great for team coordination

Pros

Day-to-day collaboration would be much harder without it. We've relied on Slack across several projects and it has been incredibly helpful for sharing files, keeping track of tasks and staying in constant contact about project progress. Being able to post pictures, gifs and even quick comments on news or current events also helps everyone stay connected and makes the work environment feel more engaging and informed.

Cons

With so many notifications and ongoing conversations, important messages can sometimes get buried in the flood of chats. Other than that, I really don't have any complaints. It looks clean, feels simple and has a very appealing interface.

Better than skype for client chats

Pros

Working with clients feels much more connected with Slack. I use it every day to discuss tasks, chat and share information and it has helped cut down my email traffic a lot. To me, it feels like a much better version of Skype.

Cons

Video calling still isn't reliable enough and there are definitely better tools for that. Aside from that, everything else works perfectly.

Changed the way we operate

Pros

It has completely changed how teams communicate and work together. The interface is user-friendly, the design feels user-friendly and the feature set is broad enough to cover just about everything a team needs. It makes staying in touch with coworkers incredibly convenient especially when everyone is working remotely. That said, the number of tools and settings can feel like a lot in the beginning so it may take a little time to learn how to use the platform well.

Cons

My overall experience with it has been very positive. Working remotely, it has made it much simpler to stay connected with teammates and collaborate on ongoing projects. Being able to set up separate channels for different teams and tasks is really helpful and the integrations with other apps add a lot of convenience. It can feel a little overwhelming when you first start using it but once you get familiar with how it works, it becomes a very capable tool for team communication.

Love the mobile app

Pros

It has been the best way for our team to stay connected while working remotely. The mobile app is really good too which makes it simple to keep up with conversations and stay in touch wherever you are.

Cons

The audio and video features still have room for improvement. Other tools seem more convenient when it comes to jumping into a quick meeting or reviewing documents together.

audio issues

Pros

Getting it set up on mobile devices is pretty simple and using it there doesn't take much effort.

Cons

Audio problems happen quite often and the app sometimes crashes as well. It's also frustrating that there's no reliable way to locate a chat with someone if you can't remember their name.

Pulls everything in one place

Pros

Keeping everyone connected is much simpler with this tool since my team can chat and collaborate in real time no matter where they are or what time zone they're in. On top of that, it works with a wide range of other apps and tools which helps us stay more efficient by pulling everything into one place.

Cons

There's a lot packed into it in terms of features and functionality so it can feel a little overwhelming and harder to pick up for new users.

An absolute banger

Pros

I couldn't do without it anymore, this tool is an absolute banger.

Cons

None really. I discovered this kind of team chat through it so for me it just feels like the standard.

No need to schedule anything

Pros

Jumping into calls is the part I enjoy most. Unlike Google Meet, there's no need to schedule anything or send invites ahead of time. If teammates are online at that moment, we can connect right away which saves a lot of time.

Cons

Starting a call with multiple participants can be pretty frustrating. There's also no option to blur or hide the background which is not ideal when working from home and not wanting to show your space. On top of that, there's currently no way to record calls so that area definitely needs improvement.

wide range of privacy options

Pros

It offers a wide range of privacy options and settings that make communicating across large groups really effective. We've been using it for several years and it has been extremely impressive the whole time.

Cons

I honestly don't have anything negative to say about it, full credit to the creators.

Must-have for every business

Pros

This tool has completely changed how companies operate and how employees communicate with one another. It feels like a must-have for any business especially those working in hybrid or remote setups. It helps create friendly day-to-day conversations between coworkers and really supports a collaborative working environment.

Cons

Every now and then, there are a few small bugs such as phone notifications not coming through properly when you're connected to multiple workspaces but it's nothing serious enough to ruin the overall experience.

Adds a layer of security

Pros

It is part of our daily workflow. We rely on it not only for instant messaging but also for collaborating with teammates and clients, sharing team or company-wide announcements and working on files together. The option to create multiple private channels is also a big plus because it adds another layer of security within our organization.

Cons

There is not much to complain about, aside from the add-ons available on the platform. Some are free while others require payment. It would be even better if more add-ons were offered that could really help boost user productivity.

Fun emojis and polished design

Pros

The features I enjoy most are the emojis especially being able to create custom ones, along with polls, the different customization options, the privacy in group chats and the overall visual design of the app.

Cons

Getting started was a bit confusing as a first-time user. We've also run into several situations where a message ended up going to the wrong person or group chat because the app automatically switches to a new conversation while it's open. If you're in the middle of typing to one person and someone else messages you, there's a chance your reply could be sent to that new chat instead.

Keeps evolving

Pros

It has been the best tool for every kind of communication. I've used it for more than 3 years and the way it keeps evolving is honestly impressive. Almost every time I think of a feature that would be useful, it seems to show up in the next release. It's really convenient to create channels for specific projects, keep direct messages separate and bring new people into the conversation whenever needed.

Cons

The only thing that used to bother me was how the Slackbot reminders worked but they've improved that and now it feels polished.

all communication channels gathered

Pros

Having all kinds of communication channels gathered in one place so quickly is the part I appreciate most about Slack.

Cons

Teams that depend on it heavily might be disappointed with the free plan because it limits both integrations and storage space.

expanded a lot over the years

Pros

Over the last few years, the platform has expanded a lot and the overall feature set has noticeably gotten better. The addition of video calling has been a really valuable improvement for our team.

Cons

it still feels pretty standalone and doesn't go much beyond chat. Because Google Chat connects with more apps, I end up using that more often now.

Amazing experience

Pros

It has been really pleasant to use thanks to its user-friendly interface and simple setup. Real-time messaging works very well and the instant notifications help everyone stay updated without delays. The shared channels and threaded conversations also make collaboration much more organized and efficient for the whole team.

Cons

Some parts still feel a bit limited especially when it comes to customizing certain features. It also doesn't include built-in voice or video conferencing which means relying on other tools for that. On top of that, the pricing can become expensive for larger teams.

Feels like internal Facebook Messenger

Pros

It feels a lot like an internal Facebook Messenger, with private and public channels, direct messages, emojis, reactions, GIFs and all the usual ways to communicate quickly. Our IT team values it highly for security and it also works well with our SSO provider. The mobile app is genuinely very capable. Another big plus is how many integrations it supports, like Google Calendar, GitHub and Asana so updates and information can be viewed and acted on in one place with instant notifications instead of jumping across five different websites to collect what you need.

Cons

A proper message edit history still feels missing. It tells you a message was edited but it does not show what actually changed which can make things confusing at times. The built-in file sharing and huddle features also feel fairly limited. Huddles work fine for quick check-ins but for longer meetings or bigger groups, this is usually not the tool I would choose.

Takes few minutes to get started

Pros

If you've used messaging apps like MSN, AIM or Facebook Messenger before, getting started with Slack only takes a few minutes. That quick learning curve makes rollout really valuable since teams can adopt it without much friction. Setting up channels for different teams, topics and projects is especially useful because it keeps conversations from becoming chaotic. It also connects really well with a lot of important apps, including Asana, Google Drive and Google Calendar.

Cons

It can end up creating a new version of the same problem email already had: too many notifications. I keep it off my phone for that reason and I know plenty of other people struggle with the constant alerts too. That may be less about Slack itself and more about this type of communication tool in general. If you decide to use it or a similar platform, it's important to have processes in place to manage that.

Allows me to set status and add security

Pros

Working at a multinational company, we use this software to stay connected with employees, supervisors, account managers and executives across the business. It makes it really convenient to organize topics and projects into separate groups, while also keeping individual chats for one-on-one conversations. Being able to place calls, start video meetings and share your screen with others is a huge plus. It feels dynamic, engaging and very efficient. Users can also set a status on their profile, add security measures to prevent company information from being taken outside the organization and assign different roles or access levels within the platform. There are plenty of other useful features as well.

Cons

There should be an option to assign names more clearly to group chats created between several people.

more focused approach compared to Teams

Pros

It works really well because it's simple to use and easy to understand. In my view, Teams tries to handle too many things, while Slack focuses on keeping conversations open, clear and up to date. Being able to switch between private messages, public channels and closed channels makes a big difference when it comes to keeping team communication organized. We use it for all internal communication, while email is reserved for anything external and that setup has worked very well.

Cons

I don't enjoy how overwhelming it can get because of the sheer number of notifications, messages and ongoing conversations on the platform. Keeping up with everything can be difficult and that makes it pretty easy for important information to get missed.
