One of the features I find incredibly beneficial in FreshBooks is its mobile accessibility. In the past, I had to meet with clients, create invoices, and then return to the office to input the data on a computer. It was time-consuming, and we often missed out on payments. However, with FreshBooks, I can input data directly from my phone or tablet while in front of a client, send them an invoice, and receive payment before leaving. This convenience has made a world of difference for us.

To be honest, I havent encountered any significant cons with FreshBooks. The only initial challenge was getting our older employees to adapt to the software. However, we provided training and encouraged them to use it, and since then, it has been smooth sailing.

This tool is geared toward small businesses, freelancers and self-employed people so it doesn't really aim to cover the more advanced accounting capabilities you'd expect from a dedicated accounting platform. If you need complex accounting workflows, you may end up wanting a more powerful solution. Reporting and analytics are more basic too, there's solid financial reporting but customization and deeper analytics aren't as comprehensive as specialized accounting tools. Finally, inventory management isn't included so if inventory tracking is a major part of your business, you'll likely need to rely on integrations or choose software that handles inventory as a core feature.

Every plan also comes with time tracking and the invoicing tools are genuinely solid. Also, the mobile app feels well done and makes it easy to handle work and admin from your phone.

The Select plan at the top only covers two people and the lower tiers also cap how many billable clients you can manage. The Lite plan, while affordable, doesn't include bank reconciliation, accountant access or double-entry accounting reports. Also worth noting, accountants can't view the full audit trail, even with any plan.

Time tracking feature has made it simple to capture tons of hours across projects, then roll those totals into an existing or brand new invoice. That way it's always clear which person the time belongs to and the time can be added to invoices automatically. Also, the quote builder with guided prompts looks really professional which has helped us level up both our quotes and project timelines with clients. It also makes it easier to keep tabs on those quotes and get client sign-off without the usual back-and-forth.

Cons

One place it still needs work is bank account connection and expense monitoring. Occasionally it duplicates outgoing transactions and transfers between accounts can be recorded as expenses instead of just money moving around. That kind of misclassification leads to an accounting cost every year which gets annoying fast.

They suspended my account even though I've been using it for about two years and I've kept the same credit card on file. There's still money left in the account, too. They charged my card over the weekend and then shut the account down immediately... but since support isn't available on weekends, I couldn't reach anyone to sort it out. I specifically need to send invoices and this kind of downtime makes it impossible to run my business. I'm switching to a different provider after this.
