Would be even better if a couple of details got improved, mainly the data upload/download speed and the reporting volume limits. Once those are addressed, it would feel more complete overall.

Has a really user friendly interface so even if you're not an accountant you can still navigate it without too much hassle. The invoicing setup is simple and it's simple to create professional invoices, send reminders and get paid online. I also like that it includes built-in time tracking which makes it easier to track billable hours and produce more accurate invoices. Also, automated expense tracking is a big win, importing expenses from bank and credit card accounts, categorizing them and pulling expense reports saves a lot of manual work. The app also connects with a solid range of tools, including CRMs, project management platforms and payment gateways which helps keep things in sync.

Cons

A few things hold it back compared to more efficient accounting tools. Some people may feel the feature set is a bit limited particularly if you're used to deeper accounting functionality. Reporting and analytics are there but the reporting can feel less powerful for more complex needs. Customization options exist though they may not be as flexible as what you'd get with other accounting software. Pricing can also be on the higher side for smaller businesses watching their budget. Finally, there's no inventory management so it's not a great fit for businesses that sell physical products and need inventory tracking.

Being able to whip up estimates quickly, get them signed off, turn them into invoices, send them for payment and then receive payment electronically is crucial for keeping my photography business running. It handles that end-to-end process in a way that feels easy, really quick and efficient from start to finish.

The financial management side (like the general ledger) is included but it's a bit tucked away. I'd love it if those features were more adaptive and easier to navigate so tax-time accounting doesn't require as much extra digging.

Invoice capability has been genuinely useful for a small business like mine. Everything feels simple and dependable and the overall ease of use stands out. I also like how simple it is to browse the website, enter the needed details and get the information I'm looking for. The way the feature details are integrated across the experience is impressive.

When customers can't pay through the invoice, it gets really frustrating. Also, the site seems to be unavailable quite often and that's led to data getting lost when I'm in the middle of entering information.

Expense entry and tracking feel a lot more simple than what I'm used to. It also makes invoicing and billing pretty convenient so I can send invoices without jumping through extra steps.

Doesn't include a double-entry accounting system so accounting workflows that require that setup won't be covered here.

Feels pretty beginner-friendly and it also connects neatly with Gusto payroll. If you're a solo owner with limited finance know how, it can be enough to get the job done. When you need more advanced reporting though, I'd definitely take a closer look and not rush into using it blindly.

Automatic entries have caused me a lot of trouble-details come out wrong even when the adjustments are simple. In QuickBooks (QB/QBO) I can fix similar items quickly but in FreshBooks it turns into a real headache and support never managed to resolve the specific problems I ran into. Also, the cartoony style of the financial statements feels kind of embarrassing for something that's meant to look professional.

Really simple to use. The fact that it works as a web version is a big plus since it puts less load on our PCs. The UI also looks and feels well-designed which makes everything smoother while working.

No real complaints after using it, everything I need is included. I can keep track of my financial records without hassle and it also helps me think about where the business could go in the future.

Clients can pay directly from the invoice which keeps things moving without extra steps. It also prompts my clients to leave a review of my services right after payment. The invoices include my company branding and get sent straight from FreshBooks to the client. The scheduling feature works really well for hourly billing... my clients can book time in a way that's tied to the hours they're paying for. At the end of the month, I can create time sheets for each project and task within minutes and export them in the Excel format they require. It's also handy that I can compare my actual time against my estimates especially when I'm charging a flat fee.

Cons

Account home page has a good visual breakdown of expenses and income but it only displays the last six months, I'd like to be able to switch the graphs to other time ranges. It also doesn't automatically retain categories when I'm using similar rates for recurring expenses, it would be better if saved vendors could have category suggestions to keep expense reports consistent. Printing my logo on invoices is available but I can't currently adjust the invoice color to match the rest of my branding, minor request but still something I'd like to see.

It's a solid invoicing and accounting tool for smaller teams but it may not cover every requirement bigger businesses have. Depending on your budget, it can come out pricier than some comparable options which might be a dealbreaker for certain small businesses.
