Code access anywhere

Pros

Being able to manage source code from anywhere with an internet connection is really convenient. The editor is supported as well and once you finish editing, you can handle version management just by reconnecting to the internet and clicking through it so there is no need to stay online the whole time. The source code editing side also supports this workflow and the GUI button operations make it simple to manage.

Cons

It does include issue management but there is no task management function. Because of that we still have to use it together with Redmine. If task management were added, everything could be consolidated here which would make work much more efficient.

fast notifications that keep us on track

Pros

Fast notifications and quick team mentions are among it's best features. They help us stay informed, coordinate work more effectively and keep up with deadlines across different projects.

Cons

It definitely helps us to have efficient server knowledge when setting up a secure working environment in this software.

organized workflow with a friendly UI

Pros

Overall user experience with this tool is amazing. The workflow is simple without feeling confusing and it still gives you confidence that you are performing the proper Git commands. The interface also does not feel intimidating at all. Even if you are not a developer, the colors and components are clear to follow and the app does a good job of guiding you as you use it. Another plus is that it integrates with test management tools already in use, including Atlassian products.

Cons

There is not much for me to complain about. Honestly I can see myself continuing to use this tool for a long time.

powerful devops toolkit

Pros

It covers all the essentials I need, including code versioning, authentication, continuous integration and continuous delivery features.

Cons

One small issue is that some menu options only appear after I click so they are not visible right away.

gitlab with excellent ci value

Pros

It has been our choice for hosting project repositories and it has worked really well. Running testing with SAST is very easy and setting up static code analysis is just as simple. We have also linked our repositories to CI pipelines which has been a big added benefit especially since it comes at a lower cost than Azure Repos.

Cons

I have been very happy with this software and honestly have not come across any real downsides to mention.

Impressive tool!

Pros

With the right commands in place it automatically pushes my updated JAR files to the configured server and restarts everything for me. If anything goes wrong, rolling back is easy too. It handles the same process just as well across both on-premise setups and cloud server environments.

Cons

Can't think of a downside and I even asked my team while writing this and nobody had any negative feedback to add.

secure code and pipelines

Pros

This platform comes with a lot of features that I really appreciate. Managing code is much simpler with it, whether it's pushing code, pulling changes, creating pull requests, merging or keeping track of code history. The security is also very reliable since no one can access the code unless they have permission. On top of that, setting up and using automation pipelines feels very convenient and practical.

Cons

I noticed that it's web interface would log me out automatically sometimes.

Pros

It lets us handle everything in one place, whether it's developing, securing or operating software which makes the whole process much more convenient.

Cons

It can be a little confusing to use at first especially for someone who is new to the platform.

confusing interface and awful project management

Pros

Merge requests are decent enough but honestly that is the only positive thing I can point to.

Cons

Project management side of this software is terrible. The interface feels designed to confuse people on purpose and nothing is consistent from one place to another. Using it makes work incredibly frustrating, to the point that I hate my job. I would rather change companies than keep dealing with this software.

top self-hosted repository choice

Pros

If you want to keep your code on your own servers instead of putting it in the cloud it is a really good option.

Cons

Handling pull requests can be troublesome at times and the UI could definitely use some improvement.

GitHub like features

Pros

Compared with other vendors, this is the only one I've seen that really matches GitHub in terms of features. The UI is well designed, the pipeline performs reliably and support for external integrations is very good.

Cons

It is a bit on the expensive side and from what I know, there still isn't a free tier available.

secure CI/CD powerhouse

Pros

Compared with similar tools this one is more secure and is much more widely accepted across the industry. It also helps that the platform is supported by a professional certification track. Another thing I have noticed is how fast it performs especially when handling CI/CD workflows.

Cons

It does not seem as popular with beginners so many people naturally start out with GitHub instead and this is the only downside with this tool. That said after spending some time with this platform it becomes clear how user-friendly it is compared to other options. Aside from not being as well known among newcomers, I really have not come across any major downsides.

ease of use is 5/5

Pros

It gives our team a practical way to manage development and DevOps workflows and even self-host everything when needed. It may not have a huge edge over competing tools but the built-in issue tracker is fully featured and overall it is easier to use than the very widespread GitHub.

Cons

Something that feels missing is a native mobile app. It's a little disappointing but for most use cases it's not really a serious problem or anything that would stop people from using it.

gitlab fits our workflow

Pros

Two things really made it the right choice for us. First the built-in features like CI/CD let us create automated pipelines and the online change comparison tools are also very useful. Second I prefer the UI and overall UX compared to GitHub. On top of that it covers most of what we need for free, unlike GitHub which felt too expensive and that was a big reason we chose this one instead.

Cons

A downside is that it seems to be missing integrations for some of the other software we use.

Love the community

Pros

Its community is one of the best parts about it. People from all over the world share questions, doubts and solutions and that really helps with continuous improvement in programming. On top of that, it's built-in development features, like value stream reporting and testing tools, make it much easier to write code efficiently and with fewer mistakes.

Cons

The free version is missing several tools compared with the paid plans. Customer support could also be better because responses sometimes take longer than expected.
