I also appreciate the adequate customer support system and data security provided by the eXo Platform, ensuring that all files and information uploaded to the platform are safe. One of the main reasons I chose eXo is because it is written in Java, primarily JSP (which can be extended to JSF, Juzu), and it works with portlets. This means you can build modules and apply them to your portal. If you're looking for a framework to build a social network, I highly recommend giving eXo a trial before diving deep into your project.
