Quickest way to communicate

Pros

It's by far the quickest and simplest way for me to stay in touch with my co-workers.

Cons

Every now and then the app freezes and I have to close it and restart it but I still really enjoy using it.

Handy for team updates

Pros

It is simple to use, even for people who aren't especially comfortable with technology. It works really well for group conversations and for sharing updates with people who have a lot going on.

Cons

It can take a little time to get everyone set up especially if they haven't used it before.

Suitable platform for entrepreneurs

Pros

Slack feels like a very well-designed platform for entrepreneurs who want to stay efficient and get things done quickly. Since working from home, it has helped me manage everything in one place which saves me a lot of time and makes my workflow much more organized.

Cons

When it comes to drawbacks, I honestly haven't come across any yet. It's very user-friendly and I keep discovering new features every day that make it even more useful.

Targeted alerts that really help

Pros

The right person gets notified instantly when they're tagged, instead of everyone being alerted like on many other platforms. Among several tools out there, this feature makes it stand out. The instant messaging setup has been especially useful for sharing urgent updates quickly and making sure critical information reaches the correct user right away.

Cons

I don't have any real complaints about it. The regular updates help keep everything clean and running well. Hopefully it continues in the same direction going forward, with ongoing bug fixes and new features added over time.

Wonderful file storage feature

Pros

It has been a really solid way to communicate with team members thanks to its well-designed chat system. It offers several useful features for software engineers, including file uploads and the ability to add code blocks directly in conversations. The file storage feature is also a nice addition and works very well.

Cons

Stronger collaboration with other software like Zoom and Webex would be nice. Since people in my organization use Slack, Zoom and Webex, I'm forced to install and use all three apps just to stay in touch with everyone.

Startup-friendly collaboration hub

Pros

One thing that really stands out is how welcoming Slack is for startups and growing teams. The pricing is a little over $6 per user per month but the free tier gives you access to the first 10,000 messages which is a very practical way for an organization to test it before committing. That makes it appealing for teams that want to understand the value first and then decide whether they want to subscribe. It's very accessible when you're just getting started and it also works well as organizations scale. There are plenty of channels, a strong sense of community and its biggest strength is definitely collaboration. Because the platform feels open, conversations move quickly and the fun banter between team members makes it enjoyable to use for day-to-day communication.

Cons

It also includes a lot of additional features which can be helpful but at the same time they may be a little confusing for some users.

Channels and threads work brilliantly

Pros

Slack's channel setup is really useful because it lets me include all the stakeholders I need without any hassle. The threaded replies are just as valuable since they keep conversations organized and make information much easier to follow and track.

Cons

There isn't really anything I dislike at this point. If anything, there are probably still a lot of features I just haven't explored or used yet.

Spaces for specific projects

Pros

Using channels, I can set up dedicated spaces for specific projects or topics which keeps communication organized. It's also helpful that I can add selected clients to the relevant channels along with my co-workers.

Cons

My conversations are deleted after 14 days so I can't keep backups of important content or connect it to my own cloud storage. I'd really like this feature to be expanded so we can recover information shared in our channels.

Easy to share links, files and attachments

Pros

Keeping in touch with everyone on the team is quick and efficient with Slack. It makes it simple to share links, files and attachments and setting up separate channels for different projects helps keep conversations focused and organized.

Cons

At times, the desktop app takes a bit longer to load likely because there's so much data stored on their servers.

Amazing for sharing announcements

Pros

It fits really well into a business setting because its features are simple to use and put into practice. We mainly rely on it for communication between employees and it works much faster than email. It's also useful for sharing announcements that people can read when they have time or once they get to work. Uploading files is simple and team members can access and comment on them without hassle. Overall, it covers everything needed to keep everyone informed organized and on the same page.

Cons

In a larger company, keeping up with files or specific information inside a thread can become difficult. When something gets buried, you usually have to go back and search for it by scrolling through messages or entering keywords. It would be much more helpful if there were a way to star or bookmark messages and files so they could be quickly found again later.

Helpful cross-company collaboration

Pros

Using Slack feels very simple. One thing that has been especially useful for me is being able to connect with channels outside my company since I'm part of a professional group where we ask questions, exchange ideas and share experiences.

Cons

To really get full value from it though, you need a paid subscription. Without that, older messages disappear after a while and it becomes impossible to go back and track previous conversations.

Very easy to use

Pros

It has been really simple to use for both one-on-one conversations and group communication. I can share documents quickly and tag teammates whenever I need help. The mobile app also works really well on my phone which makes it even more convenient.

Cons

Honestly, I do not have much negative to say about it. The integrations are solid and help make my workday more efficient.

Broad set of features

Pros

Comes with a lot of useful features. Instant messaging works really well and creating different channels for specific work makes team communication much more organized. It's also convenient to tag someone right away when something needs to be done. On top of that, instant calling and screen sharing are very helpful whenever any issue comes up.

Cons

At this point, I haven't noticed any disadvantages with it.

Shows my availability

Pros

It has been really solid overall because it brings together so many useful features in one place, real-time messaging, audio and video conferencing, file sharing and integrations with other tools. It makes team communication much more convenient and it also helps everyone stay aware of my availability and when I'm tied up. I use the screen sharing option in huddles quite often and the highlighting tool during screen share is especially helpful for pointing out important details while talking things through with teammates. Huddle also delivers pretty reliable audio quality even when the network is weak. Another big plus is being able to connect other products and receive their notifications directly inside Slack.

Cons

I've occasionally run into call drops in huddles. At times, even when only three of us are already in a huddle, inviting a fourth person can cause problems where it seems like the call gets disrupted. When that happens, we usually end up having to leave and start a completely new huddle.

Clear layout view

Pros

Feels very simple to use and the overall layout gives a clear overview of what's going on. It's obvious that team communication and collaboration are at the center of the product which I actually prefer since a lot of competing tools try to pack in too many extra features.

Cons

The file handling and image compression still have room for improvement although third-party tools can be used as a workaround when needed.

Good for personal and office use

Pros

It has been a really good messaging app for both office and personal use. Features such as Channels, direct Messaging, Huddles and Clips help teams keep all their work communication in one place. The best part is that it lets you integrate the apps your team needs which helps everything stay in sync.

Cons

There are occasional audio issues with Huddles.

Brings project management and team messaging together

Pros

Slack brings project management and team messaging together in one centralized place so everything stays connected and organized.

Cons

With bigger teams, the number of channels can start to feel overwhelming. That said, there are still useful options to keep things organized and clean.

Convenient for uploading files

Pros

Working remotely means this is my main way of staying in touch with the team. It's really convenient for uploading files, messaging groups or individuals and quickly checking who's available. Channels help keep conversations focused so only the people relevant to a topic are involved. It's also simple to search through past messages and find older information when needed. Overall, it's been a very effective way to feel connected to my job and company while working from home.

Cons

The mobile app has been frustrating though because I sometimes miss messages or get notifications for older ones as if they're new which can create confusion with the team. My phone also doesn't consistently alert me to new messages in real time and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix that problem.

team collaboration win

Pros

It has been fantastic for team communication and collaboration. It really helps keep discussions organized since you can separate conversations into different channels and groups and use them to share updates, messages and other information with the right people. Sharing content is very convenient too because it supports all kinds of file formats. On top of that, it's a lightweight and fast instant messaging tool which makes it even better to use every day.

Cons

Honestly, there's not much to complain about. The only thing I'd love to see added is a received/read message feature.
