“Helpful pre-filled assessments”

Pros

The pre-filled options for client assessments were really helpful and something I appreciated a lot.

Cons

I'm still getting used to the program so I'm not fully sure about all the details yet.

“awesome insurance claim submission feature”

Pros

Running a small practice is much more manageable with this software because it's user-friendly and simple to navigate. I also really appreciate being able to customize the style of my progress notes and the insurance claim submission feature has been a big help.

Cons

it feels a bit expensive for a small business although it's still the best option I've used so far.

“Flexible calendar”

Pros

Right away, the core tools for managing clients, payments and session details have felt very simple to use. The Stripe credit card integration has also been especially simple to set up and work with. I've created a few SuperBills and monthly statements and not only do they look polished but the system can also generate them automatically and send them directly to my clients without any extra effort from me. That one feature alone is going to save me about three hours every month which means more free weekend time. On top of that, the calendar is very user-friendly and flexible and it has easily become one of the strongest parts of the software for me.

Cons

I really haven't come across anything I dislike about SimplePractice. It's possible I'll notice something later once I move past the strong core features and get deeper into areas like video sessions or insurance integration. Even so, from my initial testing and review, those features also seem very promising.

“Multiple ways to get help”

Pros

Everything about it feels very user-friendly to use and whenever questions come up, there are several different ways to get help.

Cons

I haven't run into any real problems with it so far. The Stripe credit card feature is useful but it's taking around a week for the money to reach my account after the fees are deducted. I may look into a better option for that.

“Doesn’t feel bulky”

Pros

The platform feels clean, organized and very simple to work with. Even with all the features I need, it never feels bulky or overloaded.

Cons

creating a SOAP note requires the appointment to be entered in the calendar which is inconvenient since I use a different calendar system.

“fast responses from support”

Pros

tutorials have been really useful and whenever I've had questions, the customer service team has been quick to respond and very helpful.

Cons

There's definitely a bit of a learning curve at the beginning and a few parts of the system feel like they could be made more organized.

“Clients like it”

Pros

Having everything I need in one platform has been a huge plus. The system is very user friendly and my clients have shared positive feedback about it as well.

Cons

The only real downside is that there isn't live support although I've still gotten quick responses whenever I've emailed questions.

“Safe and secure”

Pros

There's a lot built into the platform, especially the wide range of templates and the customizable emails, forms and documents needed to manage a private practice. The client portal is also really helpful and handling paperwork feels simple while everything stays stored securely online.

Cons

The only downside is having to wait until I get a client with the insurance I'm credentialed for before I can enroll but it's not a major issue since the claims will still be paid eventually.

“HIPAA-compliant teletherapy option”

Pros

After more than a decade of running my practice the same way, I kept avoiding an EHR because I assumed switching would be too difficult. Once I tried the free trial though, I was genuinely surprised by how user-friendly it was. Being able to send paperwork to clients electronically has made things much more convenient and I also appreciate cutting down on paper use. I needed a HIPAA-compliant teletherapy option as well and it's portal has been very simple to use for both me and my clients.

Cons

An area that really needs improvement is the inclusivity of the template paperwork. I work with many clients who are gender-questioning, transgender and nonbinary and I had to revise a lot of the wording so they would feel acknowledged and included. There is also at least one section of a form with restrictive gender options that cannot be edited which is frustrating enough that I specifically address it in my welcome message so clients know it does not reflect my own practice. I have also heard from colleagues that they have been asking SimplePractice to update this for years and it is disappointing that this change still has not been made.

“budget-friendly EHR”

Pros

It's a budget-friendly EHR that still includes all the features a solo private practice provider needs, without constantly charging extra for every little thing.

Cons

I still haven't used the full EHR system yet since I'm in the middle of moving everything over. One thing I'm a little concerned about is submitting claims and accidentally leaving out an important detail that could lead to a denial. My previous EHR had a button you could click that would flag anything missing. This system may have something similar, I just haven't gotten far enough into the billing side to test that yet.

“Smooth performance”

Pros

Right from the start, the platform felt very user-friendly. I was able to add my client information, send out my practice documents electronically and begin video sessions almost immediately after signing up.

Cons

Sometimes I notice a delay in the audio while using the video platform.

After getting the hang of it, the platform is pretty simple to use and navigate.

“Not hard to contact support”

Pros

Navigation feels very simple, getting in touch with the support team is quick and it includes everything I need to run things effectively.

Cons

Parts of the billing and invoicing workflow can still be confusing at times and I'm also not completely sure yet how I want to use the client portal.

“Useful document creation tools”

Pros

The patient portal, appointment calendar, document creation tools, training videos and built-in messaging all work really well and make the platform useful day to day.

Cons

The billing and ledger side still needs some refinement, especially when it comes to access and entering data. Another limitation is that non-clinical office managers and records staff can't access forms which becomes a real problem for in-house team members responsible for printing completed administrative documents like privacy notices, releases and service consents, as well as checking that those forms were filled out correctly. Since it only allows clinicians to access them, those staff members can't properly handle the duties assigned to them.

“fantastic online knowledge base”

Pros

Getting online scheduling, intake forms and payment processing up and running was pretty simple. The online knowledge base is also genuinely helpful when you need answers or want to learn how something works.

Cons

appointment workflow can be better since every appointment has to be confirmed manually. It's not a huge problem but it can take a lot of time if you're managing a high-volume practice.

“Billing feels organized”

Pros

Getting new clients into the system is very simple and the billing setup feels well organized. The client portal is also really useful for sending practice details and consent forms.

Cons

DAP notes aren't included unless you pay for an upgrade. I also wish daily client appointments were easier to access for note writing, instead of having to open each individual file to handle billing and documentation.

“Lets me log in from anywhere”

Pros

Having so many private practice tasks handled in one application has been a huge plus. Being able to log in from anywhere means I don't need to carry files, contacts or other information around with me. I can finish notes and bill clients from home, even while lying in bed at night which has been incredibly convenient.

Cons

Getting comfortable with the forms took a bit of time. I also wish there were an option to upload my own logo or letterhead for billing.

“paperwork and billing in one place”

Pros

It brings all my paperwork and billing together in one user-friendly place which has been such a relief. That was honestly my biggest concern going in and now I've been up and running for weeks and the whole process has been incredibly simple.

Cons

I'm still a little unsure about how the insurance part works in the system.

“Phenomenal onboarding support”

Pros

During onboarding stage, I've been really pleased with how much support is available for new users. I'm definitely not new to technology but until now all of my billing was handled through a large agency so I hadn't been directly involved in things like claim submission and related processes. SimplePractice and Smart Billing Pro offer helpful resources that make it easier for clinicians to learn the platform and I was even able to book a 30-minute one-on-one video call with one of their representatives. That extra support has been very useful in helping me get fully up to speed and feel comfortable using the software.

Cons

It still feels fairly complex to me and some parts of the system aren't especially user-friendly.
