Early recognition of danger is a fundamental part of the ALICE methodology. This feature trains individuals to remain situationally aware and to use all available senses and notification systems—such as mobile alerts or intercom announcements—to quickly recognize and communicate signs of a threat.

This strategy teaches an enhanced approach to securing a space when evacuation is not a safe option. The training goes beyond simply locking doors and instructs individuals on how to barricade entry points and fortify their location, buying critical time until help can arrive. This provides a sense of security and control in a crisis.

This feature focuses on the use of clear, accurate, and timely communication about an intruder’s location or movement. Sharing this information with others in danger, whether through public address systems or mobile devices, helps guide decision-making and empowers people to choose the safest course of action.

As a last resort, the Counter component involves creating noise, movement, and distraction to disrupt an intruder’s ability to cause harm. The strategy emphasizes distracting the assailant, not fighting them. This can create a window of opportunity for individuals to escape or take control of a situation that would otherwise be hopeless, increasing the chances of survival.

This element highlights early and quick evacuation as the best option when it is safe to do so. The training instructs participants to distance themselves from a threat, using any available exits to move to a designated rally point. This strategy promotes a proactive mindset, encouraging people to move out of the danger zone rather than remaining static.
