growing list of app integrations

Pros

One of the best parts is having a searchable history of all my files and conversations which makes it really convenient to find things later. The interface feels user-friendly so using it is simple and the growing list of app integrations is probably the feature I appreciate most.

Cons

Honestly, I don't really have any complaints. It's very useful, very clear and very simple to work with.

Keeps a record of our chats

Pros

Running a show got a lot more organized once we started using this. My co-host and I used to lose track of the conversations and ideas we had when it was time to put together episode outlines but now we can keep a detailed record of our chats and tie everything in smoothly with our Google Drive repository.

Cons

The only thing I'd still want is integration with the other chat apps we also have to use.

Private chats and team messaging

Pros

Private messaging and group conversations are the parts I enjoy most. They make it really convenient to communicate one-on-one or keep everyone in the loop in team discussions.

Cons

I run into issues when trying to edit my drafts which can be a bit frustrating.

huddles, statuses, reminders

Pros

It has been really useful for day-to-day communication especially with huddles, statuses, reminders, the self-chat button and calls. Those features make it simple to stay organized, keep track of things and communicate quickly with the team.

Cons

One thing that could still be improved is the video calling interface since it would be better with a more polished and user-friendly call layout.

No need to dig through email chains

Pros

It has been very transparent. When someone joins a project, there's no need to dig through long email chains because everything shared in the channels is searchable. It's also very flexible since it goes beyond real-time messaging and includes built-in file sharing, calls, clips and more so teams can work together in whatever way fits them best. Collaboration feels much better than relying on scattered email conversations because it connects internal and external teams across different locations, time zones and work styles. Security is another strong point especially compared with email, where spam and phishing are constant concerns. With Connect, working securely with clients, vendors and partners is much more practical. The integrations are also a huge plus, with access to more than 2,400 apps, including calendars and other everyday tools so important files and attachments are less likely to get missed.

Cons

At the same time, messaging can become chaotic and disorganized. Even with search, information gets buried fast when a lot of people are actively discussing a project in chat. The pace moves so quickly that it can be hard to keep up with everything. Another downside is how addictive it can feel. Emojis and push notifications give it some of the same attention-grabbing qualities as social media which can lead people to spend too much time checking messages instead of focusing on actual work. It can also feel a bit shallow at times since meaningful conversations are harder to have over instant messaging than in person. Group chats especially make substantive communication much more difficult.

Everything is recorded

Pros

Slack makes it really fast to communicate with specific people or whole groups inside our organization and even with people in other organizations. It also keeps a record of what everyone has said around an idea so I can search by keyword and pull up a specific conversation when I need it. I genuinely love using it. I'm on it all the time and you could honestly call it the shared brain of the organization. It feels so much lighter than email and I even want to handle support tickets with other organizations through it too and there's probably already an app for that. Another big plus is how well it helps with quickly sharing ideas and connecting with several other applications. I'm sure the Salesforce integration will only get better over time. If an organization can afford it, it really needs Slack. It's incredibly valuable for cutting down the time it takes to collaborate and make use of collective knowledge.

Cons

To be clear, you're probably not going to find a better tool than Slack. These are really just improvements I'd love to see, not reasons to avoid using it. Email wastes so much time and Slack is already a much better alternative. My biggest challenge with any enterprise app, including this one, is that all the settings can become a little difficult to understand and configure. I wish the platform would recommend settings based on how someone is actually using its features. Help me discover better, more productive ways to use it without making me dig through help articles and instructions. Instead, put the option to change a setting right into a pop-up in the middle of my workflow or surface it through Slackbot with a quick explanation of why it would help. Notifications are also hard to manage although that part is improving. Just know I'm drowning in them and I would love a built-in feature that could answer common questions with machine learning support because external apps that do this are usually too expensive through their APIs to be worth it. I'm a fairly technical lead and get hit with tons of DMs and channel mentions that often need the same answers over and over. I need help handling that volume so one person can support more people. Just something for them to think about.

clear audio quality

Pros

Being able to set up multiple channels for different projects keeps conversations organized and makes collaboration much better. Direct messaging is fast and convenient and the built-in voice call feature works really well with clear audio quality.

Cons

For someone new or more of a regular user, it can feel a bit hard to learn at first and seems better suited to more experienced users. The interface also doesn't come across as very polished and I'd prefer something cleaner and more professional-looking.

Short setup

Pros

Getting started with it was surprisingly simple. It only took a small amount of setup and configuration before we had everything up and running. It does a really good job of keeping everyone aligned and sharing files or assets with the whole team is simple especially when something needs to be sent out right away.

Cons

Nothing comes to mind at the moment.

helpful reminders and follow-ups

Pros

The standout feature for me is Slackbot. It works like a virtual assistant, reminding me about meetings, follow-up items and the people I still need to reach out to which has been really helpful.

Cons

Now and then, the software has minor glitches or brief outages. They usually get fixed pretty quickly and that's really the only downside I've noticed.

Awesome tool for focused discussions

Pros

It has been a really useful tool for our real-time team communication. The emojis make conversations more enjoyable and lively which adds a fun touch while using it. It also lets us create private channels for our own teams which is very helpful for focused discussions. Another big plus is that it integrates well with other software tools we use.

Cons

screen sharing experience can be better since it doesn't feel very user-friendly at times.

Effective way to communicate during webinars

Pros

Getting it up and running for the whole team took only a couple of hours, depending on team size. It's been a really effective way to communicate quickly especially during webinars when we need to make sure everything is working properly or when we need to coordinate off camera without interrupting the session.

Cons

Nothing notable comes to mind. There really isn't anything I can point to as a downside.

great for problem solving

Pros

you can quickly get a solution to almost any problem with help from the community. It really seems to cover just about every advantage you'd want in a tool like this. On top of that, it makes teamwork much easier, whether the team is working remotely or together on site.

Cons

It would be even more reliable for project work if it had stronger integration with GitHub.

Different privacy settings for channels

Pros

Working on large projects felt much more organized with this app because it gave our team a simple way to stay in touch. Being able to share files directly in the platform was really useful and the real-time notifications were essential whenever something time-sensitive came up. It helped make sure everyone stayed informed. I also really appreciated that channels could have different privacy settings so leadership was able to keep certain discussions private while still using the same platform as everyone else.

Cons

Once the number of channels started growing, things could get pretty confusing especially when different team members kept creating their own channels within the organization account. The file storage also feels limited and messages disappear after a fairly short period of time.

Excellent for detailed discussions

Pros

Slack's layout makes communication feel very natural. Everything is organized into two or three columns, the sidebar for channels and contacts, the main chat area and an optional third panel for threads. That setup keeps conversations clear and makes it easier to stay focused on what people are actually saying. The message composer is also really enjoyable to use because formatted messages are simple to write and sharing files works nicely with drag and drop. Threads ended up being more useful than I expected too. I wasn't fully sold on them at first but they do a good job of branching off side discussions so extra details can be added without interrupting the main conversation. Huddles are another feature I value a lot for real-time communication. They make it feel like the team is in the same room since people can jump in or leave whenever they want without needing everyone else to coordinate around it. On top of that, the API is very capable. It can be a little complicated in places but the ability to build custom apps and workflows really helps expand team knowledge and access to information. Even the music that plays when you're waiting alone in a huddle is a fun little touch.

Cons

Communication outside regular messaging feels a bit confusing. Slack has both huddles and calls, huddles are meant for quick audio chats, while calls are more traditional and include video. The problem is that they overlap enough to make it unclear which one should be used in a given situation especially since similar features are handled differently in each. Server connectivity can also be frustrating. Calls sometimes drop without warning, audio can lag badly, messages may take too long to send and the macOS app occasionally freezes completely and has to be force-quit. Forwarding or sharing messages with teammates can be awkward too since there are two different ways to do it and neither one works as reliably as expected.

helps people respond without delay

Pros

Real-time communication is the standout feature for me. The software is lightweight, simple to use and makes file sharing quick and hassle-free. It's also very helpful for creating separate groups for different discussions so team members can easily go back and recall what was being talked about in each group. Support for multiple keyboard formats and languages is another big plus. The mention feature works really well too since it helps the right person notice a query quickly and respond without delay.

Cons

At this point, I honestly don't have any complaints about the software. It's been doing a really good job from a user experience perspective.

handles large file transfers well

Pros

Right from the start, it has felt very user-friendly. It handles large file transfers without freezing up like some competing tools which makes a big difference during busy workdays. It supports emojis, GIFs and long-form messages so communication feels flexible instead of limited. Creating channels for the right group of people is also really useful because discussions stay relevant without distracting everyone else. The huddle feature has been a big plus too especially for quick calls and video sharing since it saves time compared to setting up meetings through Outlook or Google Hangouts. I also appreciate being able to mute notifications for channels that don't need my immediate attention, while direct messages and @mentions still make sure important things stand out. On top of that, the automation options like auto-approvals for managers, are genuinely helpful. Its integrations with other apps such as time management tools, make weekly timesheet submissions much easier and that's only one example. The thread feature is another standout because it keeps topic-specific conversations organized in one place instead of cluttering the whole channel. Installation on mobile is quick, the app isn't too heavy and it keeps me updated while letting me post on the go. Honestly, the list of useful features just keeps going.

Cons

There's really very little to dislike here. It feels less like just another workplace tool and more like part of the daily workflow and I would absolutely recommend it to professionals.

Shows everyone's availability status

Pros

It works really well for communication, file sharing, collaboration and showing everyone's availability status. It helps keep conversations moving and makes it easier to work with the team.

Cons

Something that bothers me is getting irrelevant team messages from hashtag channels that have nothing to do with me but still show up as part of team communication.
