“simple to get familiar with”

Pros

it doesn't take long to get familiar with it and the built-in reminders help me stay organized by keeping track of tasks I still need to complete.

Cons

I can't reach tech support directly by phone and there's no option to receive a text or email confirmation for my appointment reminders.

“All-in-one EHR that delivers”

Pros

Getting my daily schedule by email and having it sync with Google Calendar makes staying organized really convenient. The platform keeps everything in one user-friendly EHR, including billing, scheduling, documents, forms and claims which saves a lot of time. It also helps that I can email and text patients directly from the program. On top of that, the pricing feels very reasonable for everything that's included.

Cons

It doesn't happen often but when a question comes up, support usually means searching through tutorials and help articles first. Those resources are mostly helpful but if I'm still stuck, I have to submit a ticket and wait for a response since that's the only way to reach support.

“Keeps all the billing details”

Pros

Switching to this EHR was a really good move because it's so user-friendly. All of the billing details are right there whenever I need them which saves a lot of time. The client portal has also been really helpful since clients can message me directly and even download their own superbills. I also really appreciate the automatic reminders, especially since they can be sent to whatever contact method the client prefers.

Cons

At this point, I honestly don't have any complaints. I've been very happy with everything.

“Ability to create notes”

Pros

Being able to build my own notes is the part I value most. I prefer using a format that feels natural to me and SimplePractice gives me the flexibility to do exactly that.

Cons

The biggest frustration is entering hours. Instead of typing the time directly, you have to keep clicking through the hours and minutes which feels unnecessarily time-consuming.

“So many functions”

Pros

Everything is very user-friendly and it packs a lot of features into one place.

Cons

I'd want the ability to customize services within the system like adding clinical supervision since that's something I offer as a clinical supervisor.

“Time-saving payments and superbills”

Pros

Feels very user friendly. The automatic payments and the superbills it generates save me a significant amount of time.

Cons

I'm still getting familiar with the practice document templates and they seem to be geared more toward adult clients, while I work with a lot of children and adolescents. Creating my own practice documents for younger clients has been a bit tedious so far.

“User-friendly nature”

Pros

Navigation feels very simple and compared with the software I used before, this one is much more user-friendly and thoughtfully designed.

Cons

One thing I've noticed is with client sorting. I can switch the list to alphabetical order by first name which is how I prefer to view it but after leaving the page and coming back, it resets to sorting by last name.

“Plenty of options to tailor it”

Pros

There are plenty of options to tailor it to your own style and the platform feels organized and user-friendly to use.

Cons

I'm still working through some of the billing steps so that part may just take a bit more time to fully understand.

“Logical scheduling setup”

Pros

After a month of using SP, the intake templates have been incredibly helpful. The scheduling setup makes sense and the overall layout is very clear, practical and simple to work with.

Cons

At this point, there really isn't anything I dislike. It has matched my expectations exactly.

“Way better than competitors”

Pros

Compared with other platforms I tested, it felt much more user-friendly and simple to use. I had also tried TherapyNotes and TheraNest and neither of them worked nearly as well for me. Another big plus is that it uses Stripe for payment processing which made taking payments much more convenient. I don't have to sign up for a separate payment processor or pay an extra monthly fee like you do with some other systems.

Cons

getting my calendar to appear properly on my Android device is frustrating. Even though it is synced with my Google Calendar, for some reason that still is not carrying over to my phone. It is annoying because when I need to quickly check my availability, I end up having to look at two different calendars. I realize this could be something I am missing on my end but I still have not been able to sort it out.

“Versatile features for therapists”

Pros

Having a range of features built for therapists has been really valuable for my practice. The intake forms and session note templates are especially helpful and the ability to customize them makes them even better. The client portal and scheduling tools also work very well. Automatic invoicing saves me a lot of time.

Cons

Automatic invoicing helps keep billing and income current but bookkeeping for a therapist involves much more than that. It would be much better if the platform offered a full bookkeeping solution for therapists, including a way to track money going out like office rent, equipment, advertising and owner draws. As a Canadian user, my SimplePractice bill changes from month to month which increases the chance of bookkeeping mistakes and makes budgeting harder. It would be much better if they followed the approach of services like Psychology Today and charged Canadian customers a fixed fee in Canadian dollars. Also since I take notes with an electronic pencil, I'd love the option to import those session notes into it or better yet, have a secure, encrypted handwriting feature built in.

“inclusive gender options for clients”

Pros

The inclusive gender options for clients is a big plus. The client portal is simple for clients to navigate, the new client scheduling feature is excellent and the telehealth option works really well while fitting in smoothly. Automated appointment reminders are also a huge help.

Cons

Would love the ability to customize the client portal and online forms with my own logo and colors. It would also be helpful to set automatic reminders farther into the future like sending a follow-up reminder three months later.

“modern layout”

Pros

Those daily emails with the weather and my schedule are such a nice touch and the layout looks sleek and modern. I had been using TherapyNotes before switching to SimplePractice and that platform felt a little sterile by comparison. Really glad I made the move.

Cons

The only thing I'd like to see improved is a more simple way to import clients from other software used before moving to SP.

“Flexibility is a big plus”

Pros

the flexibility of this product has been a big plus for me. I can tailor the software to fit the way I work and that customization makes it much more useful for my needs. It's also very responsive, with no lag when entering data or moving between screens which makes daily tasks feel efficient. The reminders to complete tasks are another feature I really appreciate because they help me stay on top of everything.

Cons

I haven't run into any real downsides at this point. The only thing I'd still like to see added is two-factor authentication.

“Helpful bot responses”

Pros

Just started the switch from my previous provider and the process has been very simple. The short video tutorial and the bot responses have both been surprisingly helpful.

Cons

It does cost more than my last provider so I'm hoping the higher price ends up being worth it.
