“Budget-friendly and well organized”

Pros

Starting my private practice with just four clients felt a lot more manageable because it has stayed affordable and helped me keep everything organized. It tracks invoices and appointments well and the built-in templates for treatment plans, DAP notes and other admin documentation have been really useful. The interface has also been a pleasure to work with and feels very user-friendly.

Cons

An issue I've run into is with canceled or missed appointments. The system still generates an invoice or begins adding a balance due for the client so I have to go back in and remove it manually.

“Nice layout”

Pros

the software felt very user friendly. Everything is laid out in a clear way so it hasn't taken much effort to learn. The client portal is also a big plus since it supports HIPAA-compliant communication between the therapist and client.

Cons

I only started using the software last month so I don't really have any specific downsides to mention at this point.

“Way simpler than other tools”

Pros

Compared with other similar tools I've used, this one feels much more simple and user-friendly.

Cons

The scheduling feature could be more organized since I still have to keep adjusting the time quite often.

“all info at one spot”

Pros

Everything is simple to handle and having all the information in one place makes the platform really convenient to use.

Cons

I'm still not completely sure whether my insurance is covered although handling my own billing isn't a problem for me. That said, the emails I've received and the online support page have both been very helpful.

“24/7 customer support”

Pros

There's a huge amount of 24/7 customer support and plenty of tutorials which makes the platform very approachable when you're just starting out and not very confident with the business side of things. It fits my needs as a clinician really well and has honestly been a big change for the better after dealing with hospital and university systems. The setup feels clean, simple, user-friendly and thorough without wasting my time.

Cons

I don't love paying for another software expense, even though I do see it as a necessary one. I'm also still not entirely clear on the difference between the Basic and Professional plans.

“Handles notes, scheduling, treatment plans, credit card processing”

Pros

Out of all the EHR platforms I tested before choosing it for my therapy practice, this one felt the most user-friendly. I was looking for a single system that could handle everything in one place, notes, scheduling, treatment plans, credit card processing, billing, receipts and more. Having my practice fully paperless now has been a huge plus.

Cons

the lack of customization in the client self-scheduling interface bothers me. I can't even change the colors or add my logo which makes it feel pretty limited.

“organizes insurance billing perfectly”

Pros

The biggest reason I chose it over other EHRs was how much it organizes insurance billing. A lot of other systems let you complete a 1500 form but then you still have to download it and upload it into an insurance clearinghouse yourself. With it, I can send insurance claims directly from the platform which saves a lot of extra steps. On top of that, when you're set up for electronic ERAs with insurance companies, the payment reports come straight into it so there's no need to manually enter claim payments.

Cons

It works well enough for dietitians but it definitely feels more geared toward therapists than fully built for nutrition professionals. There are a few useful features missing like food and exercise logging tools that some dietitian-focused EHRs include. I also wish there were a built-in fax option so I could send progress notes to clients' doctors without using something separate. Another issue came up when I was customizing a long electronic intake form, I had trouble rearranging questions because moving them around kept shifting other questions out of place. It would also help if the client portal allowed handouts to be sorted into folders since right now they just appear in one long list which makes organization harder.

“Ability to send docs to clients”

Pros

Getting started with it was very simple and using it day to day has been just as simple. Setting my availability and approving appointments is quick and I really appreciate being able to send documents to clients when I confirm their first appointment.

Cons

The app still misses some important functions though. I'm not able to write progress notes in the app and I also can't open the initial questionnaire there.

“covers all bases”

Pros

It covers everything I need for my small private practice, from scheduling and clinical notes to taking credit card payments.

Cons

Using it can feel more complicated than it needs to be. For example, I sometimes get turned around when updating forms and then trying to find that information afterward. A lot of it comes down to how the system is organized which takes time to get used to and could definitely be made simpler.

“Central hub”

Pros

Having everything in one place has been a huge plus and being able to sync my calendar makes a real difference. I use several different platforms so keeping my calendar connected saves me a lot of time and cuts down on the usual hassle.

Cons

I'm not sure at this point. I haven't been using it long enough to run into anything I dislike yet.

“false advertising”

Pros

The platform is fairly user friendly although it's not quite as user-friendly as some of the other programs I've worked with.

Cons

My biggest frustration was the false advertising. I joined the 30-day trial fully planning to buy a plan once it ended but about a week before the trial was over, I received an email from the CEO saying the price would go up when I purchased it. There was no option to reply to that email and when I reached out to support, all I got were canned responses. I had already spent hours uploading client data into the system one client at a time because there was no direct import from my previous software. Now I'm stuck exporting everything again while I search for a different program. Even though they only allow imports from CSV files, there's no way to export data as CSV which means even more wasted time removing clients one by one. Consumers should be very cautious about how they may be treated here.

“Made the transition easier”

Pros

Getting my private practice up and running has felt much more manageable with this software. The platform is user-friendly which has made the transition a lot less overwhelming over the past few months. Whenever I'm unsure how to do something, I can usually find step-by-step guides or watch the tutorial videos to learn how to use the different features.

Cons

I'm still pretty new to the software so I don't have many complaints at this point. If I had to mention one, it would probably be the $10 increase in pricing.

“very easy to use”

Pros

Very easy to use overall and it's simple to log in and navigate without much trouble.

Cons

Customer support has been the biggest frustration. There's no phone number to call and I'm not always able to get the live chat to open which is especially stressful when you're just starting out in private practice.

“Well integrated solutions”

Pros

I really appreciate how it tries to bring the different parts of my work together in one place. The software itself is fairly simple to use and having appointment reminders and billing built in has been very helpful. Payment processing has worked without any problems for me so far which takes a lot off my plate. I also value being able to send clients electronic intake paperwork, along with assessment and screening forms. Having a phone app available has been a plus as well.

Cons

Where it becomes frustrating is in building screening and assessment forms because everything has to be entered line by line and you can't duplicate previous response choices the way you can in SurveyMonkey. It would also be very useful if the system could total numerical responses and generate graphs so I could quickly see where clients fall in terms of normative symptoms and even share that visual with them. I understand that's a more advanced feature but it's something I would absolutely pay extra for. The phone app is also not user-friendly and it offers very limited functionality. I use AdvancedMD too and their mobile app is excellent, honestly better than their desktop version because it's easier to navigate and includes options comparable to the desktop platform. I also wish SimplePractice included integrated faxing so receiving and sending client records could happen in one system. It feels like that should naturally come with a records service and it's frustrating to have to pay for another service and juggle multiple systems. On top of that, I had only just signed up and was informed after one month that the price was increasing. Another major issue is accessibility, I'm disabled and have difficulty using my wrists so I rely on Dragon dictation software but this program is not compatible with it. Because of that, I'm forced to use Microsoft voice recognition instead which is less accurate and much harder to work with.

“Transparent pricing”

Pros

Running a small private practice with this platform comes with a lot of useful features, including a client portal, scheduling, a screening form for new clients and customizable templates. The pricing is clear and reasonable, especially with options for new providers or those with a lower client volume. I also appreciated not being constantly pushed to buy add-ons or extra products by sales which has been an issue for me with other software.

Cons

many of the integrations they advertise did not perform as well as competing platforms. I originally picked Luminello because it was geared toward mental health and seemed like an all-in-one solution for my small private practice. In reality, I still had to rely on separate vendors for scheduling, billing, prescribing, labs and Telehealth which made the experience feel fragmented for both me and my clients. I also liked the idea of client intake forms automatically carrying over into notes but that feature did not work well in practice since the intake note had to match the form exactly.

“worth the investment”

Pros

The extra layer of HIPAA protection is the part I appreciate most about this software. I'm pretty cautious about staying compliant so it gives me peace of mind knowing my clients' information is being kept highly confidential and handled with a strong level of security.

Cons

At the beginning it felt like a lot of information to take in all at once. I had to look up how to complete notes and intake forms several times which took extra time. After you learn your way around it though, the payoff is definitely worth it.
