What Is Predictive Index?
Predictive Index is a workforce intelligence and behavioral assessment platform. It helps turn assessment data into decisions that follow a person through hiring, team formation, and ongoing performance conversations. The platform is organized into four connected tools: PI Hire, PI Inspire, PI Design, and PI Diagnose. Each one handles a different stage of the talent lifecycle, from candidate assessment to team structuring and engagement tracking.
What ties them together is a shared data set. A hiring decision made through PI Hire carries forward into the coaching guidance a manager sees inside PI Inspire, rather than starting over in a separate system. That continuity is what separates Predictive Index from tools that assess candidates once and stop tracking them after the hire is made.
What Is Predictive Index Best For?
Predictive Index's core differentiator is its ‘Reference Profile’ system. It is built for HR leaders who need to predict how people will work together and not just assess them individually. It sorts every candidate or employee into one of 17 named behavioral patterns, built from four workplace drives: Dominance, Extraversion, Patience, and Formality. Managers can use these profiles to spot friction points before pairing people on a team.
How Much Does Predictive Index Cost?
Predictive Index pricing starts at $10,000/year. This price is for its base plan, called Talent. It covers unlimited behavioral assessments, candidate-to-job match scoring, interview guides per candidate, personalized coaching for every employee, and manager-employee relationship insights.
The vendor also offers the following plans at custom pricing:
- Performance
- Engagement
On top of the base price, you can expect the following additional costs:
- Implementation And Setup: $1,000–$5,000 one-time for account configuration, assessment setup, user provisioning, and rollout planning
- Third-Party Integrations: $1,000–$5,000+ per integration when connecting PI with an ATS, HRIS, or other systems that require configuration and testing
- Consulting And Talent Optimization Services: $2,000–$10,000+ per engagement for help with assessment data, talent strategies, or broader implementation projects
- Training And Workshops: $1,000–$8,000+ per session for instructor-led sessions aimed at managers, HR teams, or leadership groups
- Data Migration And Custom Configuration: $1,000–$5,000+ when organizations need to move existing data or tailor workflows and organizational structures
Disclaimer: The pricing is subject to change.

Predictive Index Use Cases
Based on our review of user feedback and Predictive Index features, here are the scenarios where this software is a strong fit:
HR Leaders Building New Teams And Predicting How Members Will Work Together
Putting together a new team from scratch means matching people who complement each other. Predictive Index's PI Design tool is built for this. It uses behavioral data collected during assessment to flag likely friction points before a team is finalized. The comparison can help make group strengths and weaknesses visible early. Teams forming from the ground up can benefit the most from it.
HR Teams Monitoring Engagement Across Distributed Workforces
PI Diagnose gives HR teams a structured way to examine employee engagement across four measurable drivers. Organizations can use these insights to identify where engagement may be weakening rather than relying solely on manager observations or exit interviews. This is particularly useful for companies with employees spread across multiple locations or shifts, where signs of disengagement can be harder for managers to spot.
Recruiting Managing Multiple Job Postings For Behavioral Fit
Reviewing every job advertisement for behavioral alignment becomes difficult when several roles are open at once. Predictive Index's Job Ad Optimizer checks postings against the Job Target set for that role. It flags language that could work against the fit hiring teams are looking for. This scenario suits companies hiring across several open roles at once, where reviewing every posting by hand for behavioral alignment is not realistic.
First-Time Managers Promoted For Technical Skill Needing Behavioral Context For Direct Reports
Managers can use PI Inspire to understand the behavioral preferences of their direct reports and get practical coaching prompts based on that information. This is particularly useful for first-time managers who were promoted for technical expertise but have limited people-management experience. They can apply the context during everyday coaching without having to interpret raw assessment scores.
Leadership Teams Aligning Department Objectives During Company-Wide Strategy Resets
Department heads often set goals on their own, and those goals do not always add up to one coherent company direction. Predictive Index's Talent Strategy tools connect behavioral data from across departments to the company's stated objectives. This way, leadership works from one shared reference point instead of several conflicting ones. Organizations undergoing a broader strategic reset are more likely to benefit than those looking to address the needs of a single team.
Is Predictive Index Right For You?
Predictive Index runs on infrastructure built for a range of company sizes. It can work for single-location teams assessing a handful of new hires to enterprise groups running assessments across dozens of departments.
On the security side, the platform holds SOC 2 Type II accreditation and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its information security management system. It has certified compliance with the EU-US and Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework for handling personal data collected outside the United States. Well-known organizations such as Nissan, Citizens Bank, Subway, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Omni Hotels have used the platform.
Regulatory scrutiny of assessment-based hiring tools has increased, with NYC Local Law 144 and Colorado’s SB 24-205, effective June 30, 2026. It requires independent bias audits for automated tools used in hiring decisions. Predictive Index publishes documentation on how its Behavioral and Cognitive Assessments were validated against the EEOC Uniform Guidelines. The assessments were also evaluated against testing standards from the American Psychological Association and Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. The company provides additional guidance on monitoring for adverse impact.
While the audit obligation remains with the employer, this documented validation can give organizations a starting point for their compliance review rather than requiring them to build the supporting evidence from scratch.

Predictive Index Features
Engagement Diagnosis
This feature runs anonymous pulse surveys and sorts the results into four measurable drivers: Job, Manager, Organization, and People. Each driver gets its own score, so a team's engagement problem shows up as a specific weak point rather than one blended number. Managers receive a written action plan built around whichever driver scored lowest.
Talent Strategy
The platform helps organizations map a team's current behavioral makeup against the stated objectives, and then flags where the two are misaligned. It draws on the same behavioral data collected during hiring, so the strategy work doesn't require gathering a separate data set. Leadership teams use the resulting map to decide where a team needs a different mix of people rather than just more headcount.
Meeting Management
Meeting Management, part of PI Perform, opens each meeting inside a shared digital workspace where participants add discussion topics, share files, and take notes in one place. Recurring meetings pull forward unresolved topics automatically, so a team doesn't start from a blank agenda every time. Once a meeting ends, action items convert into tracked tasks assigned to specific people.
Behavioral Assessment
The Behavioral Assessment feature presents two questions, both built from the same shared list of adjectives. One asks how a person is expected to behave at work and the other asks how they'd describe themselves. Most people finish in about six minutes, since there's no clock and no wrong answer to second-guess. The pattern of adjectives selected across both questions produces an individual's Reference Profile.
Job Ad Optimizer
It helps scan a pasted job description using natural language processing, then flags specific words or phrases that lean toward behaviors outside the role's Job Target. A word like ‘independent’ in a posting built around a highly collaborative Job Target would get flagged, along with a suggested replacement. HR teams get line-level recommendations back instead of a generic writing checklist.

“Speedy and Spot-On”
Pros
It only takes a few minutes for end users to take tests. It shows how different behavioral profiles interact with each other and highlights the strengths and weaknesses of entire groups.
Cons
Honestly, it's hard for me to come up with something to criticize. The new talent optimization portal was in beta mode when I was using it and it had a way to go but it's a great vision and I know they'll get that right as well.
