't already established or entered correctly because sorting it out later gets confusing fast.

simple tools and organized access

Pros

Working with Paylocity has been a really positive experience. The system is user friendly, simple to navigate and helps keep everyday tasks moving along efficiently. I especially like that employees can find everything they need in one place, whether that's pay stubs, benefits or other important information, without having to reach out for extra assistance. Overall it's a dependable platform that keeps things organized and user-friendly for both HR teams and employees.

Cons

The part I am least happy with in it is the new HOME experience. Time Off has become more difficult for team members to locate and it doesn't feel as accessible as it did in the previous Self-Service layout. Since it was moved into Time & Labor, it has caused confusion for a lot of employees and disrupted a process that used to be much more simple.

helpful updates

Pros

Getting started with the software is pretty easy and whenever questions come up, it's clear where to go for answers. The customer service team has also been really helpful and reliable.

Cons

Accessing more reports and building new ones when needed can be pretty challenging and it usually takes help from a representative to get it done. It's not always the most user-friendly part of the system, although the recent changes have definitely been moving things in a better direction.

customizable tools, unmet promises

Pros

One thing that worked well was being able to add more detail, improve transparency and adjust the platform so it matched our needs better. The time tracking features and team member details are laid out in a way that keeps it practical to use and does a good job of showing the information clearly.

Cons

A big frustration has been that we still have not gotten what was originally promised. Customer support has been friendly and responsive but they have not been able to fix some of the ongoing issues and that falls short of the key reasons we decided to switch in the first place.

favorite time tracking platform

Pros

Having used Paylocity at two different companies, it's still my preferred time tracking system out of all the ones I have worked with. The platform is user-friendly and I really appreciate having a dedicated customer support team available when needed.

Cons

After moving from my previous employer to my current one, I also had to switch over to a different support team. The quality of service hasn't gone down at all but I do miss working with the former team.

excellent value for mid-size teams

Pros

Paylocity delivers excellent value for the price and works especially well for medium-sized organizations. We've been very happy with it.

Cons

It does have a few limitations that other providers, such as Paycor, don't. One of the biggest gaps is the inability to add agencies to the recruiting process so they can submit candidates directly into the pipeline for review while still maintaining updated metrics.

All-in-one HR tools

Pros

Having it has really cut down the need for a separate HR tech stack. Each HR function has its own dedicated portal and managing employees is simple with the Onboarding, HR & Payroll and Performance modules. For a small business, it includes the key features you'd want all in one place.

Cons

There are two downsides I have run into with Paylocity. One is that the Timekeeping system isn't approved for government contracting timecards. The other is that the mobile app still doesn't let me handle every administrative task.

versatile HR tools that deliver

Pros

Right away the platform looks user friendly and simple to navigate which makes day to day tasks much easier. It comes with a broad set of tools that help organize HR work and one of the biggest advantages is how customizable many of the modules are. Another plus is the strong support resources Paylocity offers which helps a lot when troubleshooting problems or getting up to speed on new features. Overall it's a helpful system for boosting efficiency and creating a better employee experience.

Cons

At first some parts of the system can seem more complicated than expected and a few modules take extra steps or manual workarounds to achieve the outcome you want. Reporting can feel somewhat complex too, depending on the type of report you're trying to create. That said most of these issues become manageable with practice or by using support. I also do not like that Carbon does not make it very convenient to test certain things.

constant upgrades and clear updates

Pros

Paylocity keeps getting better over time. The software is regularly updated and they do a really nice job of keeping us in the loop about what's coming next.

Cons

One thing I do appreciate is having a consistent point of contact but when employees get promoted, it sometimes means I have to get used to working with a new service representative.

Payroll processing made simple

Pros

Using Paylocity is very user-friendly and it's impressive how much can be handled within a single system. I especially love how simple payroll processing is, with the platform guiding you through each step along the way.

Cons

One frustrating part is that it can sometimes be hard to locate instructions in the knowledge base. You really have to use the exact right keywords to find what you need.

fast payroll and simple reporting

Pros

The reporting module is very easy to use which has been a big plus. Payroll also moves along quickly and the implementation process was a breeze compared with another HRIS we had before.

Cons

Customer service has not been the strongest part of the experience. It took a lot of repeated complaints before I was finally connected with a manager who actually follows through and works on solutions instead of brushing things off.

smooth data integration

Pros

Getting our information into it was really easy. We just sent over the data they needed and their team handled the integration without any issues which made the whole process feel very enjoyable.

Cons

The biggest downside was how much training was required. On top of that using the help button can turn into a bit of a hunt-and-peck process when you're trying to track down a clear answer.
