“Better Learning Tool Out There

Pros

Opting for Blackboard as the course hosting platform surpasses other alternatives. It aids in class management allowing multiple users to collaboratively contribute. Seamless integration with Zoom proves essential simplifying maintenance for both teacher assistants and professors in large classes.

Cons

So many features could be improved. We now use Canvas and prefer that to Blackboard Learn. Need more integration and more improvements on the mobile app.

Blackboard offers an easy learning curve and intuitive functionality suitable for various teaching styles. It effectively coordinates large teams or classes accommodating diverse teaching methods such as group discussions online learning and multimedia attachments.

My concerns with Blackboard are at the philosophical level. From the way it is systematically set up you can tell that it uses some outdated methods of teaching. Use as a student can feel oppressive with students too easily shut down and overruled and the general aesthetic vibe being a bit darker and more confined than examples such as Canvas.

It was difficult to learn once you open the program and there is not a tutorial or walkthrough for the overall site. You have to explore on your own and it can be tough.

There is nothing I do not like about the software.

Many bugs this essentially is not Blackboard fault but is their platform they should add more support tools for programmers. Also I don't like so many optiones to mange a course is confusing for teachers and learners.

Utilized during college Blackboard served well but a subsequent shift to a home-grown system raises questions about its cost-effectiveness and customization capabilities.

Blackboard seemed a little overly simple or childish. Maybe it was the design or graphics? But the layout was clear and easy to understand.

The discussion threads I'd suggest needs to be looked into it gets quite difficult trying to navigate between replying to the current thread or an older one.

With it being said that it is a fairly simple software (in nearly every aspect) somehow those features don't work the greatest most of the time and the app was even worse

Blackboard offers many tools to educators but perhaps too many. The interface is heavy. I would appreciate it if it could be more intuitive and clean.

“A Good Software but Needs Updating

Pros

Blackboard facilitated easy access to assignments grades and essential announcements during college. The platform's navigability and the centralized "Announcements" board were particularly useful.

Cons

Blackboard has many features but I was not able to take full advantage of them because of how the platform itself looked. The Blackboard platform especially the black bar on the left hand side was always confusing and the site itself looked pretty old. When my university actually switched over to Canvas students missed the layout of Blackboard but not the actual software which looked like it was several years old. If the actual interface looked better I think it would be easier to navigate.

As a tool for communication material distribution and grade recording Blackboard's comprehensive features prove valuable for professors and students. The SafeAssign plagiarism-checking feature is especially praised.

Cons

For me Blackboard wasn't intuitive to learn. Even after 7 years of using it nearly ever day during the semester I had some challenges making it do what I wanted it to do. I often spent far more time than I should have trying to customize things for my courses. But as long as I stuck to the basic features -- which are also the ones I personally found most useful/beneficial -- Blackboard was a great tool for organizing my courses and keeping students on track.

While teaching college courses Blackboard simplified hosting sharing course material and enabled mobile access but a subsequent shift to Canvas prompted a change.

My least favorite thing about Blackboard was that the file uploader is Java-based.

Recent updates have significantly enhanced Blackboard's usability making tasks such as assigning assignments and providing feedback simpler. The integration with other apps is also beneficial for presentations and collaborative tools.

An update to the mobile app is still in order. There is a lot of work to be done on this project. On the web the user experience was much better.

It is boring. There is nothing that really sets it apart from other LMSs. I would like to see it incorporate other features or links and/or pictures. Teachers can add these things but it takes a lot of time and effort. I think it has room to grow.

As an adjunct English professor Blackboard facilitated grade input rubric creation and posting of class materials effectively meeting virtually all essential needs.

Posting grades could have been more seamless . The email feature also could have been more user-friendly.

Blackboard Learn impresses with its comprehensive and reliable features providing a centralized hub for tracking courses appointments assignments and communication with teachers.

What I like the least about this software is the User Interface (UI) as I consider the navigability could be better and the features could yet be more accessible and easier to use. Other than that I don't have any other "complaints" about Blackboard Learn. I may mention that in the beginning of the pandemic with the introduction of online classes this software was a life-saver and my institution needed to contact the support team who was very responsive and agile to solve all the issues at that time.
