“simple code management online”

Pros

Managing project code is simple with it. I set up a group and repository, onboard the team and they commit their work daily. It ensures code stays secure and gives me the flexibility to review everything online whenever needed.

It has honestly been one of the best tools I've used. It has made my work much more hassle-free.

Pros

Setup is very easy for us and it offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to extending it.

Cons

An issue is that even smaller deployments require quite a bit of RAM compared to other options although those alternatives usually come with fewer features.

Pros

The interface looks clean and responsive. The issue tracking system is useful for resolving problems and planning tasks and the API comes packed with plenty of features.

Cons

Permissions and user management setup could be organized a bit better. It's also not as widely used for open source projects.

Pros

Git integration works really well and new features keep rolling out to make the overall user experience better. It also supports a wide range of integrations across different languages, plus plenty of tools for code quality, linting, code analysis and more. The pipeline is flexible enough to handle just about any kind of step for testing, building and deploying. Having a private registry included is also a big advantage.

Cons

The API could be more capable and it would help to have packages available for the most common languages like Node.js. The registry navigator still needs improvement and member permission management could also be handled better.

Pros

As a collaborative tool it works really well for managing projects and keeping progress on schedule. The reporting features are also very useful when it comes to communication across the organization.

Cons

Interface is not especially user-friendly and it takes time for people to learn how to use it comfortably. I hope more tutorial videos will be added and made available in the future.

“helps with repository management”

Pros

It has been a really amazing collaboration tool for our team especially with how customizable the build pipelines are and issue tracking is simple. Being able to leave comments directly on code snippets and keep unresolved threads open makes it much easier to follow up on suggestions. Since those threads have to be manually resolved before merging, it helps prevent code from moving forward before feedback has actually been addressed. It also offers plenty of settings for controlling things like merge commit behavior so you get a lot of control over how the repository is managed.

Cons

One thing that still bothers me with this tool is that the interface can feel confusing and not always very clear. I am not really a fan of the stacked diff view when reviewing code changes. When I compare it to another version control platform like BitBucket, it feels like more effort to work through the changes in a merge request. You do eventually adjust to it but at first it feels a bit complicated and not as pleasant to use.

Pros

This platform provides you a great place to manage and store code while also offering a lot of useful features beyond that. Its built-in CI/CD works well with major cloud platforms so I can stay focused on writing code while it handles the deployment side. Team collaboration is also excellent in GitLab.

Cons

I really haven't run into any issues with it.

Pros

Using it is very easy and it comes with several advanced features that really help us manage and improve the quality of our work.

Cons

The CI side is fairly complex and integrating it with all the automated and manual tests we usually run is not very simple.

Pros

Getting CI/CD set up with this tool is pretty simple and easy to learn rather than overwhelming. I also really value the option to install it on-premises which gives a stronger sense of security. Having a free version available is a big plus for us.

Cons

I have not faced any major problems while using it for my projects. If I had to point out one thing it would be the problems I experienced during migration to newer versions.

“Powerful local hosting options”

Pros

It can be installed on-premises which makes it much more customizable compared to GitHub for teams that want local control. It also comes with built-in CI/CD feature, includes code search and indexing and integrates with a Docker registry along with multiple code repositories.

Cons

At the same time the platform is a tightly connected system so if one feature fails it can affect a large part of the whole service. Setting up multiple servers is not easy and moving or upgrading to a new server is also complicated. Another downside is that the self-hosted version costs almost the same as the cloud version so there is not much price benefit. Also the CI/CD shared runners (including free and paid usage) run on a Kubernetes system without fixed IP addresses which makes it harder to connect to your own servers unless you open ports publicly or use a VPN tunnel.

Pros

It is as powerful as its's competitors when it comes to cross-team collaboration. It helps different teams stay aligned and work together while supporting the CI/CD approach really well. For a DevOps team that wants efficiency, it offers all the right tools.

Cons

It would be nice to see a few more features added but overall the support could definitely be better. For such a widely used platform we expect a higher level of assistance. It is still an excellent tool, it just needs stronger support behind it.

Pros

Setup was quick and it's a powerful tool for helping our team manage code version control. The features are simple enough that it doesn't take long to understand how everything works and begin using it.

Cons

This doesn't feel all that different from other competitors. Most of the features are pretty similar to what other platforms already offer.

Pros

It works well with Jenkins and Jira and you can install it on-premises without depending on outside services. Handling it is easy and the version control side does not take much expertise to understand. It is also fully compatible with CI/CD workflows.

Cons

When files contain a very large number of lines, they are not displayed very well in version control. On a private server, things become quite problematic because certain tasks, such as updating or migrating the system, are not simple to carry out.

Pros

Setting up a project for any software implementation source code repository is easy for us. The platform is very user-friendly for checking in code, whether through the web interface or with a client-based approach like a Git client or command line into the repository.

Cons

One thing it still falls short on is automatic CI/CD deployment. I would like to see the team include integrated Jenkins so that, after configuring the endpoint, users could deploy code directly into the application.

At times it becomes quite slow and there can be problems when connecting to the servers or during upgrades. Other than that, everything else works well.

Pros

Running it on-prem gives us the highest level of privacy. It also uses the same CLI as GitHub so there was basically no issue with learning it at all.

Cons

It really doesn't promote itself the way it should! I honestly wish I had discovered it much earlier!!!! It ended up solving our code repository problem. We were concerned about keeping our code on GitHub.

Pros

This is a very good product. It comes in both a business edition and a community edition which gives some useful flexibility. Another big advantage is that it can be installed locally so there is no need to depend on external systems.

Cons

A downside is that upgrading it or moving it to a new server is not very simple. Also, when one function breaks, the others tend to go down with it.

“trustworthy tracking platform”

Pros

Working with a team of developers is much more manageable with it especially when it comes to version control on shared projects. It has helped me a lot with tracking changes in the source code. As a Git repository manager it works really well as a distributed version control system. You can pull the source code, push your updates and other developers can easily follow the changes being made in the code.

Cons

To really get the best out of it you need to become familiar with its commands and that takes quite a bit of practice and understanding.

“Boards that fit our workflow”

Pros

Boards have been a huge help for tracking Issues through every stage of their lifecycle. With customizable columns and labels, it's fast to understand exactly where an Issue stands, giving management and the rest of the team a clear high-level view while still keeping all the detailed context, attached code branches and merge requests available for developers and stakeholders. I also really appreciate that it can link code from multiple projects to Issues no matter where those projects are which means you can set up as many boards and projects as needed. The whole system feels thoughtfully designed and natural for just about anything I need to do from an organizational standpoint. It also fits very well into developers' day-to-day workflows.

Cons

It keeps getting better and gives users a way to request new features so if there's something missing, you can suggest it and they do work on it. The only downside is that those improvements can take a while sometimes although there's usually a workaround in the meantime.

“offers amazing value”

Pros

Having both a community edition and an enterprise edition makes this product a really compelling option. It keeps the initial cost low and upgrading to enterprise after everything is in place is still far more affordable than a lot of competing tools. It also gives you the freedom to run a private server in Docker or on bare metal which is a huge plus. I honestly can't say enough good things about this tool.

Cons

There really isn't much to complain about here. It's a very capable platform and can be deployed in just about any way you'd want. If I had to be picky, adding extra users can be a bit frustrating when self-registration isn't enabled.
