“top choice for private Git hosting”
Pros
Compared with Github this is a brilliantly managed cloud Git option in my opinion but it really stands out when you install it on your own infrastructure or in a private cloud. If keeping your source code off the public internet matters and you still want reliable Git-based version control, it is one of the better options available. Installation is pretty easy when you use one of the packaged methods like Docker and it's also fairly simple to configure around your specific needs.
Cons
The Community Edition does miss quite a few features that would have been helpful. Those are available in the Enterprise Edition but getting them means paying a significant additional cost.

“simple tool”
Pros
Having a free open-source edition that can be installed on a private server is a huge plus especially with unlimited repositories and support for users with different access levels. It also integrates really well with Jenkins for automatic builds and codebase deployment. The UI is simple to use and it supports the full CI/CD lifecycle.
Cons
I honestly have nothing to complain about.

“FEATURE RICH SOFTWARE”
Pros
Getting started with it was simple since it's free and easy to use. It comes in both Community and Enterprise editions and it makes version control and code reviews much more manageable. There are plenty of features included and it fits well into existing developer workflows.
Cons
It doesn't integrate directly with Android Studio and some other third-party services. It also slows down at times and can feel a bit laggy.

“easy to browse”
Pros
Exploring different features is very easy and the single sign-on with an office email makes access really convenient. It also brings together source control and an integrated CI/CD pipeline in a way that matches industry standards. Cloning projects through Git Bash or Eclipse has also been amazing for us without running into SSL certificate validation problems.
Cons
Moving projects over from another platform to it can be tricky at times. The CI/CD setup process could also use better documentation because some parts are not explained clearly enough.

“quick and easy updates”
Pros
Version control is functional and gets the job done. Repositories are just easy to read and collaborating with others on shared code is manageable without too much friction.
Cons
Other than few areas I mentioned in pros, most of the features are complicated to understand. You really need to understand the platform properly before getting comfortable with it and GitHub seems easier to understand by comparison. I also ran into an issue where one of my plots which looked large in the original notebook, became much smaller after being uploaded to it. It would also be an improvement if interactive plots were easier to upload.

“workflow made simple”
Pros
Managing the DevOps cycle and the Git workflow is very simple with this tool. Before switching to it I had a much harder time working with other tools like Gerrit.
Cons
It still needs a simpler user interface for comparing changes and handling conflict resolution.

“Easy installation”
Pros
Installing it was easy and upgrading later was just as simple. I haven't run into any bugs or errors at all. Setting up the CI/CD part was also very manageable.
Cons
The only thing I couldn't get working was SSL installation. I may have overlooked something but it's not a major concern for me at the moment.

“GitHub alternative”
Pros
It serves as an alternative to GitHub and offers us many of the same features for free.
Cons
It tends to crash a bit more often than GitHub which can be really frustrating when your team needs to fix an issue and deploy something important right away.

This webpage is really useful for visualizing change tracking and merging different branches in one place.

Locating more advanced settings on the project pages can be difficult for us sometimes such as the option to lock specific branches.

“pull and clone works brilliantly”
Pros
Pull and clone have been the most useful features for me since they make it simple to update the server code and apply changes without much effort by using push.
Cons
Conflicts do come up once in a while although that is not really a direct flaw in the software. Still with AI tools being so widely available now, it would be nice to have automatic code conflict resolution to track and manage the master code more intelligently.

“My review”
Pros
It feels like the right mix of Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins. It makes it simple to set up and manage our repositories, building and testing applications is pretty easy.
Cons
Sometimes a build runs for 20 to 30 minutes before failing and only then do I get to see the error. I understand it has to reach that stage first but earlier failure detection would be a really helpful improvement.

“Love the private repositories”
Pros
Having unlimited free private repositories was a huge plus especially back when GitHub only offered public repos for free. It also connects really well with CI/CD tools and the interface feels is very simple to work with.
Cons
Official mobile app is still missing. When I'm away from my desk, I have to rely on the browser and an app would definitely make the experience much better than using the mobile site. Support in many editors is also still lacking for this tool although that doesn't seem entirely within GitLab's control.

“practical version control for small teams”
Pros
Back when GitHub still limited private repos, the biggest win for us at JeFawk Games-just me and my freelancing friends, not employees like it says-was getting 1GB free in private repositories. Since we work on games, having both the storage and the privacy really mattered. Later on, it started offering free private repos too but they cap them at 1GB and push you toward using Large File Storage while it gives you that kind of flexibility by default without extra struggle. It also comes with DevOps tools and a bunch of other features we honestly don't even use. For our needs the standout benefit is still the larger built-in space and support for up to 3 collaborators. It has been really good for us even if it's not perfect.
Cons
Most frustrating parts of this tool is that the website can feel a little slow. Sometimes certain pages take anywhere from 1 to 4 seconds to load. Another downside is that we use GitHub Desktop to manage our repositories on this tool and getting that connected was pretty awkward. The setup felt complicated to use, mostly because it was more about making it work through a URL than offering proper direct support. I definitely wouldn't want to deal with that process again though to be fair the last time I set it up was around two years ago so maybe they've improved it since then.

“works well for code reviews”
Pros
After trying everything from GitHub to Bitbucket this tool is like the best fit. It does much more than just repository management and includes a lot of useful features that really simplify the whole DevOps process. It works especially well for code reviews, with the comments and approval system making collaboration feel spot on.
Cons
At times, finding exactly what you need can be a bit frustrating and you end up digging through the settings more than expected.

“clear repository history view”
Pros
The part I appreciate most about it is the web app for browsing my repositories. It works really well for finding files quickly and keeping track of the history.
Cons
Branch control in the web interface could be improved. It would help if the platform offered users more support for managing branches.

“helpful pipelines”
Pros
It offers plenty of features that really support the team. The interface is clear, the pipeline feature is especially useful and the wide range of integrations adds a lot of value.
Cons
It does run into instability fairly often. User and permissions management could be better and it still misses some features expected at the enterprise level.

“assists us in troubleshooting errors”
Pros
One thing that makes this platform valuable is how amazing and user-friendly it is especially with such a large community of programmers using it. The part I appreciate most is the set of tools that helps us troubleshoot and fix errors in project code. It also gives us the ability to keep proper version control for applications.
Cons
At times the file viewer runs into issues and fails to show all files correctly.
