“Simple to figure out”

Pros

The platform feels very user-friendly and it doesn't take much time to understand how things work. The layout also makes it simple to move between templates without any hassle.

Cons

Having an example client available during the free trial is helpful but once a client has been added to the system, removing them isn't very simple.

“Awesome appointment reminders”

Pros

The appointment reminders, automatic superbills and online intake paperwork have been really helpful.

Cons

The calendar could be a little stronger for group practices. I'd also love the option to block off chunks of time or mark a day as vacation so appointments can't be scheduled then or at least so there's a reminder that I'm off.

“Lives up to its name”

Pros

It really lives up to its name. The software is very user-friendly and it makes managing my business much more convenient and less time-consuming.

Cons

reaching someone by phone when an issue comes up is difficult. Email responses are usually quick but there are times when I would rather speak with someone directly.

“Not hard to understand”

Pros

Getting started with the software was simple and it didn't take much time to understand how everything worked.

Cons

Trying to get a blank ROI after a client had already signed one was frustrating.

“Customizable templates that simplify work”

Pros

It really does make running a practice feel simple. The standout for me is the templates, along with how much flexibility there is to customize documents and forms.

Cons

I'd still want the ability to add signature boxes to more documents. That would be really helpful for anyone who needs to sign off on another person's notes or paperwork.

“Gentle onboarding”

Pros

It felt very manageable because the onboarding was gentle and never overwhelming. The platform is also very user-friendly and having telehealth and video conferencing built in is a huge plus.

Cons

More flexibility for collecting payments instead of being funneled directly to Stripe as the only option would be nice.

“Quick access to my EHR”

Pros

The online features are the biggest win for me with this software. The client portal, Google Calendar sync, video sessions, online scheduling, bill payment, texting, automatic appointment reminders and quick online access to my EHR all work really well together. The clean, modern look was actually what drew me to it in the first place. Customer support has also been positive overall. Sometimes live chat is available and other times I've had to reach out by email though I do wish chat were offered all the time.

Cons

My biggest wish is for more customization across the platform. I'd love more control over how the client portal looks since the visual design feels pretty limited. It would also help to customize reminder and welcome emails more fully, especially with rich text formatting. Inside the EHR, I want the option to edit individual data fields like adding items to my demographics form that matter to my practice. Having custom discrete fields for tracking PHQ-9 scores or other biometric data over time would be really valuable too. I'd also like faxing built into the system since I work closely with medical providers and that's still their main way of communicating. Another downside is the payment processing because I wish there were an alternative to Stripe which was one of the most expensive vendors I looked at.

“appreciate the video tutorials”

Pros

Coming from community mental health and social service agencies where even the most current software felt complex and took too much time to use, it has been a much more user-friendly option. I especially appreciate having access to all the video tutorials since I can go through them on my own schedule and teach myself how to use the software.

Cons

When I recently moved to my own account after previously using my supervisor's account, transferring my client information was a bit challenging. There didn't seem to be a way to export only my client data unless I either exported all of hers as well or handled my clients one at a time. It would be much more helpful if assigned clients could be selected and exported all at once in the future.

“fast scheduling via mobile app”

Pros

Most of the time I use the mobile app and it's quick and convenient for scheduling appointments and writing progress notes. The layout is clear, simple and makes documenting notes after each session feel efficient.

Cons

It is generally user-friendly but the phone app has a few issues that were frustrating at first. For instance, when setting up an individual session with code 90834, I have to remember to manually change the billing every single time because it automatically defaults to the intake code 90761. It took me a while to figure that out on my own. There are also some features in the web version that just aren't available in the app. One example is that on the app, I can only access client notes from about 2-3 months back, while on the computer I'm able to view the full note history. I understand that may just be a limitation of the app compared to the full version.

“Paperwork and billing made manageable”

Pros

This software has really organized my practice and made handling paperwork and billing much more manageable.

Cons

My previous software included unlimited free claims so I'll need to see how much extra I end up paying for billing because of the per-claim charge with SimplePractice.

“Quick notes”

Pros

Writing notes in it is quick and convenient, as long as the appointment was scheduled on my computer. I can still schedule through Google but that setup doesn't format things in a way that makes note-taking as simple. To make writing notes easier, the appointment really needs to be scheduled on a computer.

Cons

The downside is tied to that same workflow. If the appointment isn't set up on the computer, it creates limitations and on the claims side I still can't enter certain details. As an early intervention provider, I still have to rely on Qclaims to bill IFSP time.

“fantastic electronic medical record”

Pros

Having an electronic medical record built in has been fantastic and I really appreciate that clients can discover my practice, book their intake appointment and enter a credit card to keep on file all in one place.

Cons

The toughest part was transferring everything over from my previous EMR, even though their team did help make the transition more efficient.

“Lets clients quickly book a consultation”

Pros

Coming from my previous EHR, the built-in digital forms have been such a relief. Not having to deal with piles of paperwork and then scan everything in has made a big difference. I also really appreciate that text appointment reminders are part of the monthly cost and it's been helpful that clients can quickly book a consultation through my website.

Cons

I do miss having live customer support that's immediately and easily available so adjusting to that with SP has taken some time. I'm also not crazy about the wording, "let's manage expectations for your call," because it gives the impression that I need to hurry and not take up too much of the rep's time. Even so, the live chat support has been helpful and the interactions have gone well.

“instant notes and billing”

Pros

it lets me get through both my notes and billing quickly. I'm often able to finish my notes while the client is still sitting with me.

Cons

At times, dealing with denied claims can be a bit confusing. I've had to reach out to them for help figuring those out.

“Valuable features”

Pros

The features in this software have been really impressive. Client reminders are especially helpful and the accessibility overall has been wonderful.

Cons

Getting support when help is needed can be frustrating since there isn't someone I can simply call on the phone for assistance. That ends up slowing the whole experience down quite a bit.

“Offers different package options”

Pros

So easy to operate. The tutorials cover most of the questions that come up and it includes all the core tools I need to run my private practice efficiently. Billing is simple to manage and payments have been dependable. I also appreciate that there are different package options so I can pick one that actually fits my small practice instead of paying for a lot of extra features I do not need. The built-in forms and paperwork were another big plus since they made starting my private practice much more manageable.

Cons

Every now and then, while I am typing in a field, it suddenly kicks me out of the text box and I have to click back into the line to continue. It is a bit irritating but that is honestly the only issue I have run into.
