pay history and benefits done right

Pros

As an employee rather than an admin, this software has worked really well for what I need. I can quickly look back through my pay history from years ago and handling time cards and employee requests is simple. The benefits enrollment tools are also a nice part of the experience.

Cons

Tracking down employee PTO requests can be a bit tricky if I'm not opening them from the notification emails. It usually takes four or five clicks to get to that section. Aside from that, I really don't have any complaints.

all-in-one hr hub

Pros

Paycor does a lot more than simple time tracking. Employees can log their hours and submit PTO requests, while also having access to pay stubs and benefits in the same place. Benefits enrollment happens right inside the platform and it's also useful for sending company communications through Paycor.

Cons

Getting familiar with the navigation was a bit challenging at the beginning. There's definitely a learning curve but after using it for a while, it starts to make sense.

broken support and costly mess

Pros

At a basic level, this software is fairly user-friendly and not hard to navigate. Compared with ADP Workforce Now, it's much simpler to locate what you need.

Cons

The sales promises never matched the reality. We were told we'd have a dedicated support team but that never happened because they moved to a centralized support model. Our so-called senior implementation specialist was terrible and didn't properly finish setting up the system. It took four months to get our PTO plans configured, including two months after we had already started running payroll and even then the setup was still wrong. Their tax management is also very disappointing. Customer support may as well not exist, even though they give you multiple ways to reach them. Website support tickets don't work, emailing support gets nowhere and calling means sitting through wait times of five hours or more. On another client, it took five months to get PTO set up and the only reason it finally happened was because I searched LinkedIn for customer success managers, guessed their email addresses and got lucky. They charge far too much for what they deliver and their pricing is not transparent. One of our client codes is tied to our nonprofit division and random taxes would appear on the bill without ever being refunded. Paycor has delivered the exact opposite of what we were sold and the only reason we are still using them is because I can't even get someone on the phone to cancel the contract. There's also very little control over company settings so you're stuck depending on support that never actually helps. Honestly, avoid this company completely.

user-friendly payroll with major support gaps

Pros

Getting around the software feels user-friendly and using it is pretty simple. Most of the time, running payroll is a breeze.

Cons

Support has basically been nonexistent. Problems started during implementation because the team didn't understand what we were asking for and failed to set the system up correctly. At times, they didn't even seem to understand how their own software worked especially when it came to accruals. On top of that, we've been dealing with payroll tax filing issues with Paycor for the past nine months.

Support disappears after setup

Pros

They do a strong job helping you get everything up and running. After that though, the customer support is basically nonexistent. Expect to sit on hold for hours and still not get responses to emails. I'd strongly recommend staying away from this service.

Cons

Customer service is the biggest problem , Paycor simply does not have enough support staff.

helpful tools for goal planning

Pros

Using this software for goal planning has been really helpful because it comes with a lot of different functions. It gives my supervisor a way to hold 1:1 meetings with me and it also lets me map out my personal goals for my role.

Cons

There are just a lot of things to navigate through.

goals and feedback stay organized

Pros

As someone who pays close attention to details, being able to set my own monthly and quarterly goals and check them off is really satisfying. It also helps keep my 1-on-1s, bottom-up and reverse feedback and ongoing conversations front and center.

Cons

Outside of the Objectives section, the 1-on-1 templates and peer reviews, I really do not use much else. I'm also not very sure how the other features connect to my role or how I'm supposed to use them.

all-in-one people management

Pros

7 Geese is simple to use and brings together many of the key tools needed for managing people like 1x1s, objectives and check-ins. It's really convenient having everything you need in one place.

Cons

The newest update with the redesigned navigation doesn't feel very convenient at the moment though that may just be because it was recently released and I still need a bit more time to get used to it.

Centralized performance conversations

Pros

Having all performance management workflows and conversations in one place has been really valuable. Everything stays accurate and up to date and it creates space for more meaningful discussions around OKRs and current workloads.

Cons

The reporting side is still a challenge because it's not very simple. I often need to reach out to support to help me pull the data I'm looking for and I'd really like that process to be more simplified so I can access what I need on my own.

helpful progress tracking tools

Pros

Keeping up with personal, team and company-wide progress throughout the year felt very simple. It was also really useful for scheduling peer meetings, handling the year-end review process with customized review templates and moving around the platform without confusion.

Cons

One area that could use improvement is rescheduling or postponing one-on-one meetings. There's also no way to fix things if someone accidentally finalizes a meeting or submits a review form by mistake.

convenient and efficient workflow

Pros

Using it has been really convenient. It doesn't take up unnecessary time from busy employees which makes it much easier to stay focused on the actual work we were hired to do. Compared with the performance measurement tools I used at my previous company, this one has been much better.

Cons

There's nothing I dislike about it.

broken approvals and messy setup

Pros

At least they claim we can work with our own benefits broker.

Cons

This platform fell far short of what was promised during sales and signup. Onboarding was not provided the way it was discussed and a lot of the sales claims turned out to be misleading. Timecard approvals are basically pointless because records can still be changed afterward, even after approval by the employee, supervisor and company administrator which leaves no real way to ensure accuracy. On top of that, nobody can approve or lock timecards until after the pay period ends, usually on a Friday which makes it highly impractical for companies dealing with alternate schedules, holidays or vacations. The employee Document Library only accepts PDF files so common business file types like Word and Excel cannot be stored there. Tracking and paying contractors, consultants and 1099-NEC workers still was not functioning properly after several weeks and that created extra cost, stress, confusion, frustration and wasted time. The registration questions and interface are confusing and sometimes they do not even apply. The system also tries to handle contractors like employees and tax them the same way. The implementation process made things worse because the team left out some paycheck deductions and several items were never imported. Then we were told to go back in and manually fix everything ourselves for both contractors and employees.

Outdated guides and confusing reports

Pros

We chose this software mainly because payroll processing is very simple and it fits a small manufacturing company really well. The implementation was planned out thoughtfully and, aside from one issue, the rollout went pretty well.

Cons

The how-to guides are difficult to follow and often don't match what the platform actually does now. Reporting is also confusing to work through, I've had to contact support just to build the reports I needed. I also haven't come across any instructions that clearly explain how to configure a report to pull the specific information required.

Long holds and broken promises

Pros

The self-service tools are solid, the interface looks good and the mobile employee features work well especially the GPS-based mobile punch option.

Cons

A big frustration is that it does not integrate with QuickBooks, even though that is how it was presented to me during the sale. The back-end process for moving data into the general ledger is complex and the customer service is awful. Getting a real person on the phone usually means waiting at least an hour and I have personally sat on hold for more than three hours over an issue that should have taken no more than 10 minutes to resolve.

excellent OKR tracking and support

Pros

Having quick access to create, track, manage and review OKRs for both myself and employees has been fantastic. The level of detail in the system, along with the performance features it offers, makes it comfortable and efficient to handle everything I need. On top of that, the support team has been outstanding and has always been there whenever I've needed help.

Cons

There's not much I can really criticize. The only notable improvement I'd suggest would be adding more ways to track and view progress such as by complete/incomplete status or by percentages, dollar amounts and similar metrics.

helpful preboarding workflow

Pros

One of the best parts of this software is being able to email new hires ahead of their start date so they can take care of paperwork like tax forms and the I-9 before day one.

Cons

Using the system can be frustrating because it is not very user-friendly and many tasks take several steps and clicks across different windows which ends up being pretty time consuming.

reliable reviews and recognition

Pros

Keeping up with 1:1s, twice-yearly reviews and 360 feedback has worked really well with this tool. The templates make setup very simple and quick. The recognition feature is clear and user-friendly too which is why our company ends up using it a lot. The site itself has also been dependable, with no major bugs or issues that get in the way of using it.

Cons

One thing that's still missing is a better way to book a room for a scheduled 1:1 and include a video meeting link at the same time like through a Zoom integration. Right now, we still have to manage duplicate invites, one from 7G and another from Google Calendar. Also, after the recent design refresh, the page content is aligned to the left instead of centered and I'd love to see that changed back at some point.
