“Solid for setting up objectives”
Pros
Amazing how powerful it is for setting up objectives, tying them directly into employee 1-on-1s and providing tools to monitor progress over time. They've also recently introduced really strong tracking features for career development and succession planning which adds a lot of value.
Cons
Getting around the software can feel a little complex at first and visually it's not the most polished option available. That said, those tradeoffs have been well worth it for a platform with this level of depth and functionality.

“team recognition that fits us”
Pros
Being able to recognize our team for the things that matter most to us has been a big plus. It's highly customizable so it really matches our company culture well.
Cons
The process for setting up objectives can be a little complex especially depending on who needs to be accountable for those objectives.

“Pay statements at a glance”
Pros
It gives me a clear place to check all of my hours and paid statements. I can also download PDF copies of each bi-weekly paycheck whenever I need them.
Cons
The only real downside came up when I was trying to sign up. I had an old account from a previous job and it took a while to get that removed. If you don't have an older account tied to it, you probably won't run into that issue.

“glad with our decision”
Pros
Getting everything up and running was really simple and it's awesome that the system takes care of updates on its own. We used to manage OKRs in Word and this is a huge improvement over that. The site looks really nice and I'm sure there are still plenty of features I haven't explored yet. I also appreciate how it keeps everything structured and organized. The weekly reminders have honestly been a lifesaver.
Cons
At this point I really can't think of anything I dislike about the software. Switching to this tool feels like a very smart decision by our company.

“efficient payroll processing”
Pros
It works really well with our payroll software and that has made payroll processing a lot more efficient. Before this, I had to manually enter everyone's hours so having that integration in place has been a huge improvement.
Cons
We do run into occasional problems with the biometric time clock. At times it seems to be a sensitivity issue and asks people to try again several times. The most frustrating problems have been disrupted syncing or punches not getting recorded but thankfully those situations don't happen very often.

“Keeps improving”
Pros
Paycor keeps improving the software based on what users actually need. The database for building custom reports fits our needs really well especially when we're putting together budgets and forecasts for our diocese.
Cons
This is a very comprehensive software package so it's not something you can just pick up without any training. After a user learns the basics though, moving through the screens becomes much more manageable.

“quick access to everything”
Pros
accessing vacation and sick balances, pay stubs and employee information is fast and convenient whenever I need it. The app is very user-friendly and simple to navigate.
Cons
I've really enjoyed using it so far. The only occasional issue is that our HR department doesn't always keep things updated but that isn't related to the app itself.

“Convenient on the go”
Pros
Being able to check Paid Time Off, pay stubs and important HR information anytime and from anywhere is really convenient especially when I'm on the go. It's also very useful having this software serve as an HR database.
Cons
The software doesn't stay current with company information very well. The app always feels like it's running a week or two behind.

“Easy to learn”
Pros
Coming into Newton ATS without much background using systems like this, I was surprised by how manageable it was to learn. The setup didn't feel overly complicated and the help tab turned out to be incredibly valuable whenever I had questions about certain tools or features. It's packed with articles and videos so there was almost always a clear answer available for whatever I needed. Newton also made the whole hiring process feel far less intimidating. Being able to post job openings to multiple boards at the same time, move candidates through the pipeline with the thumbs up/thumbs down option and use preset email templates for everyone involved in interviews helped us hire people faster than we ever had before. On top of that, the DocuSign integration is a huge plus.
Cons
It has a lot of strong features but at times it can feel a little overwhelming simply because there is so much happening within the system.

“complex website”
Pros
Whenever I've needed help, the customer service team has been excellent and very quick to solve problems.
Cons
The company-facing website is set up very poorly. Reports are difficult to locate, onboarding new employees is frustrating and the whole system really needs to be more user-friendly and much simpler to navigate.

“Buggy systems”
Pros
An area where it does help is scheduling. The Pro version includes a team chat feature that works reasonably well as a basic communication tool, kind of like a simpler Slack and the scheduling setup gives us enough flexibility to handle employee schedules in a way that matches our business. We needed something that would let employees update and share their availability from week to week and Paycor mostly delivers on that. The platform is also fairly quick to learn so new users can get comfortable without much trouble. On top of that, onboarding for new hires was definitely cleaner and more simple than what we had with our previous system.
Cons
Where things really fall apart is customer support. The support staff always seem stretched too thin and it's almost impossible to actually get your assigned rep because they're juggling so many other accounts. Follow-through is weak, tasks often need constant hand-holding from our side and communication afterward is lacking. The implementation and integration experience was also disappointing because there didn't seem to be much ownership from Paycor's team in helping us get set up successfully and their communication during onboarding was seriously lacking. Another frustration is that ATS, Scheduling, Benefits and HR feel less like one platform and more like four separate systems stitched together. Most of the time they work together well enough but when they don't, the experience becomes complex and awkward. On top of that, we've run into ongoing bugs that still haven't been resolved and based on both our feedback and what other users post in the Paycor Ideas channel, there doesn't seem to be much responsiveness or urgency around making improvements from user suggestions.

What stands out as the strongest part of the app is the geo-location lock-in.

“Too costly”
Pros
Having online access is about the only benefit I can point to and honestly there isn't much else that stands out beyond that.
Cons
The platform has too many limitations, the staff doesn't seem properly trained or knowledgeable enough and support is lacking when help is needed. On top of that, the cost feels too high and the timekeeping system is another frustrating part of using it.

“Lets employees view their tax information”
Pros
Actually it works really well for keeping track of vacation hours and time-off requests. It's also helpful that employees can view their tax information electronically whenever they need it.
Cons
Its frustrating how little guidance the software gives on actually using it. You mostly have to figure out the navigation on your own which is manageable but can still be annoying. Another inconvenience is the password policy, if you forget your password, you only get three tries before your account is locked. After that, you have to reach out to the administrator for a reset. It's good from a security standpoint but it's not very convenient for users especially when you need immediate access and end up waiting days for the reset to be completed.

“Competent support team”
Pros
It has been a really solid payroll option for us especially with how responsive and helpful the customer service team is. The pricing is reasonable and it comes with a wide range of modules, including payroll, HRIS, timekeeping, reporting, benefits administration, ACA compliance, direct deposit and quarterly tax filing.
Cons
The implementation felt a little rushed at the beginning and the timekeeping piece has a few limitations when it comes to more complex pay policies but overall it hasn't caused anything too serious.

“Payroll setup was a mess”
Pros
Having full HR features combined with complete payroll processing in one system is the one part that sounded valuable.
Cons
Payroll side of this software feels like it was designed by people who have never actually run payroll. It falls short on basic things, from separating bonus wages from regular earnings for tax handling to reporting, benefit integration and plenty more. The training is unbelievably poor. They basically hand your employee a manual, point them to a call center and consider the job done. We ended up hiring an outside consultant to get through implementation because Paycor handled it so badly. The sales presentation sounds convincing but once you become a customer, the support is a huge disappointment.

“rocky payroll support experience”
Pros
The initial setup looked promising but things became difficult almost immediately. After the first payroll was processed, it took more than two months to get the general ledger working properly with QuickBooks. The people answering the phones were pleasant to deal with, at least.
Cons
A lot of the time, the person answering the phone was not actually the right one to handle the issue which led to long calls and plenty of wasted time. I was also told I would have one dedicated contact but that seemed to disappear right after the first payroll. They said they would guide me through the first few payroll submissions yet by the second one there was already a problem when an employee left the company and his final paycheck was somehow entered twice. Then they wanted to charge me to correct it although they eventually backed off. On top of that because I am a small business owner in the 2% shareholder category, my earnings were handled incorrectly and I had to recalculate the third quarter which was the only quarter they filed for us. I ended up leaving Paycor in the middle of the fourth quarter after they made another serious payroll mistake and paid an employee only $5.00 an hour which is both illegal and nowhere near his actual rate. Their explanation was that I must have pressed the button but I never changed his wage rate. I was only trying to add a reimbursement and that should not have overridden the actual pay rate but apparently that is how the software works. You would expect wage rates to be better protected by default.

“Easy to request time off”
Pros
Having Active Directory single sign-on built in is a big plus. Managers can approve time off, review time cards and fix punch issues without much hassle. On the employee side, clocking in and out is simple and it's easy to request time off and check whether it was approved or denied.
Cons
The part that still feels less clear is managing several employees at once. Moving between employee profiles quickly and locating the exact information you need is not always very obvious.
