Keyboard-friendly messaging

Pros

Navigating with the keyboard is really simple and it makes staying on top of messages much easier. The policy of giving credit back for inactive users is unique and honestly amazing , I'm rooting for Slack to succeed for that reason alone.

Cons

Video conferencing was consistently terrible.

Works like Discord

Pros

The layout feels very user-friendly so getting around the platform is simple. It works a lot like Discord but in a way that fits business communication really well.

Cons

Searching for older comments can be a bit frustrating at times since they're not always easy to track down.

Simple for growing collaboration

Pros

It has been an excellent way to keep our remote team connected. We can message each other quickly and setting up new channels makes it simple to grow collaboration across different conversations and projects.

Cons

We're on the free plan and even with that, it's very user-friendly and there are hardly any real drawbacks.

Valuable message history

Pros

Two things I appreciate most are the message history and the ability to create separate threads for specific topics. Because older conversations are saved, everyone can catch up on what's been going on, even if they're brand new to the team and the threaded discussions help keep everything organized.

Cons

At times, the way threads are arranged in the app can feel a little confusing.

Focused on productivity

Pros

Working across a bunch of different apps can get messy and one thing that really helps here is having a tool focused on workplace productivity. It's one of the simplest places to message, collaborate with coworkers and even stay connected with people outside my organization.

Cons

Since not everyone on a team will be using the same software, it does take a bit more coordination. It also isn't as effective when the team isn't already comfortable with online collaboration tools.

Keeps convos engaging

Pros

Working remotely feels much more connected with this because our team can communicate in one place and it keeps conversations engaging too thanks to how simple it is to add emojis and gifs.

Cons

One thing that gets frustrating is how slowly the app loads when opening it again after it's been closed.

Huddles make quick chats better

Pros

Slack adding the "huddle" feature has been really useful. It's perfect for having quick conversations without needing to schedule a meeting first.

Cons

My messages don't sync right away with my phone. There's usually a delay although that might also be related to my internet connection.

Good app

Pros

Found it easy to handle. It keeps conversations neatly separated into different channels which makes team communication feel much more organized.

Cons

My only real issue is that our company isn't taking full advantage of everything it offers. There are features I had never even heard of until I took this survey to review the product and I wish I had known earlier how to use them.

built around corporate email

Pros

Switching from Trello made it feel a little complicated in the beginning but once I got used to it, it started to make a lot more sense especially since this is the only platform we use at work. The part I really appreciate is how well it's built around corporate email, with stronger functionality and a better fit for business communication.

Cons

Signup process could be improved. Getting started takes a bit of effort especially for someone who is new to setting up and working with corporate email.

Less noisy than Teams and Discord

Pros

After trying plenty of workplace chat tools across different jobs, this one still ends up being my favorite. It feels cleaner and a lot less noisy and I don't get the same level of distracting notifications that I usually run into with Microsoft Teams or Discord. I've already gone through the settings so it's not that, it really comes down to how team permissions are set by default and admin typically isn't going to change that. The integrations work smoothly and the interface is visually appealing to me especially when I compare it to Teams.

Cons

Video conferencing built into chat apps is usually a bit sluggish so I can't really single this one out for that. Still, I'd recommend just linking to or integrating a tool that's actually designed for meetings such as Zoom.

Project planning and team visibility

Pros

It gets used a lot on my side for discussing project workflows and planning ideas with teammates. One of the biggest advantages is being able to keep track of teammates and the work that has been assigned to them.

Cons

At times, handling multiple project channels or workspaces all at once can feel a bit difficult. Still, it does help that they can be separated clearly with colors, names and similar labels.

Works well for custom integrations

Pros

It works really well for custom integrations and it gives you the flexibility to create both private and public groups. I also appreciate being able to join and follow the channels that matter most to my work and interests.

Cons

Tablet compatibility can be better since it doesn't adapt very well on those devices. I've also noticed some formatting issues with lists and fonts from time to time.

Scaled as we grew

Pros

Slack has really expanded the way we handle communication as our operation has grown larger and busier. I use it to stay in touch with coworkers and even certain guests. It lets me share links with teammates, assign specific tasks and keep conversations organized with sub-discussions under the main thread.

Cons

The integrations with other apps can be a little tricky at times although that may partly be because I'm not the most technical person. It can also become pretty addictive and sometimes feels a bit like a regular social media platform which can turn into a real source of distraction in an otherwise business-focused environment.

Exciting new features

Pros

Very userfriendly and the free plan never feels too limiting. The ability to archive old conversations and search through them later is indispensable. Being able to mute notifications outside working hours is a huge plus especially when working from home and trying to disconnect. The API integrations and webhooks make it possible to keep most things in one place instead of constantly jumping between different apps and windows and the updates are usually meaningful, packed with useful and genuinely exciting new features.

Cons

Meetings often connect on my phone before they do on my laptop. Another missing feature is the inability to mute individual threads.

Custom channels for each project

Pros

Being able to set up private, customized channels for each project is really useful and it's convenient to assign different people to each one as needed.

Cons

The free plan feels pretty limited, with not much storage and only a small set of features compared with the paid version. Moving between links across different workspaces is also still a bit complex.

Ability to highlight objects in real time

Pros

During screenshares, being able to highlight objects in real time is fantastic and genuinely useful. The two-factor authentication setup with Google Authenticator is also integrated extremely well.

video conferencing quality could be better and the audio-video synchronization still needs improvement.

messy notifications

Pros

Working as a developer, I can connect it with plenty of external services without much trouble which helps a lot with bug tracking, project management and team communication overall.

Cons

The notifications on the Android and iOS apps are not always real-time so they don't feel very reliable. Once you're dealing with more than 30 active channels, it becomes difficult to tell which one got the latest message. I might see a notification pop up but if I miss the channel name, it can take a few minutes to figure out where the message actually came from.

Creates a lively and engaging atmosphere

Pros

It has been a fantastic tool for coordinating work, collaborating with others and sharing real-time discussions and updates especially in enterprise and non-profit settings. One thing that makes it especially useful is the ability to create different groups within a channel so each group can have its own discussion without interruption from others. It feels a bit like a large meeting hall with separate private rooms. Because of that, it becomes an extremely effective and valuable platform for organized conversations and everyone can stay aligned as discussions happen. The interface is user-friendly, it stays current and the service quality is excellent which makes it a very important tool for team communication and collaboration. The mention and filtering features are also really helpful when certain tasks need to be directed to specific people. It creates a more lively and engaging atmosphere than many other business communication apps and the level of customization and syncing available to users is a major advantage. Overall, it stands out as one of the best group messaging applications out there.

Cons

Conversations can move very quickly so it can be hard to keep up with everything if you are not paying close attention. The pop-up notifications and emoticons also make it feel a bit addictive at times and it can sometimes resemble a regular social media platform more than a business communication tool. In a workplace that is meant to stay strictly business-focused, that can easily become a source of distraction. To really get the best out of Slack, it needs to be used for its intended purpose since the platform naturally allows for many different kinds of interaction.

One of the strongest options

Pros

After nearly three years of using it, it has proven to be one of the strongest options out there for team communication. It gives our organization real-time, smooth communication and delivers excellent value for the cost. You can send instant messages to the whole team for quick questions or direct message a specific person when you need a one-on-one answer. Sharing files is also very convenient, whether by uploading them directly or connecting Google Drive or Dropbox to send links. On top of that, conversations feel more engaging with emojis and fun GIFs. The free version already includes everything needed for solid team communication and if you want more advanced productivity features like collaborating with outside vendors inside your workspace, upgrading to a paid plan is definitely worth considering. Overall, it's a very user-friendly platform.

Cons

It works really well for communication between teams but it doesn't include any project management features.
