Two-factor authentication keeps it safe

Pros

It lets me stay in touch with my different work groups through instant messaging and file sharing. It also works really well for storing and sharing documents. I also appreciate the customizable sections, along with screen, audio and video sharing. On top of that, having two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security.

Cons

Features like support for data loss prevention integrations, custom user groups and SAML-based single sign-on (SSO) are only included once you move to an upgraded plan.

Outstanding for team collaboration

Pros

Slack is very easy to use and works really well for team collaboration. It makes it quick to reach coworkers, set up group chats for project teams, integrate with lots of other tools and share all kinds of files.

Cons

Every now and then it crashes which makes the experience frustrating. There are also times when notifications arrive late or stay stuck on the screen.

Slack redefined how we communicate!

Pros

It does exactly what you expect it to do and improves collaboration between users who are situated miles apart and even across cities and countries. We have been more and more reliant on it, and it has become an essential part of the project toolbox. All the developers, project managers, and clients have a single platform to communicate effectively in a productive environment. A lot of third-party apps can be integrated, which unlocks a whole new level of interactivity and creativity. These integrations mean a lot of communication taking place in different apps can be had in one location, making it easier for a global workforce to stay up-to-date with each other.

Cons

It is not recommended for use on a laptop or mobile app because the app is very resource intensive and quickly drains your battery. Thankfully, the desktop version is more than enough that we just use the mobile apps as a last resort or for on-the-go updates. Adding new channels is a bit tricky, so you have to learn it separately. It also becomes fairly pricey when more paying members are added to the group. If you are unaware of all of your paying members, or if you add guests as paid, it can soon go way above your budget.

No one comes close to how good Slack is!

Pros

I love using Slack so much that I could write a whole blog about it, but to keep the review short and actually helpful, the following are some of my favorite features: A single sign-on for multiple workspaces, the "magic link" to sign in with your email, and custom animated emojis the emojis may not seem like a big deal, but it’s very important in the way we communicate with each other. It is very easy to create as many workspaces as we require, and all of them can be neatly organized by adding separate teams with their own channels to communicate on. I have been able to work more smoothly and effectively thanks to slack.

Cons

It is great that I have access to Slack on various platforms, but I have noticed that the sync between these platforms is not happening in real-time. For example, if there’s an alert on my computer that requires my immediate attention and I open it, there is still a popup number on all of my other devices that remains there until I open slack on each device individually and mark them as "read." This isnt a major issue, but imagine seeing your phone from afar, which still has that old notification, and you stop whatever you’re doing just to be greeted with disappointment. I find it quite annoying.

Amazing for managing multiple communication channels

Pros

Slack is great for both serious and casual conversations. It provides all the tools necessary to properly segregate channels for management conversations from daily chat groups where we share all sorts of stuff that has nothing to do with our work. I have done it so that the employees know where to go to report on their daily progress, share an idea, or ask a question. It also has a very unique bot feature that is useful for setting automatic reminders for the sales team or notifying managers to remove topics for the next meeting.

Cons

The software is extremely simple to use once it is set up, but that happens once you go through the implementation process, which is difficult to say the least. The team helps you a lot, but it all comes down to how much effort you’re willing to put into the integration, which was a difficult step for us. However, once its set up, it’s just like texting or using any other messenger app. Which means you will definitely find it intuitive. The layout sometimes seems a little cluttered, and I wish there was a way to organize it just a bit more.

polished UX

Pros

The things I enjoy most about it are how simple it is to use, its polished UI/UX and how thoughtfully it's designed overall. The experience feels very fluid and I especially love the dark mode since it's much easier on my eyes when I'm working late. It also makes collaboration incredibly convenient so it works really well as a communication tool. On top of that, the huddle feature is quick, practical and efficient, it does exactly what I need it to do.

Cons

I notice a bit of lag when sending messages from my phone especially if I'm not on Wi-Fi but it happens very rarely.

Brings playfull feel to the workday

Pros

It makes it really quick and efficient for everyone across the company to communicate and share information or documents. It brings a more playful feel to the workday and it's much faster than relying on email. It also helps create a warm, fun sense of community so it feels like you never miss anything important happening.

Cons

messages can sometimes get buried across all the different channels. I just wish there were a better way to start or highlight the most important messages.

Pros

Well designed features

Pros

Using it has been a really positive experience because it's simple to use and packed with genuinely useful features. I've hardly ever run into bugs that interfere with workplace communication which makes it dependable day to day. The way certain features are designed also makes it clear they've considered users' time away from work like having separate notification settings on the mobile app. Its integrations with other tools are excellent as well, Google Calendar, GitHub and OpsGenie all work nicely so nearly everything important can stay centralized in one place. Being able to spin up a new channel quickly is also a big help when new incidents come up and need immediate coordination. On top of that, the interface is very simple to navigate on both desktop and mobile.

Cons

the UI and file downloads can become unresponsive when a machine is under heavy memory usage. It would be helpful if the app could show in-app feedback or suggestions when that happens.

Clear Ui

Pros

Right from the first use, the UI feels clear and simple and it really doesn't take more than a few minutes to understand how everything works. Setting up group chats is quick which has helped us cut down on a lot of meetings since we can share updates in the chat instead of saying everything on calls. The video calling feature is also very helpful especially since my work is remote most of the time. Another thing I appreciate is how it lets you stay connected with people outside your organization which is a brilliant way to brainstorm and collaborate. There are plenty of tools available so there's a lot to choose from depending on what you need. Messaging is instant, direct replies through threads are useful and uploading documents is very convenient. Overall, I'm really happy with how functional it is and I'm glad to be using it.

Cons

The pricing feels a little high but honestly, considering the quality and the number of features included, I really don't mind paying for it.

impressive sharing options

Pros

Our dev team really enjoys using it for collaboration. The way we can share code, text, files and other content is really impressive and the bots and shortcuts make everyday work even more helpful.

Cons

Video meetings still feel like an area that needs improvement. That's probably why so many teams rely on Zoom for calls and in our case we eventually moved over to Teams because of that.

Several ways to communicate

Pros

Having audio and video calls built in, plus screen sharing, makes Slack really useful. It feels like there are several ways to communicate all in one place which keeps everything convenient.

Cons

I don't really have any major complaints. The only small annoyance came after clearing my browser cookies and then needing to look up and remember my workspace link to sign back in since my login had been wiped. It was frustrating in the moment but I still got it sorted out within about 10 minutes.

Simplifies communication with my team

Pros

It feels very user-friendly to use and getting around the platform is convenient. It really simplifies communication with my team which makes daily collaboration much better. One of my favorite parts is the custom emojis, we can make our own based on how we react to a message or update and that adds a fun personal touch. I also appreciate being able to integrate other apps like Google Calendar which makes everything more connected in one place.

Cons

The part I enjoy the least is the video calling feature. It's a bit difficult to navigate and the interface feels outdated to me. I usually prefer using huddles instead of the regular video call option.

Keeps relevant information in the right place

Pros

Slack really shines when it comes to searchable conversations and message organization. Being able to set up separate channels for different teams or topics keeps the right people and relevant information in the right place, instead of everything getting buried in one long communication thread. That setup makes it much less likely for important updates to get lost. On the personal side, the option to mute or star channels depending on how often I want to check them is also very useful. Overall, it feels extremely user-friendly.

Cons

Built-in video calling feature is missing. A lot of other platforms already include that so needing to use one tool for messaging and another for video meetings can be a bit inconvenient.

Good for team bonding

Pros

Working in it feels a lot like being in the same room with coworkers. We can message internally in real time, set up separate channels for different departments, shared interests and team bonding and it keeps everything organized. It's very accessible, simple to navigate and does a really good job of making remote work feel a lot less distant.

Cons

Keeping up with threads can be tricky especially when someone replies to an older conversation. The scroll bar has a "Thread" feature that helps track those replies but it can start to feel overwhelming when several comments come in at the same time. It mostly comes down to getting used to how it works.

Backbone of our remote operations

Pros

It has become the backbone of how our remote team works. We use it for just about everything, time tracking, instant messaging, automation and a lot more. It's so versatile that it's hard to imagine how we managed before bringing it into our workflow.

Cons

I'd want a few built-in features so we wouldn't have to rely on app integrations or webhooks as much. For example, it would be really useful if itbot could respond in private chats.
