Perplexity Use Cases
Based on our analysis of Perplexity's features, capabilities, and marketing positioning, we have identified its real-world use cases:
Conducting Marketing And Competitive Research
For strategy and marketing teams that are exploring a new market, comparing competitors, customer trends, and current industry developments across multiple sources can be difficult. This is especially true when manually correcting and cross-checking information to build an updated market view. Through Perplexity’s Deep Research, multi-step searches across various sources can be conducted, and information can be synthesized into a structured report with citations. This allows teams to investigate market segments and prepare analysis for planning or stakeholder discussions.
Verifying Information For Research And Content
Verifying statistics, claims, or recent developments before including them in a report or published piece is a necessity that content, research, or communications teams may need to uphold. Searching through individual webpages to trace each claim is time-consuming. Perplexity’s cited answers give responses based on real-time information and link them back to the original sources. This helps reviewers verify information.
Preparing Evidence-Based Product Decisions
Product teams evaluating a new feature may need to combine customer feedback, competitive intelligence, market information, and existing product documentation before writing a recommendation or PRD. Perplexity’s Deep Research and enterprise research capabilities tackle this by synthesizing inputs from user research, feedback, competitive intelligence, and market data into cited product research. Meanwhile, product workflows can turn those findings into PRDs and strategy documents. As a result, product managers can use the same research workflows to investigate feature areas and prepare decision-making documents, rather than manually consolidating each source.
Searching Internal Company Information And Knowledge Alongside The Web
Enterprise teams usually rely on both internal and external information to answer questions. To search internal repositories separately from the web, employees must first locate company documents and then conduct research in another workflow. This can be solved through Perplexity’s Internal Knowledge Search and file connectors, through which users can access organizational files and web sources. At the same time, integrated applications can provide access to company information from selected tools. This combines both company and web sources to create a central hub of information.
Building Recurring Research And Monitoring Workflows
Finance, marketing, or research professionals may need to monitor changing information such as market developments, news, competitors, or financial topics rather than simply researching the same subject manually. With Perplexity’s Tasks and Computer Scheduling Capabilities, recurring work can be run in the background, such as monitoring, reports, alerts, and briefings. This allows users to adjust recurring research workflows to gather updated information on a schedule rather than repeatedly initiating the same search themselves.
Is Perplexity Right For You?
Perplexity is a good fit for professionals and teams that frequently conduct research and need recent information backed by citations. Its Search and Deep Research capabilities make it a valuable asset for finance, legal, consulting, marketing, and healthcare teams. It does this by quickly gathering information from internal and external sources, bringing all company research into the same workflow.
For teams looking to automate and repeat research, features such as Computer and Tasks can handle multi-step research and recurring monitoring workflows. Simultaneously, the API platform supports organizations that want to incorporate content extraction, real-time search, and semantic search into their own applications.
While organizations may weigh the costs of advanced research usage, administration, integrations, and support as not worth it, Perplexity still stands as a viable option due to its deep internal knowledge and AI-assisted automation features. The platform is also SOC 2 Certified.

Perplexity Features
AI-Powered Web And File Search
Perplexity’s Search functionality uses more than 20 models to align each query with the relevant model for specific tasks. Every claim gets cited so that teams do not have to spend time verifying claims. It also allows users to search across the open web, internal files, and connected apps – all on a single interface. This unifies external and internal information to provide a single source of truth.
Computer-Based Task Automation
This feature acts as a digital worker that can execute multi-step tasks across research, browsing, coding, and connected tools. It runs workflows in the background, automates browser actions, and coordinates subagents to handle complex tasks without requiring manual execution at each step. This function also allows users to create production-ready apps, websites, reports, and other outputs, allowing teams to move from a natural-language request to a completed deliverable.
AI-Powered Browser Assistant
Comet is an AI-powered browser that can directly handle tasks while you browse. This includes researching information across multiple sources while drafting emails aligned with your schedule. It can also create study plans, build websites, and assist with online shopping. With this, routine browser-based tasks can be delegated instead of being completed manually.
Agent API Platform
The API platform provides developers with Search-API access to real-time web results, including ranked results, domain filtering, multi-query search, and content extraction. The Agent API combines web search, URL fetching, and reasoning controls to build agentic workflows across supported models. Embeddings can also convert internal documents and knowledge bases into vector representations for RAG and semantic search applications.

“Terrible support and lost access”
Pros
Being able to switch models in the middle of a chat is useful and the app is quick when it comes to answering questions or helping with research. Overall it works fairly well when you just need fast information.
Cons
The customer support is unbelievably bad. I joined a friend's enterprise plan for a couple of months to test it and after leaving, all of my chats and spaces vanished like I was starting over with a brand-new account. On top of that, my personal Pro account stopped working too even though I still have around 7 months left on the subscription. I contacted enterprise support and only got an automated chatbot reply with generic steps to follow which I did and then nothing for 2 weeks. I followed up and got the same bot response saying someone would reply when possible, followed by more silence. After another week, I reached out to their regular support team, explained everything and once again the AI told me it had escalated the issue and that I'd hear back within 2 days. It has now been more than a week since then. At first I wondered whether this was just my case but after looking online, it's clear their support really is this bad and plenty of other people have had the same experience. Long story short, this is easily the worst customer support I've dealt with in a very long time. If this were my company, I'd be embarrassed. At this point I'm done using Perplexity which is disappointing because I had been looking forward to trying the new computer feature but I'll be using Manus instead.

“Helpful for everyday tasks”
Pros
Whenever I need to switch off my brain and handle really routine tasks, this is nice to use. With just a bit of guidance, it does the job really well.
Cons
The nonstop censorship makes it feel as if chats that are supposed to be private might not actually be private. That part is pretty unsettling and honestly a little scary.

“useful web research companion”
Pros
Using Perplexity Pro has been really useful for both studying and work. It can search the web, cite sources and explain things in simple language which saves me from jumping between a bunch of tabs. I also appreciate being able to upload files and get summaries or even code from them.
Cons
At times the answers sound very confident but still contain small mistakes so I end up checking the source links myself anyway. The platform also has a lot of modes and settings which took some time to understand. And after using the Pro version, the free version now feels pretty limited.
