Been a lifesaver

Pros

Our 750+ person company depends on it every day for secure communication and collaboration across multiple departments. It has improved a lot over time and we've really grown to love it. Having the mobile app on my phone has honestly been a lifesaver.

Cons

Switching over from Telegram came with a learning curve for the whole team. Still, once we got familiar with how it works, we adapted well and now really enjoy using it.

Simple messaging tool

Pros

It is a simple messaging tool for workplace communication. The community chats work really well for sharing updates and getting information out quickly and efficiently.

Cons

An issue I've run into before is having trouble pulling up older conversations between me and coworkers.

Interactive interface

Pros

Slack has been a really solid way to keep communication organized across team members and different projects. The interface feels engaging and is simple to use which makes day-to-day collaboration much more manageable.

Cons

Once you're dealing with lots of threads or a bigger team all communicating at the same time, the interface can get a little tricky to navigate.

Smooth onboarding

Pros

Getting everyone onboard with it didn't take much effort even with some of my older staff members. The messaging is very fast and it has made communication in our clinic much more efficient since we no longer have to keep walking back and forth to talk in person. I also really appreciate being able to set up separate channels for different teams and groups.

Cons

Our setup is probably a little different from how most people use it. Rather than creating a separate user for each computer, we organize accounts by computer "region" under a single email because the machines are shared by groups instead of assigned to one individual. For instance, all of our receptionists use the same login so if I need to contact the receptionist team, I can send one message thread no matter which receptionist is available at the time.

Positive experience

Pros

Joining a company that relied on it as the main way everyone communicated across different parts of the world turned out to be a really positive experience. Since we all had different responsibilities, there were dedicated channels set up for each role which made it very clear what everyone was working on and kept a running history of completed tasks. There was also a shared channel for general discussions, along with private channels where personal matters could be discussed with supervisors. I really appreciated being able to upload photos and videos and using emoji reactions on conversations made things feel more interactive. My favorite part was marking tasks as done with the green checkmark. It was always possible to go back through the channels and confirm whether a specific task had been completed. The one time I reached out to customer support, they were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Cons

Honestly, I can't think of anything I disliked about it. We used it every day, several times a day and I genuinely loved everything about it.

Turned out to be very productive

Pros

Switching to this instead of other team communication tools has been really productive for us. It keeps communication as organized and simple as possible. The channel setup does a nice job of keeping discussions centered on specific topics which saves time and makes everything easier to follow. It also helps a lot with finding old messages or shared files since you already know where to look based on the subject.

Cons

Notifications can become pretty noisy and I haven't found a good way to filter them well enough to avoid missing the important ones.

Cuts down on random emails

Pros

It is simple to navigate, connects with lots of other apps and lets me handle projects and team communication all in one place. It has cut down a lot on the random emails we used to send around which were hard to organize and often caused tasks to get overlooked.

Cons

It is a bit expensive, the desktop version offers more features than the mobile app on my phone and new users may need some time to get comfortable with it.

No need to be tech savvy

Pros

Its very simple to use and feels user friendly even for coworkers who aren't especially tech savvy. It comes with plenty of features and admin controls that make it really valuable for work teams especially since you can message one person directly, use group channels to reach an entire team at once or create more specific spaces with permission settings to separate different kinds of communication across the team.

Cons

The only thing that ever came to mind was how often my alerts were going off but honestly that had more to do with my role and company than the software itself. If anything, it turns into another advantage because the notification settings are very customizable, you can choose the sounds, silence everything, mute certain channels while leaving others active or set it so you only get notified when someone mentions your name directly in a team channel. I really can't think of any genuine downsides because it works exactly the way it's intended to for company, group, team and one-on-one communication.

Organized threads for team updates

Pros

Having separate threads keeps conversations really well organized and sharing information across different threads is very simple.

Cons

At times, logging in can be quite difficult and the authentication doesn't always work very well which can lead to issues like lost messages. Still, it's good enough overall.

Necessary for our operations

Pros

Since 2016, it has become absolutely essential for us and has turned into the central place for company knowledge and day-to-day conversations. We originally adopted it because we were already on Google Workspace and wanted something better than the chat option in that ecosystem and even now we have no intention of moving away from it because Google Chat still doesn't come close to the overall Slack experience. We rely on it for direct messages, group conversations and project discussions and it also makes file sharing between teammates really convenient. On top of that, we've set up several connected apps and workflows that fit nicely into how we work. It's a very reliable platform that helps keep the business operating, it's simple to use and the customer support has been excellent. Honestly, considering how many years of conversations and records we can store and quickly access, it has been surprisingly good value for the money.

Cons

There really isn't much for me to criticize but the biggest downside is probably that it isn't integrated as tightly as Microsoft Teams. Teams combines team chat and video conferencing in one product, while with Slack we have to add Zoom to get a similar setup. That means we end up using two best-in-class tools which works well but it also makes the overall cost higher than just paying for a standard Microsoft subscription.

Allows remote teams to communicate efficiently

Pros

Working with a remote team feels much more connected because the platform is user-friendly and makes communication really efficient. Real-time messaging with colleagues is quick and I can also check whether someone is in a meeting, at lunch or off sick. It helps keep everything clear and organized in a remote work environment.

Cons

Something that can be distracting is the notifications about who is on leave. A weekly update would be enough and then people could be added if needed because constant alerts for this feel unnecessary.

Useful for different kinds of communication

Pros

During the pandemic, this turned out to be a really good option for staying connected. It was simple to use and since we were still getting familiar with the software and everything it offered, we spent time exploring its features. It includes chat and messaging tools along with video conferencing which made it useful for different kinds of communication.

Cons

The software itself was excellent. The only downside was that we did not have enough time to fully learn all of its features and benefits before another platform took over and became the standard that everyone preferred to use.

Incredible video calling feature

Pros

It is really simple to operate and it helps keep the whole team connected fast. I also really love the video calling feature because it's incredibly helpful.

Cons

There doesn't seem to be a speaker option in the mobile app so if you're driving, you can't switch the call over to speaker.

Integraes with a lot of tools

Pros

It feels responsive and simple to use and the biggest advantage is how well it integrates with other tools we rely on so communication and action can happen in one place.

Cons

Core functionality is still the same but there really hasn't been much innovation or development in recent years and I've noticed that does make an impact.

Everything under one roof

Pros

Having my team, coworkers and other departments all in one place makes communication really convenient. One of the biggest benefits is being able to use it almost like a personal record of wins, useful best practices and helpful tips picked up along the way.

Cons

Messages can pile up very quickly and with so many threads going at once, it can feel like you are always trying to keep up with everything.

Simple to share documents and links

Pros

This software gives teams and departments a more casual, convenient way to stay in touch. It makes it simple to share documents and links, run huddles, do screen sharing and handle all the other essentials you need in a semi-professional work setting.

Cons

if you don't pay for a higher plan, you lose access to conversations older than three months. In a work environment, that's really frustrating.

Confusing interface

Pros

At a basic level, it does what it's supposed to do. I actually get message notifications more reliably on my phone than I do on my laptop which has been the better experience between the two.

Cons

There's no screen capture feature, messages tend to get buried pretty quickly and the desktop app often doesn't chime for new messages even when notifications are enabled. On top of that, the interface feels confusing and harder to navigate than it should be.

Key communication tool for my business

Pros

It has become a key communication tool for my business and the platform has been simple to set up and work with for team chats, file sharing and scheduling events.

Cons

Real-time phone notifications are not consistent at all. I might get message alerts for a few hours and then they suddenly stop for the rest of the day even though my team is still sending messages.

Best chat platform out there

Pros

Slack is hands down the best chat platform I've used. It connects with pretty much any other software you want and that flexibility is amazing.

Cons

It feels a bit expensive for companies and I think they could still make a solid profit even if they lowered the cost.

Modern digital office

Pros

It feels like my digital office, simple to use and packed with modern, impressive features. It has completely cut down the long email threads for me and now quick questions and file sharing happen instantly. The chats stay well organized in dedicated channels which makes it much harder for important conversations to get lost.

Cons

I'm satisfied with it because I really haven't run into any major difficulties while using this excellent platform.
