affordable newsletters for small teams

Pros

Running newsletters with this has been a really good fit for our small business. We only send about 2-3 emails each month and the tier-based pricing works well since it depends on subscriber count. When we were just getting started and had a small list, the cost made a lot of sense for a new company. It also comes with a great variety of templates that are simple to complete without needing to code or use HTML though that option is available too if you want it.

Cons

The biggest limitation is the lack of deeper customization. You can work from their templates and add your own images and text but there still aren't that many options when it comes to customizing the overall design.

fantastic plug-and-play email software

Pros

Right out of the gate, this email program is very simple to use and pretty much plug-and-play. You don't need to know HTML to work with it even though that can still come in handy sometimes. It helps my team keep up with our marketing efforts by letting us build reusable templates, customize layouts, use a basic gallery and even make small photo edits directly inside the platform.

Cons

Every now and then, the spacing ends up looking a little off and there isn't a clear way to correct it. Other than that, it's a really great email client.

Simple interface and strong analytics

Pros

The interface is really user-friendly and doesn't feel too technical which makes it simple for everyone on my team to work with, from graphic designers to copywriters. We've also gotten a lot of value from the campaign segmentation features and the reporting analytics it offers.

Cons

Building custom HTML templates felt more easy before and customizing the design of the pre-built templates can be challenging.

quick setup and simple signup

Pros

Getting started was the best part for me. In about 30 minutes, I had everything set up and had already created my first email campaign to send out. Adding new users is easy too which makes the whole process even better.

Cons

One thing that still frustrates me is the lack of real customer support. I'd prefer to have my questions handled in a single call but most of the time it turns into a long back-and-forth over email and I haven't been able to reach someone by phone.

fantastic templates and integrations

Pros

Interface and navigation have been excellent. It connects with plenty of other tools which makes it really convenient to pull in my subscriber lists, campaigns, email templates and more. The template library is also fantastic and honestly takes care of a big part of the work for me. I've been using it for over three years now.

Cons

One thing that could be improved is the accessibility of the help section. When I first started, it was a bit confusing to understand the difference between "automation" and "campaign."

Convenient email marketing tools

Pros

Using email marketing feels very easy with this platform. Everything is laid out in a way that makes the features simple to find and the overall design is simple to work with. The mailing statistics are especially impressive and the email builder is excellent as well.

Cons

Once your usage grows and the cost starts adding up, the return on investment becomes harder to justify. If you're already working with an advanced CRM like HubSpot, this tool doesn't really add much extra functionality. When it's mainly being used for email marketing, whether automated or not, along with landing pages and you already have a modern CRM in place, the added value ends up being fairly limited.

powerful campaigns and survey tools

Pros

It comes with a complete set of features for handling bulk email sends, marketing campaigns, special promotions and form creation for surveys, plus built-in analysis tools to help process the results.

Cons

Pricing runs a bit high and it lacks more advanced automation options even in many of the higher-tier plans so it may not be the best fit for smaller businesses.

mailing list merge convenience

Pros

Being able to merge mailing lists quickly is a huge plus and it saves me from the hassle of creating one myself or requesting it through the university's listservs. The platform is very user-friendly which makes the whole process even better.

Cons

One downside is that it requires an internet connection to work. Also some features are pretty pricey and aren't included for free.

clean design and reliable platform

Pros

Using this has been refreshingly easy. It's simple to navigate and pretty much impossible to mess up. On the platform I used before, glitches kept happening and I had to rewrite my work over and over but that hasn't happened here even once. On top of that, it looks really polished.

Cons

I don't have any complaints. The whole thing is user-friendly, visually appealing and works especially well for individuals and small businesses.

months wasted on setup

Pros

One thing I did appreciate was the Canva integration since that's a tool I use all the time and the caption style feels cute and approachable. It also pushed me to learn things I knew nothing about before, like what an API is and how to add code on the backend of my domain and website. I use Squarespace and once I finally got everything connected which took me several weeks because I first had to understand what any of it meant, the popup form actually looked really nice. Moving my contacts over from Constant Contact was easy too and I'm hoping getting them back out would be just as easy.

Cons

At this point, I've spent an unbelievable amount of time trying to get this software to work for me. I really wanted it to especially because the ads make the emails look so polished and appealing. At first I assumed the problem was me and that I just needed more practice since I'm not a marketer and expected there would be a learning curve. Still, I had used Constant Contact for years and that felt much more manageable so I honestly thought this would be an upgrade. I joined the webinars, watched the tutorials, read the help docs, then read them all over again, added code through GoDaddy and inserted API information into Squarespace. Then something apparently broke because of Outlook. I never got to the bottom of it and eventually switched to another email provider. I also lost an entire weekend literally trying to merge audiences and make sense of tags, segments and groups. And having to add yet another API to my site's backend just to remove a checkbox? That was beyond frustrating. I'm a dental hygienist, not a developer. After 6 months of effort, I've sent exactly 0 email campaigns and it's definitely not because I didn't try.

versatile editor with standout integrations

Pros

Coming from web development, this platform makes it really simple to turn HTML email templates into polished campaigns using its manageable editor and content blocks. I can also build landing pages for campaigns in no time which is a huge plus. The number of integrations is impressive too, covering everything from Shopify and Magento to WordPress.

Cons

Aside from maybe offering a desktop app, I honestly can't point to any real downside. It's such a useful and budget-friendly tool that there's very little to criticize.

simple campaigns and useful segments

Pros

Setting up campaigns with this software feels very easy and the overall simplicity is something I really appreciate. It's easy to use and the segmentation feature is especially helpful because it gives retailers a clearer picture of how customers are engaging with their email lists.

Cons

Its biggest downside, in my opinion, is the lack of compatibility with major e-commerce platforms like Shopify.

powerful campaign tracking

Pros

Having campaign creation tools readily available is a big plus and keeping track of performance while analyzing results is also very easy.

Cons

Out of all the features it offers for solving email marketing needs, the CRM part is the one that feels the least impressive to me. It seems like it still has room for improvement.

Amazing email automation features

Pros

After trying plenty of marketing platforms for customer email campaigns, this one stands out as one of the better automation tools I've used. It does more than just handle sign-up forms, it also includes really useful features like abandoned cart emails that go straight to customers which can help increase sales. On top of that, you can target specific customers with special offers and discount codes making it a strong option for driving more purchases in your business.

Cons

Getting certain parts connected to an online store can take some work and you may need to spend time going through the documentation. If you don't have a developer background, the setup can feel a little difficult to follow at first. That said there are plenty of tutorials available along with a helpful community so it's still possible to get everything configured properly with some guidance.

Great free plan for growing lists

Pros

The free plan has been really useful for us since it lets us reach our first 2,000 subscribers and send up to 12,000 emails. Building lists and importing subscribers from our own web portals into the platform is also a easy process.

Cons

The automation side is a bit confusing especially when setting up workflows and it doesn't feel very user-friendly. When it comes to automation in email marketing, it's not the most simple tool to work with.

flexible campaigns and free plan

Pros

Sending out a campaign with this platform is really easy. It still has a free option which makes it easy to test out and keep using until your business grows enough to need an upgrade. I also use it with my clients and they can share their login with me so I can update their campaigns and send them to their list without any hassle.

Cons

It has added so many more features compared to when I first started using it. I honestly don't have any real complaints about it.

feature-packed value

Pros

Compared with other free-tier options, this one offers a much broader set of features than anything else I've tried. On top of that, adding extra features is fairly affordable which makes it even more worthwhile.

Cons

One thing that can be frustrating is that the workflows tend to shift over time since it's a hosted service. I'd really appreciate having some core functionality remain consistent instead of changing regularly.

Perfect free plan for beginners

Pros

A really powerful free version makes this the email marketing platform I'd recommend first to anyone just getting started and trying to grow a marketing list.

Cons

At one point, my only real complaint was that list segmentation wasn't as capable as what some other platforms offered. That said over the past two years it has grown a lot, adding that feature along with plenty of others to keep up competitively.

fantastic startup email toolkit

Pros

Getting started with it is incredibly fast. I've used it to launch dozens of brands and digital products and I can usually have an account live and collecting email addresses in about 20 minutes. The free plan is another huge advantage. Being able to keep up to 2,000 contacts at no cost is especially valuable for new businesses since it gives you room to test the platform and track ROI before committing much money. The platform is also very user-friendly overall. Forms, email templates, list management and similar tools are all easy to work with. On the rare occasion something isn't available in the admin area, there's a good chance it can be handled through the API. It also integrates really well with third-party platforms which makes building and maximizing your email list much easier. On top of that, it has expanded beyond basic email marketing in recent years by adding features like Facebook ads and card mailing services. I don't think those extras are as strong as the email functionality yet but they seem to be moving in the right direction.

Cons

Over the past couple of years, the pricing changes have been the part I've liked least. First, the pay-as-you-go options are more limited now than the monthly plans. Second, the monthly pricing has gone up which is understandable at some stage but still not ideal. Third some social platform contacts now count toward your contact limit so you end up paying for them the same way you would for email subscribers. Another thing I'm not thrilled about is that the bill automatically increases once you go over your subscriber threshold. That said I'd still rather have that happen than have the platform stop collecting new contacts altogether.
