Helpful threads feature

Pros

It has been really useful for group communication on professional projects. The threads feature is especially helpful because it keeps conversations organized by topic and makes discussions much easier to follow.

Cons

No complaints about it. It feels like a powerful tool for team communication, file and photo sharing and staying on top of important updates.

Feels approachable

Pros

Slack feels very approachable and organized but it still has plenty of depth when you need it. The channel setup and threaded conversations work really well and the personalization options are a big plus too.

Cons

People tend to rely on it for conversations that would be better handled face to face or through email. When it's not used thoughtfully, it can make the workplace feel a bit less personal.

Easy to get comfortable with

Pros

Keeping in touch with coworkers has been really enjoyable with this tool. It makes it simple to share files quickly for feedback and we can jump into weekly meetings or connect on short notice whenever needed. It didn't take long to get comfortable using it and it comes with some really nice extras, like cards and other handy features!

Cons

Not being able to record meetings and go back to them later is frustrating. If that feature does exist, it's not obvious enough for me to find. There are also times when the app freezes which gets in the way of using it properly.

Lovely dedicated, topic-based channels

Pros

Keeping team conversations in dedicated, topic-based channels has been a big plus. It reduces the usual email overload by bringing discussions, files and important information together in one place. Productivity also gets a boost from the app integrations, workflow automation for repetitive tasks, strong search features and the quick options for calls and file sharing which all help collaboration move faster.

Cons

it feels a little expensive for what's included and I do wish there were more options available. Even with that, it's still been a really useful tool overall.

Simple yet effective

Pros

Compared with other workplace chat tools I've used, this is by far the simplest communication platform in the corporate world. You can create all kinds of different groups, schedule reminders and do a lot more beyond basic messaging.

Cons

Honestly, it's incredibly simple to use and when I compare it with other communication platforms, I can't think of anything it's missing.

Slack fits right into work

Pros

Set up takes no time and using it feels very natural. The core features all work the way you expect them to: real-time chat, private channels, search, calls, Canvas and more. I use it so many times throughout the day that it has basically become part of my normal work routine.

Cons

The biggest downside is how much information, channels and notifications can pile up. That's not really Slack's fault but it can still become overwhelming. There's also the potential risk of security breaches and I assume it's probably expensive although that part doesn't directly affect me.

Brilliant tool for team collaboration

Pros

It has been an amazing tool for team collaboration. The pricing is flexible, the interface is clean and the platform is very simple to use. It also connects really well with our other systems. On top of that, it does a very effective job with real-time editing and secure file sharing.

Cons

Honestly, I don't have any complaints about the software. It has simplified and automated a lot of our collaboration processes.

Better than email communication

Pros

Does an amazing job of almost completely replacing email when it comes to actionable communication and that's the biggest reason it stands out for me.

Cons

The calling feature still doesn't measure up to what other vendors offer and the AI capabilities feel underwhelming. A lot of the newer additions also seem less polished than the original features that made it so disruptive in the first place.

Engaging emojis, GIFs and custom themes

Pros

It is really simple to use and our team leans on emojis, GIFs and custom themes a lot which makes everyday communication feel more lively and less stiff than relying on email. Huddles are especially useful for those instant, one-click audio or video check-ins that feel a lot like quick conversations in an office. I also appreciated how threaded replies kept project-specific discussions organized without cluttering the main channel. The file sharing and screenshot integrations were a big help too especially when management needed quick responses. Overall, it helped me give better customer support and answer questions much faster.

Cons

On a larger team though, the nonstop pings and channel notifications started to become too much. With alerts coming in constantly, it was hard to stay focused and that broke up my attention enough to hurt my deep-work productivity.

Fantastic search function

Pros

Using it feels very natural and it's incredibly simple to navigate. My favorite part is the search function because being able to pull up details from older conversations is extremely helpful.

Cons

I don't have any negatives to point out. I've been using it for years and haven't run into any issues with it.

Simple to move between channels

Pros

It is very user-friendly especially when moving between channels and direct conversations. On hectic days when messages are coming in nonstop, I really appreciate that unread messages are surfaced at the top so I can quickly decide what needs my attention first. Editing and sending messages feels very smooth and the keyboard shortcuts for jumping between channels are genuinely satisfying to use. The emoji options also add a nice personal touch and help build a fun, recognizable culture across the workplace.

Cons

During particularly busy days, it can still become a bit overwhelming. Even with the prioritization features working well, the sheer number of messages across several channels can turn into background noise and make it harder to stay focused on deeper work. Every now and then, important messages still get buried and the steady flow of notifications can make it difficult to fully tune out and disconnect during the day.

Works well for our team

Pros

Slack is very simple to understand and keeps everything you need in one place. We've used it for file sharing, huddles, direct chats, group conversations, to-do lists and calendars and it handles all of that really well. It's also been good value for the money for a team of around 200 people.

Cons

Every now and then, the huddle feature would run into a bug or have a small issue. It was never anything major though and customer support was able to sort it out without much trouble.

Ability to share images

Pros

Having separate group message threads for each hospital department made communication much more organized. Being able to share images across the whole company was really useful too.

Cons

The lower-cost plan our company used only kept a limited number of messages before removing them permanently so if you didn't log in every few days, anything you missed was gone for good. Upgrading to the higher-priced version would fix that but the basic tier is pretty hard to manage.

We love Slack!

Pros

Our workplace has really taken to it. It gives our teams a simple, efficient way to stay in touch for work conversations while also making space for more casual chats around shared hobbies and interests.

Cons

data exporting on our current package has been hard. That feature hasn't been very simple and I wish it were a little more user-friendly.

Excellent choice for teams of any size

Pros

It works really well as a communication platform for teams of any size. The interface feels user-friendly so getting around it and using it day to day is very simple. It also helps that there are both desktop and mobile apps available which makes it convenient to stay connected from anywhere.

Cons

I sometimes miss messages when someone replies in a thread since it can appear under "Activity" instead of showing up like a new message. It doesn't happen often though and it could just be related to one of my notification settings.

Complicated interface

Pros

Across the organization, it makes communication really convenient. You can message teammates quickly, jump into team channels and use dedicated groups for different functions which helps move collaboration and decision-making along faster. It's also useful to know exactly where to go when you need to ask a question or get a quick response. When the notification settings are configured well, they do a good job of making sure important messages don't get overlooked.

Cons

Navigating the interface can be frustrating especially when you're trying to locate older conversations, threads you've replied to or messages you saved to revisit later. Tracking down specific chats or discussions by date is not always simple. Some of these features may be available but they are not very user-friendly or obvious to find. It can also become overwhelming because messages are constantly coming in. If channels and notifications are not customized carefully, it's very easy to get flooded with information. Since anyone can reach anyone else at almost any time, everything can start to feel urgent which makes it harder to tell what actually needs immediate attention. Overall, it takes a fair amount of effort from the user to manage well and the UI would be better if it were more organized and user-friendly.

Tidy interface

Pros

Getting around it feels very simple and the interface is clean and uncluttered. Its overall setup is also a lot like Discord so it felt familiar right away and was simple to adjust to.

Cons

At times, messages either fail to send or take way too long to load and process. Unexpected server outages can also be a real problem.

Indispensable part of our remote business

Pros

Slack has become an indispensable part of running a remote business for us. We rely on it for team chat, file sharing and plenty of other day-to-day needs. It keeps communication flowing effortlessly and helps everyone stay aligned and in sync.

Cons

Over the past 10 years, it has improved tremendously and at this point I honestly don't have anything negative to say about the product.

Easy to track updates

Pros

It has been really effective for staying in touch with different departments and coworkers and it also makes it simple to keep up with updates and changes across the company structure.

Cons

I don't have much negative to say because I genuinely enjoy using it. If I had to point out one thing, the threads or notifications can sometimes feel a little overwhelming although you do have the option to turn them off.

Makes teamwork manageable

Pros

Working with employees across different time zones is much more manageable with it. It lets us communicate easily, schedule meetings, share files and keep everything moving without much hassle.

Cons

I'd still like to see more functionality from the connected apps inside the platform itself. It feels a bit limited right now although I'm sure that will improve over time.
