handy shortcuts

Pros

Switching between chats is really simple and the keyboard shortcuts save a lot of time during the day.

Cons

It feels pretty expensive especially for small startups. That said, the free plan still provides a very solid service.

Unnecessary bots

Pros

Team communication feels instant with this software and I really appreciated that there was no lag compared to other similar communication platforms in the SaaS space.

Cons

The bots are the part I could do without although I understand they're absolutely essential for some workspaces.

Love the message scheduling feature

Pros

Keeping conversations separated and on topic is one of the things I appreciate most about Slack. It makes communication between teams really simple and connecting it with other apps works smoothly. The message scheduling feature is also very useful especially when I need to plan messages ahead of time.

Cons

Honestly, I haven't run into anything that bothers me while using this platform.

Different chat options

Pros

Having everything in one place is what I enjoy most about Slack. The variety of files we can share, the different chat options and the way it brings multiple workflows onto a single page make daily work much more convenient. The unified calendar for scheduling events is also a big plus. Another thing that really helps is not having to rely on email since important messages and teammates' notes get pinned automatically to our boards, making them quick to find and reply to later. It also keeps communication simple no matter where coworkers are located and the multimedia support, including sharing code snippets, is extremely useful. On top of that, the many integrations with third-party apps and chatbots add even more value.

Cons

There really isn't much to complain about. The only part that feels inconvenient is when there are too many windows and notes waiting for replies because organizing them by theme still has to be done manually. I'd much rather have that sorting happen automatically since it would save a lot of time.

Channels keep teamwork moving

Pros

It keeps our discussions organized by putting them into separate channels so everyone can gather in one place to share ideas, talk things through, make decisions faster and keep work moving without the constant back-and-forth of email or other less effective collaboration tools.

Cons

conversations disappear after 14 days which means anything important has to be saved manually. The file storage is also quite limited when sharing documents through the platform. On top of that, it can become distracting if it is not managed properly especially with notifications coming in all day and that can end up hurting productivity instead of helping collaboration.

Polished design for a better experience

Pros

Communication feels much quicker here than over email and organizing conversations by channel keeps things simple. The design is polished and very user-friendly which makes the whole experience pleasant.

Cons

Once you're involved in more and more channels and projects, keeping everything under control can get pretty difficult. The search tool does help but it's not flawless. Admins really need to stay on top of cleaning things up, reducing unnecessary channels and keeping the setup as simple as possible.

Best tool for team management

Pros

We totally depend on it for any sort of team collabs. All our files are shared using Slack and meetings are solely done on it.

Cons

Support team is slow. Maybe they get overwhelmed by the huge userbase. But we hardly face any problem.

Scalable team chat powerhouse

Pros

It is one of the simplest communication platforms to work with and it scales really well as teams grow. The large number of integrations available is a big advantage and consistently makes the platform more useful.

Cons

The audio and video conferencing features still have room for improvement.

Can pin important messages

Pros

It has been excellent for team communication and collaboration. Because everything happens in real time, we hardly ever need to rely on email anymore. Being able to pin important messages makes it simple to go back to key conversations later. I also really appreciate how everything is organized into channels since we can separate discussions by topic and keep each subject in its own place.

Cons

Once you get used to Slack, it's a very strong application. The only downside is that the learning curve can feel a bit long for someone who is just getting started.

Best productivity tool

Pros

Slack has been the best productivity tool our company has used. It keeps everyone involved and connected whether they're working from home or in the office. It works really well for instant updates, document sharing and online meetings. Having one dedicated platform for both employers and employees also saves a lot of time at work.

Cons

Pricing is quite high for small businesses. The interface also feels complicated and a bit complex and at the beginning I definitely felt lost trying to find my way around it.

Ability to switch between workplaces

Pros

Working remotely with several consultancies, I can switch between multiple workspaces without any hassle and moving through the different channels inside each one feels very natural. It makes it simple to keep client conversations organized and I only have to be part of the channels that actually relate to my work. I also appreciate being able to show clients when I'm available to chat.

Cons

I genuinely enjoy using Slack and the only thing that sometimes throws me off is trying to track down a link or asset I've seen before when I can't remember whether it was shared in a thread or stored in the project management software.

Generous free tier

Pros

It comes with a feature-rich interface and a generous free tier. I can handle voice and video calls, share content and send files and images without any trouble. The app is organized in a way that keeps things within reach while still supporting growth and even very active communities run well on it. It also offers strong integration support with plenty of apps, including calendars, standup bots and spreadsheet tools.

Cons

Notifications can be really annoying and are not very simple to turn off. There should be more accessible options for muting channels. The mobile apps feel heavy and can lag at times. Threaded replies also need a better structure since messages often get lost there. On top of that, the @all tag should be limited to admins only to avoid unnecessary and irritating notifications.

Real-time chatting and team collaboration

Pros

It works really well for real-time chatting and team collaboration especially with its group features. The notification system is also quite good and having audio calls and file sharing built in is very useful for day-to-day work.

Cons

The audio calling feature tends to lag pretty often so it definitely needs improvement. File sharing could also be better especially when it comes to supporting larger file sizes.

Approachable interface and app integrations

Pros

The interface feels polished and very approachable and the app integrations are something I really love.

Cons

Feels like Discord

Pros

Coming from tools like Discord, Slack feels very familiar because the layout and many of the functions are quite similar. The difference is that Slack is much more focused on remote teamwork and company collaboration rather than social communities. You can start meetings at any time, share files and documents whether they are small or large and organize everything through specific channels for each company task, all in one place. That centralization is really valuable. It can feel a little confusing at the beginning if you have never used something like Discord before but even then, you usually adjust pretty fast and pick up the workflow without too much trouble.

Cons

the free plan feels limited especially because it does not include group video calls or screen sharing during calls which are pretty essential features for meetings. That part can be frustrating. Still, if you plan to rely on Slack seriously, it makes more sense to go with a paid plan since it unlocks many of the features that really make the platform productive and complete.

Made internal emails uncommon

Pros

Having all team and company communication in one place is what I value most about Slack. Since we started using it, internal emails have become very uncommon. It keeps project conversations well organized through private or public channels and sharing direct messages, voice notes, files and more is very convenient. On top of that, the platform can be tailored to fit an organization's needs and connects with plenty of other tools through APIs, including Asana, Google Drive, Zapier and more.

Cons

The mobile app is the part I enjoy the least. Finding the right information there can be frustrating because you often have to scroll quite a bit to locate older direct messages in the home tab, for example. I also would not really recommend it for file sharing since files can easily disappear into old chat history and become hard to track down.

Fantastic overall design

Pros

From the overall design to the way it works day to day, this tool has been fantastic. It's user-friendly, does exactly what it's supposed to do and often even exceeds expectations. At this point, I can't really imagine working without it because it's become essential for fast, effective communication with my team and for creating a stronger sense of community across the whole company.

Cons

At times, connecting it with another app can be a little frustrating and takes some effort. That said, it's only a minor drawback since I've always been able to get the integration working in the end.
