The terms UAT and UTA are often confused, as both are used within the software. UAT is short for ‘unallocated time’ while UTA stands for ‘UKG time and attendance’. As UAT is related to employee time management, it is crucial to understand what it is and how it works to ensure accurate time-tracking and payroll.
Note: UltiPro was acquired by Kronos to form UKG Software, leading to the name UKG Time and Attendance.

In this article, we’ll explain in detail what UAT is and how you can use it in your day-to-day work.
Unallocated time (UAT) is the time that is usually considered unpaid and reflects the period when an employee was away from work. It's different from breaks and other unpaid time.
How Does UAT Work In UltiPro?
The UAT code is shown on the timesheet, along with other codes like work and paid time off. If an employee doesn’t select the break code or any other given time code when going for a break, the system will automatically register the time in UAT.
What Is UAT Used For In UltiPro?
UAT is used to track employee time if they forget or fail to register their work hours in a specific time code like ‘Meals’ or ‘Break Time’. It helps keep a record of all such unspecified time slots, enabling managers to make adjustments and identify employees’ unassigned break trends.
Employers can use the following strategies to ensure employees use the correct time codes instead of UAT.
Implementing these strategies can help lower the instances of UAT and save HR professionals from manual time adjustments.
