Coda Software: The Multi-User Document Bringing Data and Teams Together

What is Coda Software?

Overview

Coda is a cloud-based, multi-user new doc software allowing users to plan, organize, and create documents as a team or individually. With Coda, users can create, edit, and view both documents and spreadsheets, as well as streamline processes related to product launches, project management, and app development.

What is Coda Best For?

Coda is best known for being highly customizable to fit the needs of any business department and job title. It acts as an all-in-one tool where siloed data is aggregated and populated in real-time on one document so different teams can collaborate easily.

The user interface looks like a regular Word or Google document while the functionalities work like an engaging app for easier collaboration.

Coda's customizable templates allow users to create personalized documents for meetings, brainstorming sessions, customer or client feedback, to-do lists, and marketplace research. Once installed, project managers can use built-in templates to track objectives and key results (OKRs) to streamline  project completion and management.

As teams grow or change, you can use Coda’s no-code building blocks to upgrade your document into different functions, such as to-do lists, meeting notes, tasks and timelines, and strategic directions.

Coda Pricing

Coda offers a free plan which offers basic access to editors, doc makers, and viewers. Additional paid plans with annual and monthly subscriptions include pro and team plans, providing unlimited editors and viewers starting at $10 and $30 a month per doc maker respectively. A fourth pricing option for enterprises offers customized pricing with details on request, and is designed for both pro and team collaboration. Reach out to our solutions specialist to learn more about pricing.

Coda Integrations

Coda’s software supports integration with third-party applications including Slack, Gmail, Jira, Figma, Shopify, GitHub, Dropbox, Google Drive, and Zapier. Mobile apps for iOS and Android devices are also available.

How does Coda Work?

Users can get started with Coda by signing in with their organization’s emails or their personal accounts, after which they will gain access to a variety of template collections for teams in project management, sales and digital marketing, HR, and event planning. Templates are also available for different goals and purposes, such as running effective meetings and carrying out user research.

For those just starting out, Coda provides a range of learning resources for you to get started with the platform’s basic features, integrations, and templates.

Who is Coda for?

The software is mainly designed in a way that allows you to consolidate Coda’s tools, optimize workflows, and scale processes under one integrated platform. Typical customers of Coda include:

  • Small businesses

  • Medium-sized businesses

  • Large enterprises

  • Freelancers

Coda Software Features

  1. Blending Tables and Text Together

When first starting Coda, users begin with a simple document page that blends both tables and text together, allowing you to build a customized workspace for your team to manage all projects.

  1. A Rich Template Gallery

The variety of templates available on Coda is perfect for easily getting started with the platform. You can find templates for any business department, from marketing to project management and HR and event planning.

  1. Powering Up your Document with Coda Packs

Packs is Coda’s version of integrations or plug-ins. This allows you to connect your doc with apps you already use (such as Slack and Shopify) so you can pull live data in or push updates out automatically. Coda Packs are building blocks to extend how your document looks, works, and integrates.

  1. Drag-and-drop Capabilities

Coda's drag-and-drop features assist project managers in creating surveys or polls to improve workflows and approval processes. This solution also offers features such as document sharing, hidden sections, private folders, single sign-on (SSO), revision history, and role-based access.

Is Coda Right for Me?

Coda is best for small to large-sized business owners, as well as freelancers and large enterprises.

Many users have recommended Coda for its flexibility, integrations, and powerful table functionality, as well as its ability to build a Wiki and share detailed reports with a simple user experience. Users also found the software easy to hand off, as it behaves similarly to Google Docs or Sheets.

Users have found Coda's interface and navigation to be very user-friendly, as Coda allows for multiple levels of hierarchy in folders to create a 'chapter' heading-like feel for the document.

However, some users reported limitations in Coda’s API, causing issues for users when integrating docs into other apps through Zapier. Once docs get too large (i.e., too many rows and elements), the API starts failing.

Impressive Flexibility of Coda

May 2023

BillLaurel

Computer Software

Pros:
Codas adaptability and diverse feature set left a strong impression on me, offering an efficient way to manage projects.
Cons:
Nevertheless, Coda can be unreliable and sluggish when handling extensive projects, and theres room for enhancement in terms of features and usability.

Coda: A Superior Choice for Team Coordination

April 2023

Mathew

Newspapers

Pros:
The user-friendly interface of Coda sets it apart, and I find it to be a step ahead of its competitor Notion in various aspects.
Cons:
However, working with spreadsheet imports and exports can be a bit cumbersome.

Coda has revolutionized the way we manage our documents.

Consulting

Pros:
We switched to Coda for managing all of our internal documents and, I must say, its been a game-changer for us. We can easily keep track of our projects, documents, and data in one place and even create custom templates that help streamline our workflow. Moreover, the no-code building blocks make it much easier for us to customize our documents without needing to understand coding.
Cons:
We havent really encountered any major cons with Coda. We did experience some performance issues when we first started using the software, but these were taken care of quickly by their customer support team. Other than that, Coda has been a great platform for us, and our document need

A great platform for collaborative work!

March 2023

Dave S.

Creative services

Pros:
Codas collaborative features have been incredibly helpful for our team. We can easily collaborate on documents and track changes in real time, which is great when working with clients or other teams. Plus, Codas integration with a variety of third-party tools has been invaluable in streamlining our workflow. Our search for a good platform to support our creative needs ended when we found Coda.
Cons:
Apart from the pricing, we found that the software sometimes lags when loading larger documents, which can be annoying. This problem was pronounced with files that contained more than 10 pages. Coda needs to address this issue to ensure that their users have a smooth experience.

Streamlining Project Information

March 2023

Antonio

Research

Pros:
When working on projects with a lot of information that needs to be centralized, Coda makes the task much easier. Its not at all complicated for project members to learn Coda and have all the information in one place.
Cons:
Currently, it can be a bit challenging to centralize everything properly when multiple people are editing their parts using office documents. However, this issue can be solved through other means.

Good overall experience just not with its pricing.

Marketing and advertising

Pros:
It goes without saying that Coda allows me to create documents that are more organized and accessible. I dont have to worry about switching between multiple apps anymore either as Coda provides an all-in-one solution for my document needs. For example, I had a project which required me to perform a lot of market research. With Coda, I was able to quickly create a document that contained all the data I needed in an easy-to-read format and then share it with my teammates.
Cons:
Codas pricing can be quite expensive for small businesses and freelancers, especially when compared to other alternatives. I think they should consider offering flexible pricing options that better suit the needs of their users.

Powerful and flexible features for document management

February 2023

Andrei B

Financial Services

Pros:
We have switched entirely to Coda for document management. The interface is very sleek and works nicely. Also, the features are flexible and make handling our complex internal processes easy. It also has excellent automation features with which we have set Coda to send out messages to Slack so that everybody can stay up-to-date.
Cons:
There are some limitations to Coda. I am unable to retrieve comments in automated tasks and theres simply no way that the program can remind me that there are no comments present at the moment. Using and mastering Coda also means you should have an understanding of basic data structures.

Impressive features but too expensive

February 2023

Carmen H

Marketing and Advertising

Pros:
There are so many powerful features that make Coda a hard-to-beat package overall. For example, the templates (beautifully pre-made), useful buttons, and tables make access to the advanced features easy for everyone. The UI is neat and the navigation is intuitive.
Cons:
It is very expensive. And the cost only builds up once you consider getting a Docmaker subscription for all your employees.

Coda is a great all-in-one tool.

January 2023

Software Development

Pros:
Weve been using Coda for over a year now and its been great for streamlining our development process. We can easily create documents from scratch and even customize them with integrations and packs. Moreover, its intuitive user experience makes it easy to use for our team members.
Cons:
The only problem we faced with the software was when it came to transferring data from one document to another. This was a bit tricky as it required some manual work, however, Codas customer support team helped us out with this issue.

Simplifies managing data

January 2023

Gretchen T

Computer Software

Pros:
Coda is an amazing platform if your main goal is data management. I have been using the software for more than a year and so far have combined all my companys databases, spreadsheets, and other documents in one place without having to write code for it. I am not leaving Coda anytime soon!
Cons:
Mastering Coda means learning its syntax, which was a bit difficult even for someone like me with a technical background. However, it is worth the effort since the formula language eventually eliminates the need to write any sort of code in the long run.

Information Technology and Services

Pros:
Codas flexibility and gentle learning curve make it an ideal choice. Its ability to combine text, tables, images, and more on a single page is a time-saving feature.
Cons:
Some complex table aspects require basic coding knowledge, but Codas user community and resources help alleviate this.

The best thing ever in the data management space

January 2023

Colm T

Consumer Goods

Pros:
Coda seamlessly combines spreadsheets and other documents of a company, which ultimately fills the data management gaps you might be facing. Our data has been restructured as a spreadsheet. On top of that, theres an excellent formula-based language with web publishing features that combines everything you need in one complete package!
Cons:
The only thing I can say is that the formula language provided in Coda is not as intuitive as it is in Excel. So, theres a somewhat steep learning curve but ultimately worth your time.

Pros:
Cons:
Some of the more complex aspects of working with tables may require basic coding knowledge. However, Codas large user community, webinars, and video tutorials help make these aspects easily understandable.

Its great to keep everyone invested in a project.

December 2022

Frank K.

Information technology and services

Pros:
For me, the primary selling point is the customization. Coda is my go-to project management tool. Workflows are so easy and quick to set up. Coda offers the ability to convert those pages directly into web pages, and the templates can be edited live, which is another plus.
Cons:
The free version was basically useless; I had to get the paid version to extract any useful work from Coda. However, it is well worth the investment. Also, youll need a very technical team to get it up and running.

It is without a doubt the future of documentation because of its automation capabilities!

December 2022

Marie V.

Private Equity

Pros:
Coda has been amazing at letting us create automated documents tailored to our needs. We can configure data and time-based Coda triggers to send email and Slack notifications when necessary. It timely notifies us of approaching deadlines and informs everyone of their unfinished action items. It’s a game changer!
Cons:
It has a very complicated onboarding process. I initially had doubts about whether my reports were good and if I was utilizing all the available features or not. It really took time to get comfortable with
