My experience with Ensemble

Pros

We use it every day for our usual development, monitoring and support work. It helps us handle HL7 messaging for healthcare integration and we mainly use Intersystems IRIS components like Studio, Management Portal, DTLs and Object Scripting. It's part of our regular workflow and honestly, it just works well for what we need.

Cons

I think IRIS has pretty much all the key components built in which is great. But there's one thing that bugs me and we still can't handle document conversions like RTF file content in base64 directly in IRIS. For that, we've got to rely on third-party tools and that's kind of problem.

Everything you need in one place

Pros

What I really like is how easy it is to connect and process tons of data on a single platform. I can work with files, FTP, TCP, REST, and all kinds of stuff to bring data in and out. It even supports other languages when sending info to different platforms. Any issues we've had with HL7 are taken care of here. I've been able to build a complete integration setup in just a few weeks which is awesome because it cuts down development time by a lot.

Cons

It honestly takes quite time to get used to the language and figure out how everything works. There are a lot of methods and concepts to learn, so yeah it's difficult to use.

Boosts productivity like a pro

Pros

What really boosts my productivity is how tightly everything's connected like the Cache database, the Ensemble integration server and the development tools. When I use the graphical BPM tools, I can work super fast. The web interface is also a big plus and it looks great and makes it really easy to manage everything from development to production, including deployments, monitoring and archiving data. It's all just smooth and efficient.

Cons

The IDE used to only work on Windows which was super limiting. But since 2016, that's changed and now there's an Eclipse plugin, so I can use it anywhere Java runs. That's been a big improvement and makes things a lot more flexible.
