“Can send reminders, schedule appointments, write notes”

Pros

Running our practice through this service has been such a positive experience. The biggest reason we were drawn to it was being able to handle almost everything in one place. We can send reminders, schedule appointments, write notes and send invoices all from the same website which is a huge win for us.

Cons

The cost does feel a bit high but we still really value the all-in-one setup.

“Satisfied user”

Pros

This product felt incredibly user friendly. It really seems built with the administrative needs of mental health professionals in mind. I hardly needed to adjust any settings at all and it was very simple to get up and running. Overall, I'm very happy with the program.

Cons

credit card processing fee feels extremely high. For a small business like mine, where I only see clients once a week, that cost adds up quickly and feels pretty expensive.

“Simple yet effective”

Pros

The best part for me is how simple the program feels while still offering a lot. It's basically like having an assistant handling all the paperwork without the added expense of putting someone on payroll.

Cons

I wish the trial period lasted longer. Therapy Notes gave two months which felt more generous.

“Pleasant onboarding process”

Pros

I'm still too new to give a full opinion since I just signed up but the onboarding process has been pleasant so far. Getting started was simple and the setup felt good right up until the point where data importing comes into play.

Cons

The software appears to require providers to have every client enter their own insurance information. I recently canceled another portal because of that exact process so I really don't want to put my clients through the same thing again.

“Instant deployment”

Pros

switching to it was a relief because it felt user-friendly right away and I was able to get it up and running very quickly. I had been using a different platform before that cost more and was far more complicated and getting it implemented took a lot of time and support. The learning curve there was eating up too much of my time. With this tool, I was able to bring it into my practice almost immediately after starting the free trial.

Cons

I'd still want more direct and simpler access to a real person for support.

“Central hub for practice management”

Pros

Something that's been really useful is having different parts of the practice handled in one place, client management, billing and even keeping track of employees' work. It helps with managing the day-to-day side of running the practice.

Cons

There are still a few things that could be better. For example, it would help if non-CPT coded services were available for clients to select through their portal. It would also be useful to have better client contact options for families, especially being able to list multiple children under one parent contact. On top of that, the client balance lists could be made easier to read.

“Enjoyable experience”

Pros

It has been such a relief because everything feels user-friendly and simple to work through. The pre-filled forms are especially helpful since they save time while still allowing edits when needed. Entering information, staying connected with clients and handling billing all feel simple. Compared with the software I used before which was the complete opposite, SP actually makes me excited to work in a data system which I never thought I'd say.

Cons

An issue came up when I sent a client her initial forms and portal link. She tried to reply to that email to reschedule her appointment but I never received the message. Because of that, I missed the chance to fill an open time slot. If those emails do not already include a "do not reply" notice, they definitely should. It would also be really helpful if any client reply could be routed into SP so the clinician can still receive it.

“good experience of 19 years”

Pros

Handling treatment plans, progress notes and keeping track of every client-care contact has been the simplest workflow I've used in 19 years of practice. Tasks that used to feel like a burden no longer do and I'm able to finish them the very same day.

Cons

I miss phone support. The chat and email teams are responsive and helpful but they still aren't as efficient as being able to make a quick call. I'd also like to see confirmation replies included with appointment reminders.

“Scheduling, insurance, messaging in one place”

Pros

Having scheduling, insurance, messaging and billing all together in one place is what I appreciate most about it. It's really convenient to manage everything from a single platform.

Cons

At the beginning, getting through the different video and article tutorials was a bit challenging while I was learning how to use everything.

“Keeps client information secure”

Pros

Using it has been very simple. The organizational tools are really helpful, the security around client information gives me confidence and overall it feels like having a personal assistant keeping everything on track.

Cons

I still haven't been able to sort out how to make an invoice show as "paid" without actually processing the billing through SimplePractice.

“Quick appointment reminder setup”

Pros

It has a clean, modern scheduling calendar that's simple to navigate. Setting up appointment reminders is quick and useful and the client database feels clear and user-friendly. It includes the forms I need for my practice without making things complicated. I also appreciate having the app for scheduling and the notes section is especially useful since it gives options and pulls up the previous session note.

Cons

The essential plan doesn't include an intake form that can be filled out with clients during office visits. I would rather have that option than rely on the current setup, where clients need to log into the portal to complete their intake.

“Simple to follow”

Pros

The layout is simple and user-friendly and the overall format is simple to follow and navigate.

Cons

Updates to features therapists actually need tend to come slowly, while changes to less essential areas seem to get released first.

“Built-in electronic payments”

Pros

Having electronic payments built in is really convenient and the client portal does a nice job of keeping everything in one place. Automatic billing, online scheduling and the intake packets are all genuinely useful features as well.

Cons

The template library feels complex and is hard to navigate. I'd really like a way to search for templates, customize them, keep them stored in the client's portal and send forms directly to a specific client through that portal. I spent a lot of time trying to customize an ROI, send it through the client portal and have it saved there but I couldn't get it to work. In the end, I had to reach out to customer support. I'm fairly tech savvy so the forms interface felt less user-friendly than it should have been.

“fixed monthly price is a plus”

Pros

A fixed monthly price, built-in teletherapy and a simple layout were the biggest reasons I chose it. After testing a few other programs, this EHR felt like the cleanest and most user-friendly option. There were no surprise fees or other concerns which was a big plus. The client portal is also really helpful and I especially appreciate being able to create forms and save the templates I use most often.

Cons

you can't simply call customer service when you have a question. That said, the program is user-friendly enough that I haven't really needed much support. I have noticed there's an option to schedule time with a representative although I haven't had to try that feature yet.

“Versatile software”

Pros

This software is flexible enough to support the different needs of my practice.

Cons

I learn best by talking things through with customer support and getting direct answers to my questions. The 30-minute video conference helped a lot but I was frustrated having to rely on text support for specific questions. While I understand it can be efficient, waiting several minutes for a simple response felt unnecessary when a direct conversation could have answered it in seconds.

“Amazing treatment planner”

Pros

I've really been enjoying how quickly I could set everything up. The progress notes are convenient to complete and the treatment planner has been especially useful.

Cons

billing forms aren't sent automatically to the insurance company. My previous system would generate a billing sheet and send it out after each session note so I didn't have to handle every one separately.

“Helpful for simplifying work”

Pros

Managing multiple roles should feel much more manageable with this software. It's going to be a big help in simplifying my work, especially when it comes to insurance billing which already feels far more organized. I'll be spending less time on notes and keeping everything organized and more time maintaining balance and focusing on self-care.

Cons

The billing side is a little confusing at first but I'm starting to figure it out.
