Colorful planning powerhouse

Pros

Right away Asana felt very user friendly and I really enjoy the look of it. It's clean, visually appealing and colorful without feeling cluttered. As an alternative for staying organized, it works exceptionally well and I think it's an excellent fit for startups because it makes planning, assigning tasks, tracking progress and record-keeping much simpler.

Cons

One thing that didn't work well for me was the time-tracking side since that's essential in my line of work. I wasn't a fan of the integrated option available at the time which was only Harvest. There's Toggl support now and that's a much better choice.

Fantastic free project toolkit

Pros

Running projects with a small team is very effective with this tool especially since the free version already includes the core features needed to manage work properly. It covers essentials like projects, task assignments, due dates and more without any cost. On top of that the premium plan adds useful capabilities for project management including approvals and integrations with analytics platforms.

Cons

Time tracking is not built in directly so it has to be handled through third-party integrations.

Pros

Keeping track of tasks has been very useful and it makes managing projects a lot easier. Plus the ability to create subtasks is another feature that really matters to me.

Cons

everything in the paid version worked out really well for me.

Remote teamwork done right

Pros

Asana has been fantastic for team collaboration especially when working remotely. I honestly cannot picture getting through work without it now. I was already familiar with it before the pandemic but during that time I ended up relying on it heavily. It's been an excellent tool all around.

Cons

I have genuinely enjoyed every part of using it and the app in particular has been especially good.

Powerful free features

Pros

The best things about Asana is how much you get in the free version. It includes a bunch of standout features that feel genuinely unique compared to other tools out there.

Cons

At this point I really don't have anything I dislike about it.

Handy templates

Pros

One thing that really stands out is how much you can tailor the way tasks and projects are displayed. Whether you prefer a list, a board with columns or a calendar view, the options are there. I also appreciate that Asana includes several templates you can pick from based on the type of task or project you're working on.

Cons

nothing feels missing to me right now. Maybe just a few more unicorns, lol.

Fast, dynamic workspace

Pros

Most of the work can be handled from a single view without constantly jumping between different pages which is possible because the interface is highly dynamic. On top of that the app runs very quickly thanks to its proprietary framework.

Cons

Moving subtasks from one task to another isn't very easy. It also still doesn't feel like a fully complete project management tool in the way TeamWork does.

Handy mentions for teamwork

Pros

One thing I really like about Asana is how simple it is to navigate and the @mention feature is especially useful for quickly bringing collaborators into the conversation.

Cons

Whenever I need to work with Excel files, I end up having to find a workaround since the platform seems to only export in JSON and CSV formats.

Fun task tracking

Pros

Keeping tasks and subtasks organized and clearly visible is one of the best parts of using Asana. The deadline notifications are really helpful and the flying sparkly unicorns and narwhales that appear when a task gets completed add a fun touch.

Cons

Since we're based in Europe the Premium plan seems a little too expensive for my small company.

Highly flexible workflows

Pros

Being able to customize projects, templates and workflows to match exactly how our team works has been a big plus. The built-in templates are also incredibly helpful whenever we need to get a project or campaign up and running quickly.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve for people who are new to the platform so it can feel overwhelming at first. Thankfully, the basic training template has been useful for getting everyone up to speed.

Flexible views for planning

Pros

Being able to switch between the list view and the swim lanes layout is fantastic.

Cons

With email notifications the direct link opens the task itself and from there getting back up to the full project view is awkward or at least I haven't been able to figure out a clear way to do it.

Powerful workflow hub

Pros

Running a full-service advertising agency through Asana made it the center of almost everything we did. We organized work by client and department and the combination of task lists, calendars, comments and assignments kept everyone fully informed at all times. Deadlines rarely had a chance to slip, Kanban boards gave us clear visibility into project progress and there were tons of ways to fine-tune how our agency operated with color-coded tags, forward planning, reusable templates, history tracking and more. I could keep talking about it because the overall capability of this software is seriously impressive.

Cons

There's honestly not much for me to criticize. A couple of small changes I once wished for have already been addressed in later updates. The only thing I'd mention is that it doesn't feel quite as productive on a personal account when there's just one user instead of an actual team but that's not really a flaw in the software itself.

Flexible views keep me on track

Pros

Being able to jump between the calendar and task views without any hassle is really helpful. I can also preview messages exchanged between subcontractors which gives me useful context. Overall it helps me stay organized and focused throughout the day.

Cons

One thing that trips me up is that message notifications sometimes go to my email so I don't always realize right away when there's a new message or a task assigned to me.

Modern tools in one place

Pros

Its modern UI seems professional, the mobile app works really well and even the free plan includes all the current agile work tools. Having day to day tracking and everything gathered in one app is really helpful and the large number of integrations makes it fit nicely with an existing set of tools.

Cons

There's a lot to absorb if you're new to project management but beyond that I don't have any real complaints.

Beautiful UI

Pros

The first thing that drew me to Asana was its beautiful interface but it turned out to offer functionality that competes with other pricey project management tools and in some cases even does better.

Cons

One area that could be more user friendly is assigning tasks to team members. Since I moved over from Trello, that's the one part I still feel Trello handled better.
