Dependable for tracking hours and invoicing

Pros

Sage Timeslips is a very dependable, no-nonsense tool for tracking hours and invoicing clients. Once it is configured entering hours becomes precise and the reporting capabilities are powerful enough for professional needs.

Cons

That said the user interface comes across as rather old-fashioned and wasn't very user-friendly when I first started using it. Also getting everything set up took longer than I expected and a few of the workflows seem to me unnecessarily complex.

easy to operate and excellent reporting

Pros

Over the decades I have used it I found the program very easy to operate and excellent at producing reports quickly which I truly enjoyed.

Cons

I've been using it for such a long time that I remember buying the boxed CD version years ago. What really turned me off was the switch to a monthly subscription model as it became way too expensive, much too costly for someone working alone like me and I ultimately had no choice but to stop using it.

pretty easy to move and toggle through entries

Pros

It is pretty easy to move through each entry. Plus the ability to toggle from one record to another makes editing and checking multiple entries quick and efficient which saves me time. Creating bills was simple too and I like that bills can be locked before approval.

Cons

The design felt a bit outdated and I had to dig extra to understand some details because they were not clearly explained.

perfect for time and expenses

Pros

For my workflow entering time and expenses is not a problem and I have access to a broad variety of reports plus flexible customization options.

Cons

I find that many reports use font so small that I struggle to read them without zooming or printing.

hasn't continued improving, falls behind

Pros

I really like being able to print a detailed report that breaks down earnings for every timekeeper and gives me the overall client earnings rate plus any write-downs.

Cons

From my experience it hasn't continued improving the software and I felt it has fallen behind when it comes to available features.

Sage Timeslips Review

Pros

Timeslips offers exceptional time tracking and billing features. The billing and invoicing capabilities are truly outstanding.

Cons

I'm truly disappointed with the customer support provided by Timeslips. Trying to resolve issues through "chat" services is absurd. I believe in the importance of one-on-one conversations for customer support. It should be a priority feature of Timeslips, considering the amount I pay annually. I should have more than 4-5 support interactions without additional charges. These issues need to be addressed.

Antiquated compared to the options available today

Pros

There wasn't much to like about Sage Timeslips, except for the abundance of reporting options available.

Cons

The software is clunky and overly complicated. The interface feels outdated. I initially started with the locally hosted version, which was nearly impossible to upgrade and required keeping an old computer. I explored demos with Sage to switch to a newer version, but their offering was unimpressive compared to other products I considered.

easy to use and teach, quick solutions

Pros

Using Timeslips is not a problem and it is pretty easy to show coworkers how to use it. And whenever I have a problem I can quickly locate the solution I need.

Cons

The initial setup can be a bit hard but once it's done everything runs fine. And I do find that customizing invoice layouts or adjusting other settings can take more time than I'd prefer.

made billing and invoicing simpler

Pros

Using Sage Timeslips has made billing and invoicing a lot simpler for our practice. We connect it to our accounting and tax programs which helps keep our invoices accurate and on schedule and we are able to generate bills as we complete work.

Cons

For the most part this tool is almost perfect for billing but I do wish it could link directly with Outlook. Because it can be a real hassle when client addresses need updating in both programs since syncing them is not smooth.

easy to roll out, strong bill preparation

Pros

TimeSlips is fairly easy to roll out as a time and expense solution for our business. I especially like the bill preparation and invoice generation which are strong and allow me to make real-time corrections or adjustments on the fly.

Cons

The reporting tools aren't user friendly and I struggle to modify them to suit our needs.

Relieved there is a LEDES add-on

Pros

I'm relieved there is a LEDES billing add-on that manages things especially because most of my clients have moved that way. Importing from e-timeslips is fast and easy too.

Cons

Honestly the reporting tools are really poor. As during my use I couldn't find even a basic report I expected would be there and on top of that the split-billing functionality frequently fails to operate correctly.

uses mini-slips for daily timekeeping

Pros

For daily timekeeping across all our clients I rely on mini-slips to capture every billable hour accurately and efficiently. It's a simple, focused way to log time as I go, making sure nothing slips through the cracks when it's time to generate invoices. Having that consistent, detailed record makes billing smoother and far more reliable for both our team and our clients.

Cons

I often struggle to get quick, effective support when problems come up especially from staff who speak English so contacting them isn't as easy as it should be.

import timesheets straight in

Pros

I can import timesheets directly into Timeslips which makes consolidating all my time entries much easier and more efficient. Instead of manually re-entering data or juggling multiple records everything flows smoothly into one central system. That smooth integration saves me time, reduces errors and keeps billing accurate and consistent across the board.

Cons

Sometimes it is difficult to adjust bill layouts when I only want to make small changes.

Likes invoicing and accounts receivable

Pros

One thing I really like about this software is how easy it makes invoicing clients and keeping track of accounts receivable. It efficiently handles everything from generating invoices to tracking payments which helps me stay organized and makes sure nothing slips through the cracks. It's a huge time-saver!

Cons

For my small firm the switch to an annual subscription pricing model has been really frustrating. As I am charged every year for access even though I only use basic features so it feels like I am wasting money on services I don't need.

easy for simple tasks, complex for advanced

Pros

Timeslips is fairly easy to use for simple tasks as long as I don't try anything too complex.

Cons

When I dig into more advanced features the software feels overly complex and not very user friendly so I struggle to learn and use it. Even with frequent updates, I still think it's somewhat outdated and it eats up too much system data making it hard to run smoothly and fit into my everyday workflow.

Glad it stores client history

Pros

I'm glad Timeslips stores client history so we can pull up old bills quickly without reprinting. Also there are many report types available which is useful though the sheer number can be overwhelming when trying to find the right one. My team and I have started using abbreviation features and we have seen that they really speed up entering slips and make data-entry faster overall.

Cons

A few things about it have left me underwhelmed. Such as support options depend on your version and with our subscription including only three chats. So I have had to hold questions for months before getting a response. If you don't mind long waits before reaching someone, it might be okay but it's frustrating for me. That said when a rep finally remote-accessed our Timeslips, it was incredibly helpful to show issues on screen. And I got most of my questions answered then. Even with support, they couldn't explain why Data Verification no longer resolves client balances. I was told an upgrade caused the problem and it still isn't fixed. So I'm left wondering how we'll know when a permanent fix is ready. Another major annoyance is the many clicks and pop-up messages just to print one invoice and send it to LEDES. On top of that closing client accounts is a headache because we have to search through every invoice and AR transaction to find what's blocking the closure.
