“Very helpful teamwork”

Pros

Adding teams is easy and it's simple to duplicate tasks and reassign them when plans change. The constant notifications also do a good job of keeping everyone aligned and connected as a team.

Cons

The paid version doesn't really add many extra day to day features beyond what's already available in the free plan.

“Visual workflows that click”

Pros

As someone who usually relies on sticky notes, this software has been a really satisfying switch. I can create new projects and look at them in either an accordion view or a list view which makes it much easier to picture the full project and keep track of all the moving pieces in one place. I use it to manage my design workflows and being able to duplicate my master workflows helps me set up individual client projects fast.

Cons

The desktop interface is simple and user friendly but navigating it on mobile seems less user friendly.

“Feature rich but too inflexible”

Pros

It comes packed with just about every feature you could want. New functionality keeps getting added regularly and the mobile app tools are really well done.

Cons

Even with everything it offers, I never really connected with it because the setup felt too complex. I tend to prefer tools like Trello that fit more naturally into the way I already work and think, instead of making me change my whole process.

“Flexible upgrades”

Pros

This tool is pretty easy to use and I was able to feel comfortable with it without much of a learning curve. It also helps that you can start on the free plan and move up later once you're ready for more advanced features like reporting, portfolios and integrations.

Cons

The free version does miss some of the more advanced capabilities that would be nice to have and the paid plans can end up costing more than other tools like Basecamp especially as your team size grows.

Pros

Breaking tasks down into clear action steps has been really helpful. It also works well for assigning work across the team and keeping an eye on each task's progress.

Cons

At times I wish it connected with our email system so everything could be managed in one place.

Pros

After looking at a lot of tools in this space this one ended up covering our use cases better than the rest. My head of product could probably get into the finer details but from our perspective it gives us a lot of flexibility without driving up the cost which made it a very good choice.

Cons

It's not flawless though. Some of the newer updates have restricted a bit of the functionality around how we display data for certain items in the task list. There are also times when I wish tasks could be followed in more of a storyboard-style view although that matters less for software development use cases and other platforms handle that approach better.

“Task bucketing works really well”

Pros

Organizing work into buckets or separate task groups is very easy and setting up subtasks under a main task is just as simple. That structure makes it much easier to keep everything broken down and manageable.

Cons

At times tracking down specific items can be a bit frustrating. I'd also like better options for linking tasks to other software we use to monitor our work and overall it seems a little less user friendly than some of the other agile tools I have worked with before.

“Helpful accountability”

Pros

Asana works really well for keeping everyone accountable and making it clear how progress is tracking against goals. It's especially helpful for group projects and team collaboration since updates are visible and people can stay aligned more easily.

Cons

It adds extra steps that feel a bit redundant. It also took a while to fully work into our day to day processes before it started feeling natural.

“Versatile planning”

Pros

As a project management, planning and calendar tool, it works really well. The interface is easy to use and it has good features for assigning tasks and keeping communication flowing with teammates.

Cons

Subtask management still has room for improvement. Handling linked tasks one by one can be time-consuming and shared timelines would be much better if they updated automatically. It also takes some time and effort to learn the platform well enough to use all of its features.

Pros

Keeping up with tasks is very easy and communication with other users is usually clear and easy to understand.

Cons

Sometimes I want to look back at details from completed tasks but that information seems to disappear and getting started with the platform can feel a little confusing at first.

“Helpful time tracking insights”

Pros

Adding or updating time on each project or task for every client is very easy. Also it makes it simple to check the total time spent per client, along with weekly summaries that show how both I and the rest of the team used our time.

Cons

One thing that still feels missing is a monthly summary report. In the weekly view, I can see the total time spent but the monthly view only gives a calendar-style layout with hours shown for each day and no overall total for the month.

Pros

One of the biggest selling points for me was how user friendly and relatively simple this software felt to use.

Cons

A downside is the huge volume of notifications and push alerts that come through from the different projects you're part of. There are so many that important ones can easily get overlooked.

“Flexible task scheduling wins”

Pros

Assigning tasks to specific people with defined start and end dates works really well. I can also set dependencies between tasks which makes planning much more organized. When timelines change, being able to move all the downstream tasks at once saves a lot of time and keeps me from rebuilding the whole schedule.

Cons

One thing that would make it even better is integration with the Microsoft Office Outlook calendar. Right now I still have to open the website whenever I want to check the schedule.

“Decent features, overpriced plans”

Pros

A few parts of Asana work really well. The start and end date feature is genuinely useful if you're paying for it, task duplication is handy and the different view options are decent. The animations are also cute and the colour coding is a nice standard project management feature to have.

Cons

Once I tried other, more full-featured platforms, it was hard not to notice how much it was missing for the price. Basic tools like start and end dates really should be included in the free version especially if they're not open to more flexible pricing for very small teams. Small teams still absolutely need project management software especially now when creative teams are often tiny but expected to manage huge, complicated projects. Paying $40+ a month for just two people feels unreasonable. It was also frustrating not to be able to reorder tasks the way I wanted and having calendar items show up based on whichever tag was created first made things unnecessarily awkward. Support was usually mediocre at best. The pricing and limited flexibility make even less sense when you consider how fast the small business and side-hustle space is growing and how competitors offer more at similar subscription levels. At past jobs, I also noticed that updates were rolled out with much less strategy and communication than other tools which became really irritating.

Pros

One thing I really enjoy about it is how easy it is to use. Assigning work to teammates takes almost no time and it's convenient to review completed tasks once everything is done.

Cons

The pricing feels a bit high and requiring a minimum number of teammates for the Pro version doesn't seem like a very good idea.

It turned out to be exactly the kind of project management software we needed and honestly it delivered even more than we expected. Scheduling tasks, assigning projects and monitoring the progress of each one is very easy and works really well.

Cons

I honestly didn't run into anything about the software that I disliked. I actually enjoyed getting familiar with it and learning how everything works.

Pros

I find it easy to use and bringing other users in for collaboration was simple. The interface also is clean and very usable.

Even though the interface looked clean and was usable Overall the workflow side of it didn't feel very user friendly.

Pros

One thing that really works well is how flexible it is when it comes to adding or removing functions and fields. It makes collaborating with colleagues feel very consistent and easy which has been a big plus.

Cons

It would be even better if there were more client-safe sharing options especially for project plans, without needing to rely on Instagantt.

Pros

Asana works really well for organizing team tasks, marketing calendars and important events. The layout is user friendly and most parts of it can be customized to fit different workflows.

Cons

Getting started can take some time for new users because the menus and options are not very user friendly. There are also a lot of different views but not much guidance on what each one is for or how they differ. For example, the list view does not automatically sort tasks in chronological order and it is not clearly explained why that happens or how to change it.

Working in it is very convenient especially when it comes to adding tasks and collaborating with the team. The usability is amazing and it makes organizing team work really easy.

Cons

One limitation I ran into is task assignment. A single task seems to be assigned to only one employee and I wanted to assign the same task to two or more people but couldn't find a way to do that.
