Practical for tracking updates

Pros

Keeping in touch with our team is much simpler with this, whether it's one-on-one or in group conversations. It offers a lot of the same advantages as email like sharing files and staying in touch but the threaded conversations are far more efficient and user-friendly. It's also much more practical than regular email when it comes to tracking updates and following progress on a project.

Cons

it can create an unspoken pressure to reply right away. Since coworkers can often see when you're online, it can be tougher to stay focused on one project without feeling pulled into immediate responses.

Everything syncs instantly

Pros

Across our company's multiple locations, including offices in Europe and Asia, this has been a fantastic way to stay connected. It's the best option for reaching either a group or one specific person at any time. Everything syncs instantly across devices without any issues which is a huge advantage. It really helps you stay on top of everything without having to worry about missing something.

Cons

Honestly, I don't have any real complaints about it. I'm very happy with everything, from the design and notifications to the integrations with other apps.

useful communication platform

Pros

It has been an incredibly useful communication platform. It keeps things simple while still feeling user-friendly which makes day-to-day use efficient and simple.

Cons

The Pro pricing doesn't really feel worth it. It's also a little inconvenient that the messaging platform isn't HIPAA-compliant on the standard plan and the price jump to move up to Pro just isn't very appealing.

Team communication transformed

Pros

Between tagging, threads, file sharing, channels and direct messages, it has completely changed the way teams communicate.

Cons

Threads took a bit of time to get used to and sharing images from a phone still isn't ideal.

keeps everything job-related organized

Pros

Having a separate space for work conversations, discussions and chats is really helpful. It keeps everything job-related organized in one platform which means I can leave WhatsApp for personal use.

Cons

The video chat still needs improvement if they want to keep up with the standard Microsoft Teams is setting.

Combines direct and group messaging

Pros

Working remotely, I rely on it every day because it combines direct and group messaging with integrations for document-sharing tools which makes collaboration much more efficient.

Cons

There honestly aren't many downsides. The built-in video calling isn't the strongest since calls can drop or the connection quality can be spotty but the Zoom integration works really well and that's what I usually use instead.

Vital for our office

Pros

It is a core part of our daily workflow in a busy pediatric office and honestly, we couldn't function without it.

Cons

It can get pretty expensive especially once you're managing a larger team.

Provides professional environment

Pros

Slack helps organize the team and improves communication in a more professional and focused environment.

Cons

It has frequent issues with file handling and that's a critical feature they really need to improve.

You can use it right away

Pros

Getting started with it takes almost no effort. The app feels very fast and people can sit down, open it and begin using it right away without needing any training.

Cons

An annoyance is the call widget disappearing during use. When that happens, you have to return to the conversation to bring it back and there's no shortcut for it.

Works well as a workplace communication platform

Pros

It comes with a wide range of features and works really well as a workplace communication platform. One thing I really appreciate is being able to create separate channels so I only get updates that actually relate to the group I'm part of. Anyone who has been stuck on a group email chain that had nothing to do with them knows just how valuable that is.

Cons

Getting started with it can be challenging and the app doesn't feel especially user-friendly at first. A lot of people I've talked to, along with myself, felt pretty overwhelmed in the beginning and had a hard time figuring things out. If you're moving over from another product, the transition can be especially tough.

Feels logical right away

Pros

Using it feels really natural right away. The interface is very user-friendly and it honestly comes across like WhatsApp for work.

Cons

The only minor inconvenience was the file sending limits although that seems to depend more on the organization's settings than on Slack itself.

Channel-based communication and file sharing

Pros

Being able to communicate with specific groups through dedicated channels is what I appreciate most about this software. Each channel has its own link which makes collaboration more organized and sharing documents there is also very convenient.

Cons

Some channels require dual authentication even after logging in to access the workspace URL. That means the user still has to enter a code sent by email which can feel unnecessary. It's probably something the organizer enforces but I think users should also have the option to decide whether they actually need dual authentication or not.

Keeps us constantly updated

Pros

It keeps our team communication organized really well because we can create discussion groups based on different teams and projects as needed. We're also able to assign projects and share every activity directly in the feed which helps everyone stay aligned. On top of that, sharing documents and links is very convenient. The interface is simple and clean and the platform feels very user-friendly overall. It makes day-to-day work much more convenient at the workplace and it helps us stay connected and constantly updated.

Cons

One thing that still feels missing is voice notes in threads since we can't send voice messages within the feed. Apart from that, a new user may need a few days to fully understand how everything works although it's not actually difficult to learn. On the positive side, the integration with our organization was very simple and effective and we did not face any issues during the process.

Let me set up communication channels

Pros

It was the first tool I used that really fixed the challenge of setting up communication channels for a team around the same topic, while still allowing discussions to be split into related subjects and domains. That structure remains one of its strongest points and I still see it as a very solid and reliable feature.

Cons

Beyond the originality of having multiple communication channels organized across different subjects or domains, most of the other features feel fairly standard and don't really deliver a strong "wow" factor that would make this platform feel like the obvious choice over others. The beginner experience could also be made more user-friendly and welcoming.

Awesome integration API

Pros

Its integration API is fantastic and the interface along with the group channels really changes how teams communicate and stay organized.

Cons

Once your team starts growing, the pricing gets pretty expensive. Also, on mobile, messages don't get saved to send later if you're offline.

Properly categorized conversations

Pros

The calls and channels work really well and do an effective job of keeping conversations organized and properly categorized.

Fits large organizations

Pros

It is easily one of the best platforms for staying connected with coworkers in a business environment and it can work for personal use too. It supports thousands of team members so it fits very large organizations without issue. File sharing is really useful and I also appreciate that files can be restricted so only a specific group of members can access them. On top of that, it feels very secure and simple to use. The interface looks modern and attractive and the desktop app adds even more functionality especially for remote communication and teleconferencing. Another big plus is that the app is completely free.

Cons

Up to this point, I haven't run into any real problems with the software. The only limitation worth mentioning is that it's not the best choice if you need something mainly for private, one-on-one communication since it was clearly built with businesses and larger groups in mind.

Excellent UI

Pros

The app organizes information very well. Being able to create separate channels for each project or purpose helps teams stay structured and work in a much more organized way. On top of that, the user interface looks excellent and the app is very user-friendly.

Cons

You have to pay US$7 per user to unlock collaboration for the whole team, even though not everyone uses it the same way. Some users only reply to messages, while others actually make use of all the features.

Suited for a professional environment

Pros

Compared with GroupMe, this felt much better suited for a professional environment. I hadn't even heard of Slack before using it but it turned out to be a really effective way to communicate at work. Being able to create unlimited channels with anyone you need is a huge plus and the snooze option for messages is also really useful when you want to come back to something later.

Cons

One thing that bothered me was something I only realized because of the terms and conditions which most people probably do not spend much time reading. It seems important to know that the person who creates a channel or the one who adds you, can see all of your conversations with other people. I was not comfortable with that at all.
