Key Takeaways

Generated from the text of customer reviews

Navan is a travel and expense management platform for accounting teams, finance staff, and business travelers. It supports organizations across professional services, retail, healthcare, finance, and other sectors. Its clear interface and connected workflows often come up in reviews as favorable points; however, some users note limited travel options and slow support. The recent update includes the launch of Model Context Protocol (MCP) for connecting Navan with other AI tools.

Our Verdict

Navan might be a suitable option for mid-sized and large organizations who manage regular business travel and expenses. It helps companies facilitate coordinated workflows for travelers, finance staff, and accounting teams. The free plan suits smaller teams, but larger businesses may better get along with its higher custom pricing and potential extra costs. We recommend it for organizations with consistent travel volume and structured expense processes.

Navan Use Cases

Based on user feedback and Navan features, we identified the following situations where it may be a good fit:

  1. Accounting Teams Managing Travel And Expense Workflows

For accounting teams that want travel and expense activity handled within the same system, Navan connects transaction details and expense workflows. This connected approach for review and reconciliation reduces the need to manage these processes separately. User reviews also highlight the efficiency and time savings from managing corporate travel and expenses in one application.

  1. Employees Submitting And Tracking Expenses

Navan fits employees who need to submit business expenses and keep track of reimbursement activity. Users can upload expenses through the application and view payment status. This gives them clearer visibility when follow-up may be needed. Reviewers point out swiftness and ease for expense submission and the ability to see when an expense has been paid.

  1. Executive Assistants Coordinating Leadership Travel

Executive assistants often choose Navan to regularly arrange trips for company leaders. Its delegated booking keeps traveler details, loyalty information, and preferences available while assistants plan trips on someone else’s behalf. User feedback also sheds light on the convenience and user-friendly approach in this regard.

  1. HR Teams Maintaining Visibility Into Employee Travel

Navan can support HR teams that need visibility into employee travel while staff administrate their own work bookings. This way, traveler activity becomes accessible as trips are arranged, and teams have a clearer view of where employees are traveling. Reviewers particularly value this capability for the visibility it provides from a workforce safety perspective.

Is Navan Right For You?

Navan Features

Real-Time Financial Intelligence

Navan provides live dashboards and custom reporting for tracking spend across departments and expense categories. Accounting teams can review current trends and use the available expense data to support forecasting and budgeting. This gives users a clearer view of how a company’s spending changes over time.

See How It Works
Pre-Code Transactions

The platform enriches each payment with details such as legal entity, subsidiary, region, department, cost center, and GL code. This information syncs with the company’s accounting system. Accounting teams can therefore prepare transactions for reconciliation with more complete coding data already attached.

See How It Works
Automated Invoices And Receipts

The software automatically uploads invoices and receipts for flights, hotels, and everyday transactions. It matches each supporting document with the related payment and checks whether the expense falls within policy. This helps accounting teams prepare ERP-ready records without linking every document manually.

See How It Works
Proactive Policies

Navan allows teams to set transparent spend policies before employees make purchases. Policies can be customized according to travel status, employee role, expense type, and other conditions. Applying these controls earlier in the spending process can help organizations prevent overspending and focus reviews on exceptions.

See How It Works
Itinerary Syncing

The platform automatically sends itinerary emails and calendar invitations when travelers make new bookings or when existing plans change. These updates keep current trip information available in travelers’ inboxes and calendars. Teams can therefore communicate booking changes without preparing and sending every notification manually.

Makes booking travel quite simple

Pros

The thing I enjoy most is the interface as it is simple, smooth and takes the stress out of booking travel or hotels. Plus I like the deals and perks you can earn especially when business trips turn into rewards for the next one.

Cons

Well the only part that I did not like about it is when booking trips for more than one person. As you have to fill in traveler details just to search hotels which feels unnecessary. It would be way easier if we could browse options for multiple people first.
